El 27 de enero de 1945 fue liberado Auschwitz, en Polonia, donde fueron asesinadas más de un millón de personas; El 5 de mayo, Mauthausen, en Austria, donde la barbarie nazi dio muerte a casi 150.000 inocentes, Este campo es el eje central de esta nueva entrega de Documentos TV. Unos meses después de acabar la Guerra Civil española, el 24 de agosto de 1940, un tren con 927 refugiados españoles –muchos de ellos catalanes- salí­a de la estación de Angulema, en la región francesa de la Charente. Las tropas alemanas de Hitler acababan de dividir Francia en dos y los refugiados creí­an que los llevaban a la zona no ocupada. Pero pronto se dieron cuenta de que iban hacia el Norte. Cuatro dí­as más tarde llegaron al pueblo de Mauthausen, en la anexionada Austria. No les sonaba de nada el nombre de un campo de concentración que llegarí­a a convertirse en uno de los sí­mbolos del holocausto y el exterminio. Cuando el tren llegó a Mauthausen, los soldados alemanes obligaron a bajarse a los varones mayores de 13 años, separándoles de sus familias sin importar si eran ancianos o niños. La tragedia no hizo más que empezar porque de las 470 personas que fueron recluidas en el campo, murieron 409.
