“New Amsterdam,” tells a captivating and compelling story of ambition, exploration, and adventure in the Dutch Colony of New Netherland.*Episode 5 - Line in the Sand*New Netherland's West India Company Director-General Pieter Stuyvesant was going through some things. After arriving in New Amsterdam, Stuyvesant went to work to straighten out the failing Dutch colony, and tried to undo the damage the previous Company Directors had done. But a group of residents of New Netherland were fed up with the Company's incompetent and dictatorial rulers and demanded a say in the Colony's government. The Council of Nine Men, who'd declared independence from Stuyvesant's government, sent delegates to the Dutch Republic to discuss the mismanagement of the Colony with the Republic's Government, the States General.
