Easter 2023 — Easter Sunday | April 2023

This Resurrection Sunday message asks two questions: what does Easter mean, and how does it work. The answer turns on identity. Drawing on the seven I am sayings in John, from the bread of life to the resurrection and the way, the truth, and the life, the message argues that Jesus claimed to be God, a claim the first-century world heard echoing the voice from the burning bush. Easter means Jesus is who he said he was, holds the power he claimed, and keeps every promise he made. The human problem is sin, missing the mark God intends, which separates us from him and which no effort, heritage, sincerity, comparison, or moral arithmetic can resolve. The single prerequisite Scripture names is belief in the gospel. The account of the woman caught in adultery anchors the application. The only sinless one present declined to throw a stone, and his words, neither do I condemn you , point to forgiveness, relationship, and a future secured by the empty tomb.
