E49: Talking About NH's Question 2
from The Steve Marchand Podcast Hosted by Steve Marchand
On Wednesday, October 7th, Nicole Bump and Steve did a Substack Live about a rare (for New Hampshire) ballot question appearing this November 3rd across the state: "Question 2", which would restrict local school tax spending increases to inflation + growth to the property tax base. You can read all about it at Steve's Substack, www.SteveMarchand.com. The NHGOP passed this into law this summer, and every school district will have to get at least 60% of people who vote on it to say "Yes" in order for it to become law in their district for the next two years. Then in 2028, all school districts will be asked the same question for the following two years. The GOP sees this as a turnout booster in a year where Democrats appear to enjoy an enthusiasm gap advantage.Opponents have struggled to adopt a coordinated response, but in the last few weeks, that has rapidly changed. Steve and Nicole took time to go over the law, it's potential consequences if enacted by many school districts, and how opponents should communicate about their opposition.#nhpolitics
