In the dead of night as people sleep, that is when the spirits creep. As the bell tolls three dark things take power, we like to call it the Supernatural Hour. And now. Hey, welcome to the Supernatural Hour Podcast.
I am your host, Rathan. This is Emmett. And I'm Chad. And we are glad to be here today.
So this is, you know what? Let's do business first. Okay. The business is brought to you by Castle Photo Art.
Go to Castle Photo Castel for your photo needs. You can access his website. Your website at www.advancedparanormal.com, right on the main page at the bottom is a link for many of our friends of Advanced Paranormal. Go check out the people that support us.
Just a little plug for Castle. He's my brother. So therefore, one of my first Facebook friends. And he posts little snippets of shoots that he's done.
And he's done a lot recently with graduations and weddings because it's getting warm and people like those spring weddings with the flowers. And I have to tell you, he is my brother. I used to beat him up when he was little. But not anymore.
He'd kick my butt now. But he really does a good job. And I'm not just saying that to be nice. But his photos look really good.
One thing about Castle, he either does something 200% or he doesn't do it at all. So if you have him do your pictures, you're going to have a good job done. So for the business, we don't have any business today. We do not.
So we'll go on. We'll be looking for some new venues. Some new venues that we'll be getting up soon. I actually made a few phone calls today.
So we've got some stuff in the works. But we don't have anything planned at this point. Right. Well, and I realize that today is June 1st.
Yeah. It's not June 1st when we're recording this. When you hear it will be June 1st. So as far as you guys are concerned, it's June 1st.
But we are already booking. We've got people calling us already booking for spooky season. I had to print a calendar for October to start keeping track of stuff. I also had to put BYU football games on it because we may have had to not go to some of our season games because we accidentally scheduled stuff on BYU game nights.
So you'll have that. We can't have that. No, so you'll have Happy Raven because she won't miss any football games this year. Okay, cool.
So unless the Notre Dame games are crazy expensive, then we might have to miss that one. We had a residential inbound and we actually just had this one last night. And you did come on this. I'm going to let you start this.
This was amazing. It was a smaller, older home, very nice, small home. In fact, I wouldn't mind retiring to a place just like that. But even just walking in, you could feel something dark and oppressive.
Which was different than the decor and the feel of the home from the way it was upcap and everything. Oh, no. Oh, yeah. It was very cheerful.
But the feel was dark and oppressive. The feel, yeah. I'm really weird because your eyes told you this is a bright, clean, tidy, happy home, but the feels did not match it. Yeah, it was completely counterintuitive and there's even puppies playing and, you know, literally.
Yeah. So, but just, you know, the residents have been experiencing some things and it was funny because it was one of these places where the gear just wasn't doing much good. And it was cool because, Chad, you actually got to investigate because you were the only one that the spirits would communicate with through any of the gear. I'm going to interrupt you right here.
I'm so sorry. But if you've listened to our podcast ever, you know that spirits do not talk to Chad. We actually have to send him out of the room to get spirits to talk to us. So this is an amazing, wondrous thing.
Oftentimes in public investigations, I will stay back and man the home-based area and tell people when to rotate and, you know, the drinks and then, yeah, security too, basically. And run security. Well, and like, unresidential is usually, I mean, sometimes the homeowners will follow us around and listen and ask questions, but sometimes they'll sit in the front room with Chad while Chad answers questions and he'll tell them what we're doing. And, you know, we'll hear him in there, you know, kind of just giving him a narrative of what's going on.
But we went into this bathroom because that's where I felt the heaviest energy. And I set up my Ghost Meter Pro and my Ghost Meter Pro always lights up when we go somewhere. To the point that- Always, always. Yeah.
That's like your favorite gadget. Right. It's like, this is my go-to. I know that no matter what else works or doesn't work, this will work and it would not light up.
And I knew it had, I knew the batteries were working. And here's the weird thing. So it finally lit up and I asked a question that turned immediately off. And it would not light up.
And I thought, I know there was something in the house. I could feel it sitting in the car before I even walked in. Well, and we both felt it in there on the cold walkthrough. Yeah.
So I mean, we knew it was there. And interestingly, I took the SLS through this whole place and the only place I saw anything at all was for a brief second in that bathroom. And as soon as I swung the camera in there, it knew I could see it and it darted back out again. Right.
And that was the only time I caught anything on the SLS or any gear at all. That was it. Right. So I usually wait for my dowsing rods until the very end, right?
Because we like to try to get pictures and try to get evidence through, you know, scientific methods before we jumped to the dowsing rods. I had to go get those almost first to figure out why the spirit wouldn't talk to me. Turns out it didn't like women, which is a shocker because it was a type three, none of them do, but it wouldn't even talk to me. And it said it literally said the only person it would talk to was Chad.
And I'm like, I've never heard that before. And I mean, no disrespect. That's just how it works. You're intimidating to spirits and they don't like to chat with you.
And so Emmett and I left Chad in the bathroom and, you know, we went and wandered out in the backyard and back in the shed, you know, just to see what other fields we got. Chad, do you want to tell us what the type three told you? Yeah. I got because every time Raven came by, it stopped.
I literally I put my foot in the door one time because, you know, he's asking questions and I can see the light going. I literally put one foot to step in because I wanted to see the dial because it's the ghost meter pro. It's easier to look at the dial than the lights because the lights don't always correspond. As soon as I stuck my foot in the bathroom, it would shut off.
Me too. Yeah, I was shooting video and I tried to shoot video of Chad interacting. And as soon as I stick that camera in the door, it stopped nothing. So while they were out doing other investigations and other parts of the yard and the house, it wasn't real talkative with me, but it came on and it answered a number of questions.
