Las dos serpientes Igneas o xiuhcoatls, que graciosamente rodean al Sol en el calendario azteca, también rodeaban al Templo mayor de la gran Tenochtitlan y formaban el famoso Coatepantli o “muro de serpientes”. La serpiente azteca aparece constantemente en situaciones extraordinarias que trastornan íntegramente su determinismo orgánico: la cola, representada por una segunda cabeza en actitudes insólitas, nos conduce, por simple deducción lógica, al binario serpentino.
