Educate. Activate. Engage.

from Nadine@9

Listen in as I talk with Michael Compton and Amy Castro of Act for Missouri, a grassroots organization focused on one mission: Educate. Activate. Engage.Together, we break down what Missouri voters are being asked to consider with HJR 173 & 174—a proposed constitutional amendment framed as a path to eliminating the state income tax.But as we dig into the details… the reality is far less clear. What We Talk AboutHere’s what you need to know before you vote:* This is a framework—not a plan. The proposal does not eliminate the income tax. Instead, it gives future legislatures the ability to attempt changes under a broad, undefined structure.* “Right to try” isn’t a guarantee. One of the most telling moments? Lawmakers describing this as giving themselves the “right to try.”Not a roadmap. Not a timeline. Just permission.* Any real change would take years.Even in the best-case scenario, Missourians wouldn’t see meaningful income tax relief anytime soon. This would be a long, gradual process—if it happens at all.* No plan to cut spending. There is no serious conversation about cutting the budget.* “Trust us” isn’t a strategy.Voters are being asked to approve a constitutional amendment based largely on confidence in future decisions—without specifics, safeguards, or accountability. Why This MattersAmending the Constitution is a big deal. It should come with clarity, transparency, and a clearly defined path forward. This proposal raises an important question:Are we voting on real change—or just the idea of change?Learn More / Read the BillYou can read the full text of the proposal here:👉 HJR173/174About Act for MissouriAct for Missouri is committed to helping Missourians stay informed and engaged in the legislative process—encouraging everyday citizens to take an active role in shaping their state’s future. You can listen to my last interview with them to hear more of their backstory!Listen, Share, EngageIf this episode helped clarify something for you, share it with someone who’s still trying to make sense of what’s on the ballot.Because informed voters make better decisions. And blind trust shouldn’t be the standard.Don’t miss out!Make sure to purchase your raffle tickets for your chance to win the beautiful quilt made by our caller, Brenda! 1/$10 or 3/$20. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of The Song Against Songs by G. K. Chesterton. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) HealthCall LIVE WOWO / Federated Media HealthCall LIVE with Lee Kelso is a summary of the weeks most interesting and useful health and medical news.