I was, you know, I asked and again, yes and no questions and I'm not very good with this because I don't do it very frequently. I thought you asked good questions though. Well, you kicked butt last night. So I identified, you know, are you a demominant of Kennedy or you a spirit here, you know, and we were able to do that and I was able to ascertain and I asked if there was, you know, if it had a minion, if it did it have a type two, the kind of, you know, the kind of ghost that it's manipulating and it said no, but then I determined that there was actually, I said, do you have, is there another type three, another demonic that is your beta, that you're the alpha and he's the beta and he said, yeah.
And that rang true to what had been going on that the homeowners had told us as far as some of the things that they were going on and we were able to do that. And I, you know, I did have some pretty good. Oh, it should not be exactly right. Yeah, I had some pretty good interaction with them at one point in time.
I asked a question, I don't remember what it was, but the response came back as a no and I said, that's a lie, isn't it? It came back. Yes. I mean, I don't get the feels very often, but I just, it was like, no, that was, that was a lie.
There are times when I can be a little bit sensitive, but I would. You tell me what that question was. I'm trying to remember what it was. But it was funny because it's like, no, it was, it was, it was trying to pretend it was a little girl, wasn't it?
That may have been it. Yeah. I think you said this isn't really, you're not really the little girl and that's a lie. Yeah.
I think it was something like that. I think you're right. I think you're right. Yeah.
So anyway, for me, it was an interesting investigation because I probably did more of the actual, I investigate, I go around, take pictures, I do things, but more of the actual interaction in this investigation where there are usually much more qualified people to do it than I am or people that they will respond to better than me. So oftentimes it's Raven or Emma or other members of the team that do a lot of those kinds of interrogations, I guess I'll call it with the, with the Ghost Meter Pro and with other, with other devices. So that was kind of an interesting investigation for me. Yeah.
So, Emma, back to you. Well, it's, it was really cool too, because, you know, we did have such a chance just to, just to reach out and feel a place. And, you know, you and I both found that portal in the bathroom and the mirror situation was crazy. You know, the two in the hallway, you remember we were standing between it, just described that because we both did it and tried it and it was crazy.
We both felt it. So we've talked about this before on this podcast, but when mirrors face each other, it can just create, you know, a vortex and energy portal, you know, people call it like a bubble almost or a field. Yeah. And I can feel those, you know, that's one of the things I look for when I go into a home is are there any mirrors facing each other that could be causing some problem or feeding a problem.
And this house was not very large. And we turned the corner and I saw these two mirrors facing each other and I was like, okay, there's a problem right there. And I walked towards it and I've always been able to feel kind of the energy that they make. But this one was different.
I walked in and I could feel it. It's almost, you know, like you, like if you were to walk into a rubber band and it just kind of follows you and stretches with you, that's what it did. And I walked through it and I could just kind of feel like I had was stretching it. You're bringing it with you.
Yeah. It's like you walk through jello or something. Yeah. And I was like, that is really weird.
And so I turned around and I walked through it again and it did the exact same thing, but the opposite direction. So I was like, come here, come here. And I was like, I'm just in literally two feet of the bathroom where the portal was. Yeah.
So I'm just in the hallway just right outside of the bathroom. And so I didn't even tell him what I felt. I'm like, what do you feel? And you described exactly the same thing.
It was, it was, it was amazing. That's exactly what it was. And do you know what I felt when I was there? What?
Nothing. And these homeowners, they were fantastic. I mean, we've in every investigation I've done, I've never met jerks. I mean, everyone's been very, very nice.
And if you get to the point where you're calling Ghostbusters because of what's going on in your home, you're willing to do anything to get rid of whatever it is that's, you know, that's troubling you, right? And we were the second people that he called, he first had his neighbor come in, right? Who was supposed to be a ghost hunter? Well, and the problem with the neighbor is he had his equipment stolen shortly before that.
So he didn't really have a whole lot of equipment to work with. But these guys, they were just fantastic. I mean, they had already done their research. Yeah.
I asked them how they found out about us. And they said on the internet, they looked up, you know, like Utah Paranormal investigators and they found, I don't know if they found advanced paranormal or wist, but they found us and contacted Raven. And I can tell by the some of the things he was saying and you know, you know, that he read our website, he didn't decide it and go, Oh, contact send the information. He read your brother.
Yeah, he's like, no, you and your brother started this, right? And I was like, yeah, you read the website. But I mean, they took notes, you know, they, they, we're very vested in what they were doing. So the reason I brought this up was because these mirrors are facing each other.
And one of them looked kind of antique to me. I mean, it looked kind of the oval one. The oval one, you know, it looked like it might be sentimental. The other one looked just like a standard mirror you could buy anywhere.
And so I said, Hey, I said these two mirrors facing each other that creates a portal. And I said, I know, you know, the ideas you stand in front of them because they were both kind of big mirrors. And that way you can, you know, see behind you and make sure you don't have toilet paper sticking out of your waistband or something. I get it.
But I said, it just isn't good. I said, one of these mirrors has got to go. I don't care which one one of them has got to go. He took it down right then and there.
Yep, he did. And you know, put it in the other room. It wasn't. Oh, you know, later, I mean, down it went, and it went in the other room.
They were, they were really good about that. I mean, that that field was it didn't disappear completely, but it like it like went from a tan to like a two with another mirror was gone. Yeah, there's still some residual energy. If we had told them to burn their house down and build it knew they probably would have.
Well, but we don't tell people that. I know we don't. It was so I mean, I'm glad, you know, that we were there because the gear just wasn't working. Even if his neighbor friend had his gear, I don't think he would have gotten anything.
No, I didn't give any pictures because I didn't take my other phone with me. Oh, you know, it completely disabled the video camera in the garage. Yeah, the only thing I could use was the Douncy Nuts. Yeah, and I didn't say anything on the thermal camera.
I mean, I looked and I mean, I saw that there were hot and cold. And it's where they were expected, but I didn't see anything paranormal. Right. Yeah.
