Eastern Conference Finals Update May 19th, 2026

Game 1 of the 2026 Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden in New York City between the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks was a breeze for Cleveland as they held a twenty-two-point lead until the middle of the fourth quarter. With over seven minutes left in the game, the Knicks staged a comeback led by guard Jalen Brunson that sent the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Brunson alongside Landry Shamet, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby would propel the Knicks to a 115 to 104 win. For New York, Jalen Brunson finished with 38 points, Mikal Bridges scored 18 points, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Karl Anthony Towns all scored 13 points and Landry Shamet came off the bench to score nine points. As for the Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell was the leading scorer with 29 points. A tough shooting night for guard James Harden as he scored 15 points while shooting only five for 16 from the field. Forward Evan Mobley had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Sam Merrill finished with 12 points and Dean Wade and Jarrett Allen both scored 10 points. New York leads the series one game to nothing. After five seasons as head coach, Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks have mutually agreed to part ways. Kidd coached the Mavericks to an NBA Finals appearance in 2024 and a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2022. In Kidd’s last two seasons as head coach, the Mavericks missed the playoffs. Last season, he signed a contract extension to stay with Dallas. Kidd had four years and $40 million dollars left on his contract. The New Orleans Pelicans have hired Jamahl Mosley as their new head coach. During his five seasons as the head coach of the Orlando Magic, Mosley coached the team to three playoff appearances. This season, Mosley’s last playoff appearance with the Magic was being eliminated in the first round of a seven-game playoff series to the Detroit Pistons.
