El Planeador de M21 Radio, con Diego A. Manrique. En 1969, James Brown y su banda alcanzaron su máximo nivel de eficiencia. Habían logrado la depuración de una intrincada música propia, igualmente apta para comentarios sociales o invitaciones al baile: el funk. Actuaban constantemente y grababan en cualquier ciudad, aunque su principal centro de trabajo era el estudio de King Records, en Cincinati (Ohio). Allí fue donde se improvisó “Funky drummer”, una pieza en homenaje al baterista Clyde Stubblefield. Editada en 1970, pasaría desapercibida; descubierta en los ochenta por Hank Shocklee, se convertiría en piedra angular del rap. Que conste que, simultáneamente, James siguió registrando baladas y jazz accesible, para complacer a todos los públicos. Pero el presente programa se centra en el funk. Su funk: duro, cortante, lascivo, implacable.