So we went out into the garage where the, where the gentleman had had a lot of activity. And Emmet and I went out there with the thermal camera and we saw some motion kind of up in the, in the top right corner from, from our stance. There's kind of like a ceiling joists up there kind of up in that area. Yeah.
Nothing, nothing really definitive. I mean, nothing that I would post is evidence because I don't know. There were light leaks around the edge of the doors. It's hard to say really.
Yeah. But as far as the thermal camera, that's really the only thing that might even have been a thing, but nothing that was like, oh, wow, look at this. It was, it was not an equipment sort of night, which is very unusual. Yep.
So we, um, try to thawgung, gung, gung. So we did, you know, our investigation, um, we wandered around in the backyard. Emmet, you determined they had had a dog that had passed away. That's right.
Very recently. It was still like, they were still agonizing over this dog. Yes. With his loss.
Very, very recent. And it's a puppy that they'd had for about a year at that time. It was a very good dog. You know, they just loved it to pieces.
And to the point that they wondered if its death came about because of paranormal activity. And it was, it was determined later that it was one of these demonic entities that had pushed the dog out into the road. Because they said that they said that the way it ran out into the road was very unusual, um, activity for the dog. I mean, just the way the dog.
It was like he was being forced out. Yeah. I mean, just the way he ran out and where he was was very unusual for him to be there and to act that way. And, um, it was.
So was engineer just to cause stress with, with, with the clients? Yep. So we wandered around in the backyard. Besides finding the spirit of that dog, we found a spirit of a Native American woman.
And she had a dog with her also, like her dog. So there's a lot of one of the things the homeowner said is that the dogs will feel a little. We'll get agitated. Yeah.
And these puppies are, I don't know, six months old. Yeah. They're not tiny and high in puppies, but they're still puppies. Yeah.
But I was going to say, but they, they see and like play with invisible things out there. And later we determined that there was the dog spirits back there. Yeah. And they felt one of the dogs back there.
I don't know which. I felt the, the, the pet that died or the Native American girls, but I did feel at least one dog in that yard and it was a happy dog. Yeah. I think my personal opinion, because I didn't check and ask, but I think we felt the one that died recently because it was a very powerful.
I think you're right. I could feel the other one, but it was very weak simply because it wasn't older. And I'm talking, I'm talking like 16, 1700s older. Yeah.
I didn't pick up on that at all. But that, that, that Native American was kind of attached with the land from way back. Yeah. That was your burial site, right?
I think it was a burial site. I mean, Charles said it was through the dowsing rods and it just had a different field and just on the spirit that just happened in the period. It had a more rooted grounded feel to it. Well, Charles took you right to the spot that you felt it earlier to.
Yeah. We were just using our fields and we both kind of felt at the same place. Right in front of the outhouse there. Yeah, they had like a decorative outhouse.
Decorative, yeah. And then sure we knew that. Yes. He's like, it's the decoration.
Well, you should have told me sooner. Sorry. Yeah. But then we had, we took the dowsing rods out there later and I told Charles I said, cross these when we get to, you know, where the remains are.
And he crossed just right about where we started. I mean, literally within like 18 inches. Literally. Yeah.
Amazing. So for me, so what we did is we closed the portal. We, we did a hard cleanse at the home. Sometimes we'll just do the room where the type three is, but just with everything going on.
We did the entire house. Yeah. Fortunately, it was a small house. Yeah.
And we've done huge houses before. It just takes a little longer. Oh, you remember before we cleansed it, we were standing in the living room kind of talking things over and I was just holding the video camera and something pushed my arm. And I realized today the camera was running.
I wasn't really aiming at it anything. So, you know, but you can hear our reactions to it. Right. Well, the funny thing is, is I mean, I wasn't staring at you watching you know, creepily, but I was putting stuff away and Chad was walking into the room.
So I kind of looked up to see if we were going to pow or anything. Right. And he said, your arm kind of jerk and then I think you said, I think I just got shoved and then you asked Chad if he'd touched you or anything. He's like, no, and I was like, no, I, I walked in.
Yeah. I can see he was too far away, but I just, I had asked him, and he was behind me coming in. Right. And the way you had moved your arm, I remember thinking, oh, I wonder if he saw something interesting that he wanted to carry in catch because it was, it wasn't just, oh, I'm moving.
It was kind of a, a jerk. A little bit of a bush. Yeah, a little bit of a jerk. I think I turned my head to see if the clients were in the front yard at that moment and I had my camera, you know, the hands kind of down a little bit, but yeah, no, it felt like And it didn't move, you know, like if you're looking and you turn and your whole body kind of turns kind of a thing or you know Part of your body it wasn't it wasn't Consistent it wasn't consistent the arm like someone pushed it.
Yeah, it wasn't consistent with the rest of your rest of your motion Yeah, I did that's exactly what it felt like somebody actually physically pushing it. I felt the pressure on my arm There was a little girl in the home. We crossed her over There was the two type three's we cleansed them the Native American woman It wasn't causing any trouble So we let her stay there was an attic and I just had a feeling that the cleansing didn't take care of the attic And I wasn't quite sure how to go about cleansing it and so I thought you know what I'm gonna call Newman Let's give Newman a plug. Yep, so Newman is amazing if you need some readings He and his wife both do readings to my knowledge.
They sell crystals. I know they had a storefront that they've had to change Fantastic if you need a reading a clearing call over the phone miles away he nailed this place. Oh nailed it So you can find him There's two mediums that their names are very very similar We will we will add it in okay, and we'll put it we'll put a slide on the you two also Yeah, so we'll have a slide up on YouTube so you can see it too So I thought you know what and I usually would put coffin else to protect the the entire yard But I didn't have any with me and rug was not able to be there last night She had another thing come up so I'm gonna call Newman and just have him make sure that you know the attic is clear and put a protection on the entire yard So I called him and he answers the phone and this is exactly what I told him. I said hey Newman.
