Welcome to the Tweed Trends Podcast. Hey, Evac, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evac, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweed Trends.
It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Welcome back to Tweed Trends. Today is Election Day. Now, it might not be Election Day where you are, so, bumpy breaks, don't jump on me.
But it's Election Day in a number of states as well as cities across the country. So, personally, right here where I am in Virginia, it is Election Day. School's out, and we are making it do what to do. We're headed to the polls and getting the vote on.
Now, personally, I'm an absentee voter because I'm technically not a resident here. So, I vote with my people back home. But I still sent in my ballot. So, if you're an absentee voter, don't get to get that thing in the mail.
If you've got it, you've been playing around. I actually lost mine. I could not find it. I found it yesterday.
And the rule is that it has to be in the mail by tomorrow, oh, excuse me, by this evening, by seven. So, I got the mail yesterday. I took pictures. I got the receipts.
You can check me out. I'm on Twitter. Next to the post office box with my envelope in my hand. Granted, I didn't videotape myself putting it in there.
But you get the idea, right? So, anyway, if you are in one of these cities or states where today is an election day, then, hey, you know what you got to do? Get up, get out, and get in somebody's voting booth. Now, if for some strange reason, nobody has come up to you with a voter registration form and said, hey, are you registered and you're still not registered?
I don't know how that happened. How you slipped under the radar, I mean, because they're everywhere. But we're still friends. We're still cool.
However, what needs to happen? You need to take today and make it the day that you decide that you're going to go out there and get registered to vote. Because next year, this time, it's going to be a time in the land. And I mean that literally.
It is going to be a time in the land if you don't make your voice heard. Because at that point, I don't want to hear nothing. Anybody has to say, if you do not vote, shut your trap. Don't say a word because this conversation does not have anything to do with you.
You put your vote in and we can talk, we can discuss, we can do that all day long. But if you don't get out there and vote, that's cause for being canceled. Seriously, it makes no sense. No point at this point.
But I'm stepping off my soul box and we're going to get started into this episode. All right. So let's get started. For those of you that are going out to vote today, here's one thing to do.
Do your best to make it fun. Did you hear about Congressman from California, so in California, Representative Katie Porter? She dressed in her Batgirl costume on Halloween. Now, granted it's a different type of voting.
She's in Congress and they had a session where they were going to be voting on something. And she wore her Halloween costume to Congress to place her vote. And you know, some people are giving her grief about that. Now, granted, she did go and change clothes for the actual vote, but she did keep her mask on.
But I can't be mad at her for trying to make voting fun, because there are some, Congressman out there, they probably didn't even show up for the vote. So at least Katie Porter, she was in the house. Now, are we going to shame her for celebrating costume shaming? Is that what we do now on days where we vote?
You know, so how about do something fun? Maybe get all dressed up to go to the polls. Maybe wear your costume from Halloween, as long as it's nothing glorious, scary, anything that's going to cause some type of pandemonium to ensue. We don't want anything like that.
But do your best to make voting fun today. If nothing else, you've got to make voting about something. You've got to make it about something, because it means something. You're not just kind of randomly saying, oh, yeah, any minute, you might want to pick a guy, bite a toe.
That's not how you want to go about voting. Another thing you don't want to do, don't go in there and say, oh, because this person looks like me, then I have to vote for them. Or if this person is from my party, then I have to vote for them. Look at what needs to be voted on.
Now, you may not have done your homework up to this point. And you know what? A lot of people don't. I'm not always up on everything.
But I know for the city council seats that are up in my area that my vote was counting towards, one of the issues is transportation. And it's interesting, because infrastructure plays a crucial role in the United States economy, and is at the heart of how a city provides transportation to its people, its population. And it can get kind of tricky, though, because sometimes roads belong to certain entities. It might be government road.
It might be a state road. So it just depends on who owns the road as to who can repair it, how it gets repaired, how long it takes to get repaired. But that was a hot button issue for voting in my area. And therefore, I wanted to know what the candidates felt about that.
How, what was their vision for making changes, making it better? I don't want to have to keep replacing the shocks on my cars and the tires, because the roads are crap. Let's make some changes. And now, we have a mayoral candidate race as well.
And with the mayor, the current mayor, he's been in place for 25 years. And that's all fine and good. But over these 25 years, show me what you have done. Because if you haven't done these things up to this point, what makes me think giving you another term is going to make the difference.
Like, oh, now all of a sudden transportation is a big thing. The roads are big to me. No, boo-boo. If it wasn't important before, the roads didn't get that overnight.
It didn't happen yesterday. So know what it is, and make your voting today about something. Last but not least, if you don't make it fun, and you're struggling to make it about something, the least thing you can do is make it there. Make it to the polls.
Rather, you got to phone a friend. Hey, are you going to vote today? Let's go together. Make it into a thing, like your annual girls' day, or something.
Y'all don't have to work. Team up with your best girlfriends, and everybody may not vote in the same place. So that might make it a little different. But then, hey, go to your voting place and make a new friend.
And then you look forward to seeing them there every year when it's time to vote. Come up with new and inventive ways to make sure that you make it there. Because we can get so caught up in doing so many other things around in this world that the things that make a difference, sometimes they kind of get overlooked. They get passed over.
And then when something happens, then, oh, my gosh, I need your reaction. Oh, what do we do? Oh, how do we get here? Come on now.
It's not even like that. It shouldn't be like that. Because most things, I'm not going to say all things. Most things, there's a lead up.
And you can see it. And it might start small, but that just means sweat with the small stuff. Because eventually, that little tiny snowball that was rolling down the hill is going to turn into a humongous ball of snow. This is going to run you over and leave you dead in the street.
I don't know where that came from. But I'm just saying, whatever you do, if today is a day for voting, where you are, to your best to make it out to the polls and vote. All right, well, that's today's episode of Tweech Trends. It's all about today being election day and getting the vote out.
So once again, make it fun, do something cool, classy, whatever. But also, make it out there. Make it to the polls. Get your vote in.
Have your voice heard. And then make it about something. When you are placing those votes, make sure that even if you have to educate yourself on your way there, you know what? There's podcasts.
There's all sorts of stuff out there. Talking about all of these issues out there. So educate yourself. Get out there.
Vote. And then after today, here's your homework. Keep track of the legislation proposed. And follow how the people that you voted into office are voting.
Maybe even go to Meetup, create a group. Start a watch group. And then that way you're not doing it by yourself. You're doing it with a group of people.
Create a watch group in your area to follow your lawmakers political footprint. And if they aren't doing the right thing, start plans for the next election. Gruma candidate to take their place. Follow one that's doing the things that you like, that you agree with, or that your group agrees with.
But whatever you do, do something. When you sit around on the sidelines and just watch everything happen, people sit there and say, oh, well, I didn't vote. I didn't, so it's not my fault. But you know what?
You're still suffering with everybody else. So once I'm done with this episode, what I'm going to do, since I, like I said, I'm an absentee voter. But my vote is already in the mail. What I'm going to do is I'm going to take my daughter.
And we're going to go to our local voting polling place for where we currently live. And I'm going to let her see the process. Because I want her to get used to this. I don't want it to be like, oh, well, I never saw my mom vote because she was an absentee voter.
And therefore, I didn't know she ever voted. Well, no, I don't want that to be the narrative. I want the narrative to be, although my mom wasn't an absentee voter during this time period, she still took me to the polls. She still showed me stuff.
She had me talk to the people working the polls. And you got to raise them up, y'all. We got to raise them up so that when it's their turn, they do the right thing. OK?
So have a great day. Get out the vote. And I will talk to you again on Thursday.
