Standing at the fore of each was a guardian animal, offering guidance through the trials of the unknown path that lay before the sage. A wolf offered its companionship and ferocity, a crow its intelligence and vision, a deer its alertness and grace, and a fox its elusiveness and cunning. Yet only one could lead the sage through all that lay beyond, and three paths would be left behind in the shadow of the great mountains that loomed before him. Thus it was that the sage tapped into the power of his own greatest strength, the INTUITION that had guided him for all of his life, and that would do so for all that remained to come.