How are you? I'm doing it. I said we're at a home We just cleansed out two type three's and I really need you to you know If you could put a protection over their yard so that the type three stay out of their yard that is all I told him so He you know post for a minute because he does this remotely and he says oh there's actually another type three of them at it I was like I knew it something just said you got to take care of the attic right above those mirrors too right above where the mirrors were So he he got rid of that one he put a protection over the whole you know the whole yard and then he said there's a mirror And you might say oh yeah every house has a mirror that's dumb but he goes there's a mirror, but it's been taken down And I thought the homeowner's wife was going to pass out She's listening to the whole thing. Yeah, I got it on speaker and I thought I mean her jaw couldn't have dropped any lower And so you know he's he cleansed the mirror he took care of the mirror well Each of these people were fabulous, but each of these people had had some some some hardships in life We all do right they vocalized a few things that they were dealing with and it's interesting because when I call Newman You know to come in and kind of make sure that we've gotten rid of everything if there's a question You know he'll talk to the homeowners and he'll have them You know say a sentence or two and they'll clear it break some connections Yeah, you know and he'll talk to him for you know two or three minutes and then we'll call it good I did not tell Newman about these hardships that they had confided in us and he talked to them for what a good 10 15 minutes about these things that they were dealing with and My jaw fell open.
I mean I know they're fantastic I wouldn't call them, but he pegged them I mean between them and the mirror and the type three in the attic You know I wanted to look out the window and see if he was standing outside I was like wow this is phenomenal So anyway, it was a good investigation. I mean those you could tell they were you know They're mood was so much lighter and they were actually happy when we left Well, there was one point when he was having them say some things to break some old connections and stuff I'm just standing there holding the phone and they were getting you know emotional and I could feel just this energy around them as though they had 25 to 30 loved ones standing around them. It was it was amazing. I've definitely put this I mean we've never done a bad investigation But I put this in my top five and the only reason I don't put it higher is because there might be one or two I forget about but definitely in my top five favorite investigations that we did I saw a lot of investigations One thing that keeps you know I keep remembering little details from last night and I remember you know We at the crossing over like you're explaining to this little girl.
Don't be scared You know it's there could be something nice over there. Just and all of a sudden. Oh, she's gone. She started through Yeah, usually I have to coax them.
I mean as soon as we do her attention to the light. She was gone. I was like nice talking to you Okay. Well, that was a great residential investigation one of one of my favorites.
Yeah, it was it was awesome Okay, our main topic today is brought to you by Oteos Mexican restaurant. They're fabulous fine Mexican dining in linden. Please go out and support them They do a great job and we really appreciate them. So our main topic today is interesting because I will sit down and kind of pound out you know Quarter's worth of topics, you know, we try to make them so it's not all people or all places We try to you know mix things up so you've got a good variety and We put on here.
So today is Egyptian tomb curses the interesting little tidbit You will probably notice that doc and rogue and Klaus are not here if you remember the last podcast They also were not here because we recorded this podcast and the last one on the same night because chad and I are going to be in egypt When the next podcast needs to record. Yes. So we're doing two on the same night We will be in egypt and that was not planned. It just happened that way So best that you bone up on tomb curses, right?
So we don't die right because that's what guess what our hotel because you know because of covid travel still is not You know where it was pre-covid, right? Our hotel which was a fantastic price is a one-minute walk from the sinks So yeah, I'm super excited. I can wake up and open my door and there it is right there I didn't know they built that close to the to the site. That's amazing Yeah, they do apparently there's also a Kentucky fried chicken and a like a McDonald's there too, but they just Oh, well, of course, they just don't shoot it from that view McDonald's the Sphinx the great pyramids, you know, I don't think it's a McDonald's.
It's a Kentucky fried chicken and something else But I can't think about viewing standing on that ground and and eating a big Mac. I'm sorry. I'll do it just for you Okay, get a picture. Okay.
Anyway, so we will when you hear this on june first We will actually be in the Cairo airport heading home. So there you go. When you listen to this we will actually be in Cairo Cool And even that came about in a very serendipitous way. Yeah, so but anyone know what so I'm going to school Right, Middle Eastern studies.
So one of my classes this summer is Can't think about it because it's not an easy name. It's an elective but it's anthropological Archaeology of ancient Egypt. I'm taking that class right now So I actually I took it one because it's super fascinating. I love ancient Egypt to the professor who teaches it is also amazing Now I took a class from her last semester and I'm like she teaches this awesome.
I'm taking it again might be plugging for some brown those good points there but I actually texted her and said so I'm gonna be in Egypt for a week and um, I might have a paper turned in late if I test positive for covid and have to stay there And she was like that's okay. Go. Go. Go.
She's like, that's awesome. I used to live there. Go here and go here and go here and go here and like yes Well, this is like your make a wish. I know That's cool.
No, she's super excited. She's like let's see. There's nothing more She's like you couldn't have created a more perfect storm for me to give you an extra few days to get your homework of Hey, I'll actually be in ancient Egypt when you're supposed to turn in your paper on ancient Egypt So you know if we're good the dog my paper You should give you a shopping list, Ditchy. No the camel ate my paper.
Okay. Yeah, there you go. Yep Okay, so we're gonna talk about Egyptian tomb curses and the thing about some of these topics is I wish that we were the supernatural five hours because We could talk about this for five hours. Um, sadly were the supernatural hour this might we often go over this might be the supernatural hour and a quarter I don't know if we'll see but this was fun.
So Emmett when you got about tomb curses. Well, um, I see something called the pharaoh's curse but of course I also see about half a dozen other Ancient Egyptian curses. Oh, yeah, I'm gonna read you some but okay Let's let's hear what you've got on the different types of Egyptian curses because I always thought there was the one And I mean I knew about the they thought it was the same thing when they opened that Polish Emperor's tomb, but that turned out to be like a fungal Infection, but it's never been determined. What caused the pharaoh's curse.
