Somos el primer país del mundo en producción y exportación de limones, con la provincia de Tucumán a la cabeza. Esta tendencia se sostiene, a pesar de los efectos de la pandemia, que pueden haber afectado la industrialización de limones para la producción de jugo y aceite esencial. Fueron comentados algunos inconvenientes con las exportaciones de limón, interrumpidas desde julio del 2020 a destinos estratégicos, por problemas sanitarios, pero con el esfuerzo del sector productivo, acompañado por el SENASA, este mes se retomaron las exportaciones a la Unión Europea. El limón es originario de Asia y llega a América en el segundo viaje de Colón en 1.493, mientras que en Argentina llega a la provincia de Tucumán en el año 1.556 con la corriente jesuítica que conocía sus usos y propiedades. Este fruto fue muy valioso para los marineros del siglo 18 que lo utilizaban para combatir el escorbuto, enfermedad producida por la carencia de vitamina C. Los aportes del limón sobre los beneficios para la salud lo convierten en un alimento esencial, principalmente por su contenido de vitamina C. Veamos algunas de sus propiedades: • Refuerza el sistema inmunológico: por el contenido de ácido cítrico, málico, acético y fórmico, que pueden potenciar la acción de la vitamina C y poseer una acción antiséptica. • Previene enfermedades cardiovasculares: por la presencia sustancias con acciones vasoprotectoras, antiinflamatorias y antihipertensivas. • Favorece la cicatrización de las heridas: la vitamina C posee un efecto antioxidante y es indispensable en la producción de colágeno, necesario para la reparación de tejidos. • Ayuda a prevenir algunos tipos de cáncer: por la presencia de ciertos compuestos fenólicos con efecto antioxidante que pueden llegar a inhibir la actividad carcinogénica. Es importante destacar que la cadena productiva del limón también se valora por sus productos industriales, como es la producción de jugos concentrados, pulpas, cascaras deshidratadas y aceites esenciales. Rania Awaad Muslim Central Dr. Rania Awaad M.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine where she is the Director of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health & Islamic Psychology Lab as well as Stanford University’s Affiliate Chaplain. In addition, she is faculty of Islamic Psychology at Cambridge Muslim College and The Islamic Seminary of America.She is also a Senior Fellow for Yaqeen Institute and the Institute of Social Policy and Understanding. Prior to studying medicine, she pursued classical Islamic studies in Damascus, Syria, and holds certifications (ijaza) in the Qur’an, Islamic Law, and other branches of the Islamic Sciences. Mohammad Qutub Muslim Central Dr. Mohammad Qutub is an Islamic scholar with several decades of experience as a teacher and orator. He completed his Master’s and PhD degrees in Uṣūl al-Dīn and Comparative Religion at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and has several Ijāzahs (licenses) and certificates in Qur’an, Hadith, etc. He has spoken internationally in the Middle East, the U.S., and Southeast Asia and regularly holds intensive seminars and university lectures. His passions and research revolve around: Islamic thought and history, Qur’anic Tafsīr, scientific Iʿjāz (inimitability) in the Qur’an and Sunnah, and comparative religion. He teaches students of all different ages and backgrounds in-person and online. He is also an engineer by profession with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the U.S., and extensive experience in the field of Industrial Gases.
