Eagles Defense Takes the Reins | Spokane News

Eastern Washington’s defense is poised to steal the spotlight this season, flipping the script from years of offensive reliance. After a disappointing 5-win campaign marred by a weak offense, the Eagles are now built on veteran grit and aggressive strategy, led by standout safety McKel Broussard who calls the unit “ten times better.” With key returnees like Jaylon Jenkins and seasoned linemen anchoring the trenches, the team’s identity has shifted — they’re built to stop opponents, not just score. New defensive coordinator Zach Bruce is deploying a pressure-heavy scheme designed to dismantle Northern Arizona’s passing game, while Broussard craves gritty, physical battles over blowout wins. This isn’t just a new look — it’s a full transformation, with the Eagles ready to prove their strength lies in stopping the clock, not scoring past it.