It's still totally unknown, right? Uh, yes, yes and no we'll get there Okay, let's hear the the different types because that that surprised me. You have a list. I do not have a list There's there quickly.
There's the German thief toton commons curse the severed hand victims of toton commons the book of the dead So coming to the curse the mummies coffin that killed 1500 people and finally oh syrus does what he does best Yeah There will be a list. Okay. Well, you know, the interesting thing before we kind of start on the history of tomb curses is it is so Steeped into our lore. I mean movies the mummy Uh Scuba the curse is the best part scuby do mummies coming to life.
I mean, it's it's almost Well, even even through the nose papers and things when they were reporting on um the finding of toton commons tomb and things like that and then some of the the deaths that had surrounded that area, you know, in the People there and you know and they got reported and so it really became part of our consciousness part of our culture Squirrel squirrel when we go to egypt, I am taking some dowsing runs Yep, they're ordered there. They should be here tomorrow. Sorry. That's what happens when you live with me.
We have squirrel moments. Okay back to tombs Um, so toon legends actually started in the seventh century ad and I did not know this The reason that these legends started was because the Arabs went over to egypt and conquered it in the seventh century And they couldn't read the hieroglyphics. I mean no one could read hieroglyphics until the 19th century, right? And rosetta stone yep, and then they found you know and they're seeing all these mummies and you know, they were just strange I mean because that the Arab people had never seen anything like that before and boom that's kind of when all these legends started Um even back then before they could read the hieroglyphics and read the actual curses The Arab people that had gone over and conquered egypt the stories were that if you went into a tomb Um and uttered some sort of a magic incantation things would appear that had been made of invisible by Egyptian priests Um, they also thought mummies could come to life, you know, so when you watch the mummy with Brendan Frasier my favorite money movie.
Thank you very much Um mummies come to life. I mean that's been a thing since the seventh century people you can think the Arabs for that Um They believed egyptians would protect tomas by magic or curses for those who entered and we've talked before about curses And if you haven't happened to listen to that episode yet shame you're behind chop chop Um Little guilt there for you. Uh curses are real and we're actually gonna talk about curses again Um more in depth because we've had several requests to talk more about curses, but curses can happen with the intent you put behind it So Some can say these curses are bunk some people can say no they're real um and arabon. That's a sympathetic magic.
I'm sorry to interrupt But yeah, yeah a lot depends too on you know the frame of mind of the cursed person Right, right. I mean it's exactly you know how much faith you put into it because something can have all the intent it wants But if you have no faith in it, it's gonna fall dead too Um, so arab writers as far back as the seventh century warned people not to enter the tombs And the first book that was published about uh egyptian Tomb curses was published in 1699 and hundreds have followed since then I don't know anybody I mean, I'm sure there's someone out there, but I have never personally run into anybody that said you know what ancient egypt now i'm not interested in it Have you no it's always exciting no no I mentioned to my sister in last one I mentioned to I mentioned to castle that I was going to egyptian. He's like holy cow don't tell my wife Um, anyway, so as you were saying emmett, you know the pharaoh's curse, which is king tuts, right? Um, pretty much.
Yep. Yep. So it's the most famous and um it was discovered by Howard Carter in 1923 And the story goes behind the curse that there was a stone tablet found inside his tomb that said and this is not an exact uh Quote that just gives you the idea is that death will slay with his wings who ever disturbs the piece of the pharaoh um so that was kind of uh That's how that story got around now people say oh, um one of the first signs that this curse happened was Howard Carter Went to or he said a messenger you know with him He says you need to go home and give such and such a message to my wife or whoever So the messenger goes to Howard Carter's home in egypt and saw a cobra which is a sign of um the pharaoh uh, you know the egyptian kings was a was a cobra and he saw a cobra eating one of uh, Howard Carter's canaries And so the messenger is like, oh, this was in egypt though. Yeah, he went to his home in egypt It was not his home in london right now.
This is his home where he was staying in egypt during the day And yeah, and so um kind of this messenger may have started at saying oh, you know the curse is real You know the cobras eating your canary and they say oh, all these people died, you know right after But it didn't kill Carter himself though. No, it was people in his party, but right? See he lived to be almost 70 and he died of um hodgkins hodgkins lymphoma, yeah But they said they don't really think that there was a curse because there were 58 people in that party Um that went into the tomb and only I think there were Like seven or eight. Okay, only seven or eight people died lord canarvon who was Kind of the the patron the guy that helped found or fund the expedition he did pass fairly quickly after the tomb was open Yeah, no, there were I think it was 12 there were 12 no 12 weeks there were eight people that died within like 12 weeks or 12 months But that is suspicious but most of them didn't so here are some of the curses Um, there's one called the donkey curse have you heard of this one?
I heard about her dog creatures Donkey no no bridges there are no bridges Um, so the donkey curse is pretty simple. It was whoever disturbs this tomb will be raped by donkey Stay away from that tomb get pretty pretty short and sweet. Um, there's one for a tomb by a menhotep Um, this is actually a pretty long list This one is if you if you disturb that tomb you will lose your earthly possessions and honors You will be incinerated in a furnace. You will capsize and drowned at sea You will have no successors receive no tomb or funerary offerings your body will decay and they will starve without sustenance and their bones will perish How can you both burn in a furnace and drown at sea?
You know, I think that he just was really really serious about don't mess with his stuff with What you're not my fire will then you'll drown And I kind of figured it was like you remember the saying this was really popular when I was in high school But like we'll shoot you look let's say how did this go? We'll kill you and bury you and then we'll dig you up and kill you again You remember that there's something like that. Yeah, that was a really popular because you want to make sure You're gonna make sure they're good and dead. Yeah, so I think you just wanted to make sure that you just stayed away I get it.
