El Topo (1970) & The Proposition (2005) — "Australia. What fresh hell is this?"
from The Kulturecast · host Weirding Way Media
What can a western be when the genre becomes a blank canvas? As we enter the home stretch of our Salute to Westerns, we look at two films that use the frontier to tell genuinely strange stories: El Topo and The Proposition. One is the surrealist western from master auteur Alejandro Jodorowsky; the other is John Hillcoat's outback western, written by Nick Cave, in which Guy Pearce plays an Australian outlaw tasked with killing his older brother, played by Danny Huston. Plus, Robert Morgan, who played Sergeant Lawrence in The Proposition, joins us for an interview. Mike White of The Projection Booth joins Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, and John Lein to talk Alejandro Jodorowsky, Nick Cave, Guy Pearce, and so much more.
