Easier said than done to protect our hearts

On Saturday we were reminded to guard our hearts, in not receiving negative words. One of the verses was "And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6). The next day I was sent a barrage of accusations from a friend. My first reaction was to be offended and angry but thank God we had Saturday's message to remind me to protect my heart as otherwise I could so easily have retaliated with stinging and accusatory words. The rest of that chapter 4 of Apostle Paul's letter to the church in Philippi gives us further salient advice on how to protect our hearts - to rejoice, be thankful, to be gentle and to focus on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. We need to be intentional with this mindset in order to protect our hearts. Easier said than done but thank God, we can ask Him to give us His strength and comfort.