So um, there was a curse of a coffin by a fellow named seren put the first Um, it says anyone who takes from this offering statues. It was more like a statue Um his arms shall be cut off his neck shall be twisted like a bird his office shall not exist The position of his son will not exist his house shall not exist his tomb shall not exist God won't accept his offering of bread his children will fry in the fire his corpse shall not be buried I shall be against him as a crock on the water as a serpent on earth and as an enemy in the necropolis. Wow Tell us how you really feel right. Yeah, that sounds it all up.
It couldn't be worse for for an ancient Egyptian Going back to uh to tuts curse again It was kind of back in the in the spiritualistish movement time the early 1920s and konin doil Like we talked about or you know in our last podcast You know about the fake photography He was into that spiritualism. He was an occultist, you know, and we also know Sherlock Holmes You're the author of um, he really spread the word about these curses He he kind of thought that was pretty cool. And so he popularized it and again. Let's talk about what occult means That it's hidden a lot of people take occult to mean evil But the the meaning of occult is actually just a hidden or hidden truth And so just because something is a cult doesn't necessarily mean it's evil it can be it can be depending on how you use it How you define it, you know, what you do, but yeah, cult is not necessarily an evil thing It can mean just hidden or secreted but he wrote a short story called lot number 249 And he called the he meaning konin doil.
He thought that the tomb curse was an evil elemental That's what he thought like a like a a gin or something or yeah, wow And I found my little notes. Um, it says that the the pharaoh's king-tuts curse says it was debunked And I mean, you know, take it for some people believe it some people don't but one person said it was debunked Only eight people died within a dozen years of opening the tomb and there was 58 people present And that falls within statistical norms. Yeah, okay, but you know, you believe what you believe so Yeah, if you're listening to me and you're going no, it wasn't it was totally a curse, you know rock on makes a good story run with that um So as far as like the types of curses Um researchers say most curses were most likely mind games Um, you know metaphysical, you know, pretty much if you you know, if you mess with my tomb You're gonna get raked by donkey stuff like that Well, and a lot of that the power of suggestion can be very powerful and like you say, you know, when you talk about any kind of curse the idea do the people um On the receiving end of the curse and in the case, you know, might be the people coming in and see that Do they believe and then do they internalize that and cause those things to happen to themselves? Right, but some of these curses were actually physical such as booby traps and poisons that, you know caused actual deaths Um, some of the tombs were just sealed so tightly, you know bolted Blocked to where people just had difficulties trying to get to the tomb Um, there was hidden holes that people fell through trap doors wires Um, and as far as that, and I didn't know about this You know, I had heard of tombs being opened into bacteria being in the air causing some health problems in death Right, but they actually covered the floors in a metallic Um, hematite powder and if you inhale too much hematite powder, um, it can kill you and you know, like Re poisoning?
Yeah, and when I hear this, I think oh, this is stuff back in the old days We don't have to deal with that anymore. Well, do you know who zani hawas is? No, um, zai hawas is an egyptologist and I think he's like the head egyptologist Okay, I've seen a model number of different, uh, yeah, when you watch documentaries, he's the fellow that you have He's the main guy that you have, he's the head of the antiquities department for egyptology Um, he entered a tomb in 2001 So just a little over 20 years ago and they found a sarcophagus buried in eight inches of hematite powder They had to call off the dig and they couldn't come back they had to reschedule When they were all able to go in with hazmat suits and respirators. Wow, so Yeah, they just the ancient egyptians did not want you messing with their debt If you happen to be out in the middle of egypt just digging around and you happen upon a tomb Call dr.
Hawas unless you want to die from hematite poisoning. We'll remember that one were there. Oh, I'll remind you Because I'm gonna go dig in. Well, that's totally new to me.
That's cool. Yeah, I hadn't heard that before and like I said that's super recent so That makes sense. They were buried with great riches. They didn't want to didn't want it pilford Yeah, well and then for them it wasn't even just the riches they believed that they needed that to to go into the afterworld Right.
They had a use for it. Yeah, they thought they'd be using it. So it was very very important for them. So there was a show In scotland and I don't know where this tablet is now But the story that I read Was someone talking about this, you know a show of traveling egyptian objects that was in scotland at the time and it's a tablet They say that finding Finding these curses is actually kind of rare You know the way that it's been built up you think that every single tomb is just covered in curses But they're actually kind of rare and it's even more rare to find the curse, right?
You know still written because When they first started doing archaeology people would just take stuff And they just they'd find it. They'd take it home. Yeah, it's all over museums all over europe If it wasn't museum quality, they would just you know, take it to the side of the whole paper on this just last week You know, so there probably were more but we don't know where they are anymore and this one is actually Just it's rare because in the hieroglyphs this is written out. It's not very big They said it's about the size of two or three bricks, you know to standard house bricks.
It's a clay tablet And it says I speak to those who find this tomb Pass so you know pass by it watch out not to take a pebble the gods who rest are strong Even if their pebbles are taken find your own place He who defiles will be reproached and this is what I thought was interesting and this this is exactly what it said He who defiles will be reproached very very very very very very very very much they used eight verys well For emphasis and it's egyptian. So it was probably katir katir katir katir katir katir katir katir katir katir katir Much I guess they didn't have building they didn't have what bold bold thought Peramphasis carbon extra deep where the curse is ever like chiseled off just thinking maybe that would take away their power I guess not if they find it it's there Yeah, I mean because would which is when it off be defiling the tomb and then you are cursed right you cursed trying to remove the curse Um, so speaking of where they're placed. That's a good segue. I'm not thank you Um They said that finding a curse on and this didn't make much sense to me I had to think about it like on the actual tomb was rare.
