The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in both a health and an economic crisis across the globe. South Africa, like many other countries, has not been spared. Up to now many studies have been conducted on the impact of lockdowns, as a short-term measure to slow down the infection, on the economy in general, but none has focused on the impact on township economies. In view of this, the University of South Africa - Unisa Press, in partnership with Township Entrepreneurs Alliance (TEA), is undertaking a study to investigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on township economies. The study is aimed at both formal and informal businesses and entrepreneurs and will serve to inform policy makers and government of the extent of the economic impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on township economies.