They were usually Where did I write this down? Says the power was determined by location and they weren't often on the actual tombs But more on the burial place and I was like well isn't the tomb the burial place But then I kept reading it made more sense kind of the more public part The visitor center exactly you know visitor center the foyer gift shop, but they said you would more likely find the curses on the chapel the walls false doors a Stell a I was gonna look what a stell is and I did not there are tablets Within grafing zone they're pretty standard throughout Egypt and recent ancient cultures and they usually tell a story or talk things They're always out of stone would be a stell a of a look type Okay, I was just thinking we need not here to text stuff that I forget to or to google stuff But we got chat um they would be on statues Sometimes they would be found on the coffins that usually they were in more of the outer areas of the Tombenade on the sarcophagus themselves um The the thing that I thought was interesting is when they when they placed these on like the tomb entrances To protect it from being disturbed or looted most of them Talked about the dead coming back to life the kaju harm Or seek revenge or they call for judgment in the underworld. Those are kind of the three overarching ideas behind the curses They also said Egyptian tomb curses were popular as far back as medieval tombs as far as You know people recreating it You know and putting curses on the tombs you can find curses on medieval term tombs. You don't see much now I spend a lot of time in cemeteries and I've never seen a curse on a headstone I've seen grandma's cookie recipe I've seen some interesting headstones, but I've not yet seen a curse You know what check out just a civil Egyptian cemetery and see what's there.
Oh, we're gonna go to one You know that definitely that'd be cool I have a driver and I'm gonna tell the driver take me to a cemetery and he'll point to the actually Do you know that the pyramids were not tombs? Not they were not tombs. Everyone thinks they are but they're not Hmm We're not sure what they are But they're not tombs Landing bases As I dug around, you know looking for interesting curses to relay, I found one thing that was really interesting That they weren't so much curses like to actually curse you But if you look at other Egyptian documents at the time They were almost written in a legal structure of how they did their legal things at the time So it was almost More like a no trespassing sign Not so you know, it really kind of a I guess at the time their legal documents were very if then based if you do this then this will happen So basically they're just old-fashioned No trespassing It's just here. I will do this and to us it seems like a curse You know if you open the tomb all these bad things will happen to you But for them it was pretty much hey, just leave this place on stay away standard regulatory signs Yep, you know they go visit the mortician they pick out the coffin They pick out the flowers they pick out the words for their if then statement and have lunch of ham and green cello at the church afterwards So it works, right?
You know potatoes? I think so If you're not a curse catalog you can just pick any curse you want If you're not from Utah after the funeral there's a luncheon at the church Provided by the ladies in the congregation and you have ham funeral potatoes and green chol And funeral potatoes are delicious and we have a bag in the freezer right now They're commercially available. I have seen funeral potatoes on menus at Utah restaurants If you're listening to this and you've never had funeral potatoes google it make them they're amazing Green bean casserole Okay, so that's all I have for this episode. We will tell you about Egypt in the next Episode next episode.
I didn't know there was such it was such a wide topic honestly I just thought I thought it was almost a Hollywood product But that's cool The thing about topics is sometimes I pick a topic and it is hard to find enough stuff to fill an hour And then it seems like there's a lot of topics where it's like this needs to be like a five-part series But that's okay. It just means we can talk about it again one of these days and talk You start to pick it apart and things come out that you didn't even think about before Oh, and it's like why is this podcast only an hour? That's as long as I can go without going to the bathroom right me too Yeah, well that was an interesting topic on the Egyptian tomb curses and curses in general Check out our shop at advancedburnermal.com check out our social media on youtube tick-tock All of those places we we really appreciate your patronage there patreon also terrific All right. Well tonight.
I just want to talk briefly about EVP recorders and I realize it's been about three months since I sat down at investigation and tried to Try to get some EVPs And I've been asked you know, what do we use? Well amazingly almost anything works from you know a $25 inexpensive Voice recorder up to you know, we use our our probably most expensive one is a zoom h4n pro Which is made like for podcasting, you know live music or recording Remote sessions is just a pro quality, but it's really complicated to use and but it does produce great results but For what we use it for not that much better than you know a $30 one One of my favorites though, Sony makes a line And they've been doing it for years of an inexpensive EVP recorder and they go anywhere from 40 to 70 dollars and they even have a Retractable USB jack that just folds in and out plugs right into your computer and you can download the files directly So um, I'd say just look over Amazon or eBay. You don't have to spend three or four hundred dollars on a voice recorder I mean 30 to 100 will get you something that'll last you you know for the rest of your life as far as EVPs go Yeah, you know, most people I shouldn't say most people Most of the times when people send us EVPs that they've caught on a public event It's one that they've gotten with their phone recorder on the phone sure. Yeah, and they're fantastic And I even even most of my EVPs I've caught over the audio track of a video You know, I've caught a few on a dedicated voice recorder, but it's most always something else So awesome.
We've even had in the past we've had listeners calling and say hey Go listen to this podcast at this time. We think there's an EVP. We've actually had to emit chat with my emet My spirit emet that lives in my home Has actually chatted on the podcast a couple times. That's cool.
That's cool And I'm still trying to you know, I've been experimenting with inexpensive hearing aids trying to use that as a direct pickup for EVPs So far without a lot of success just because they kick up everything, you know, they're not just discriminating at all But there's a lot you can do in that department without a lot of money. I'm cool. I never thought about that That's about it for this week before the junk drawer. I want to remind you all about supernatural hour swag at advanced paranormal.com Which you all want to visit for all of your supernatural and paranormal needs That's just a fun website.
We've got we've got a lot of stuff on their prunes around t-shirt, sweatshirts, nugs, all sorts of things Notebooks I go on every once in a while and see new things and I'm surprised and it is. It's totally cool So the junk drawer is brought to you by the hub theater. Did I say that right? That's what you've got here on your notes because sometimes I call it the name.
So if you're listening hub theater, we love you I think it's the town. I love the hub theater. Yeah, we will definitely go back there. It's a fantastic venue So the junk drawer today is on a an event Um that I've watched on youtube a couple times.
I have absolutely no notes about it So this could be very interesting super excited. It's called the phantom fortress fortress. I had to ask Chad that like five times today It's called the phantom fortress. It's um an airplane.
Chad might be able to tell us what kind it's a b17g It's a bomber from world war two. Maybe I should have you do the junk drawer We're gonna pass the junk drawer off the Chad so that you get a cohesive story, but I want to hear any story about a b17 That's bring it on okay. Here we go. Okay, so um In 1944 there was an airfield in belgium and after a bombing run that was coming in a b17 was flying into this It was a british air force base that was in belgium and the plane came in and it was they could tell there was something wrong It seems shot out there.
It seemed like there just wasn't things that were we're working on it right and it landed in one of the landing gear collapsed and it fell and it stopped one of the engines and it wasn't the kind of plane that normally lands at this air force base The plane was originally blown out from an army airbase in england But it was landing because it was in distress in belgium at a english airbase when they got there it kind of crashed landed I mean it landed pretty well down on one side one of the engines the propellers were stopped and you know it had kind of done and After about 15 minutes, nobody came out of the plane and after they waited another five or six minutes And one of the hiccups a major went and found a way to get into the plane when he got in on the plane There was no one on board There were 12 parachutes 12 parachutes left in the plane the plane had landed the bombs had been dropped Um, but there was nobody on board the plane and the plane literally landed itself Now the question is how did the landing gear get get get lowered There's lots of weird things about this but this plane flew for many many miles and landed at an airbase in belgium An allied airbase Wow, ghost crew So they they went back and they were able to talk with the crew they were able to find the crew and they had bailed out Um that they had taken some some flak in the bomb bay area Um, the bombs hadn't gone off. They were able to get rid of their stuff They did that but it caused some damage go ahead They um in order to try to to help their situation the pilot had them jettison everything off the plane to try to make it lighter They threw everything out to lighten yeah to lighten the plane so that they could do it. Um, they had had an engine go out um And so they were doing everything to do that and they actually Um a second engine was sputtering and going out and as they had bailed out Um that other engine went out. So the the crew there were there was a 10 man crew and the crew said that and they they all were recovered The crew said that when they bailed out the um the second engine had gone out that there were two engines and they had nothing You know, there was nothing they could do so they set it on automatic pilot And the automatic pilot of the of the day was not anything like ours or today Basically kept the plane in level flight So the pilot had put it on automatic pilot and the automatic pilots of the day just basically kept the plane flying level Um, so that you know the pilots could you know, converse back and forth when there weren't things going on And it was basically so you know, he wanted the plane levels so everybody could get out and all 10 crewmen got out and all 10 crewmen Were there two of the engines were out.
Um when the plane was landing in belgium at the airfield in belgium Um at an airfield at an airfield not just randomly in the forest at an airfield on a landing strip Yeah, the landing gear were down Wow, and they hadn't put landing you don't you don't fly you're playing with the landing gear down Right. Um, so the landing at amazing. It stayed trimmed and in level and actually got to the airfield at all Yeah, I'm part of that. It was the belly.
It's a miracle part of that was the you know That he did put it on autopilot, which would keep it flying level But you would think that after you know the it's gonna fly level until you run out of fuel And then it's just gonna land wherever and it's not gonna land pretty because there's no landing gear But this airplane just is like oh, hey Let's just put down our landing gear and land on our runway at an airport. Yeah, no, that just doesn't happen Right and think about it from let's say from provo to salt lake You're in a plane and you just put it in the direction where you think the salt lake international airport is and you bail out You hope that lands, you know what it does is of even being on the right line to get to the airport Well, and as I know Because I've heard this okay here we go in the in the elia's church There is one of our higher up leaders. Um, it was a pilot for years and years since when he gives talks There's usually an airplane analogy in it, right? And he tells a story off Well, there's one of the story he told was fear an airplane on a heading right in your heading in the direction If you veer off of that heading just even the tiniest little degree it starts out little but the further you know the longer you fly the bigger That distance gets right Right.
So for yeah, so if you if they set this airplane and it's just not on the absolute perfect trajectory It's gonna be way far away, you know, hey I think the airport's roughly this direction well roughly this direction in airplane the longer you fly the further off in whatever Offness you have it's gonna get so that's very interesting and so to have the airplane come in You know and they they could tell it was there they brought in you know the the crash crew and some things in case and just there was nobody on board The other interesting things like I said the landing gear was down landed at the air You know the airbase in belgium. There were 12 parachutes on board that hadn't been used and the coats and the and the coats and the airmans coats They're heavy jackets But they'd you know, but but they had bailed out and they were all fine Yeah, they had bailed out and then remember they had said that in order You know when they were trying to stay on the airplane and save it and be able to land it themselves They threw everything off that they didn't need that was I needed So very weird go out to youtube and look up the phantom fortress very interesting youtube It's what seven or eight minutes long. It's not very long and if your life depends on remembering the name phantom fortress And it's my job to remember that you're gonna die I'll remember that. That's a cool story.
Very cool. The youtube video I recommend it was one of those I just flipping through videos and it's like wow This is weird. I don't know if it's paranormal or coincidental or what but there's a lot of paranormal there I think it's paranormal because Just too coincidental. There's too many weird things.
It's it sounds like a steven spielberg movie, right? Yeah, it's almost was there some kind of a time slip with It could almost be a steven king movie. Yeah, steven king So creep your vibes going on somewhere in that one, but you know, so that's the phantom fortress It wasn't named that that's what the media gave it the name afterwards It didn't have a lot of the b-17s had art and names that they had would give them, you know You'd like the in all the gay with the the pin up girl Yeah, or pin up girls on it with they able this one didn't have any of that kind of Those art or anything else, but they did check you know the serial number and they knew where it was and what what bomber squadron it had Gone out with and they were able to find the crew so very interesting wacky weird story Cool story Wow, thank you. Wonderful.
I love that. I'm gonna look that up Alrighty. Well, I think that is it for us tonight. Thank you for being here with us Thank you for giving us an hour and a smidgen of your time and we will Pop you again next podcast.
