Elections in Africa

This year is a big one for elections on the African continent. 2017 has already seen The Gambia removing Yahyah Jammeh who has been president for more twenty years, mainly due to the strong regional support; however other countries are due to hold elections. A country, like Angola, with long-sitting presidents Eduardo Dos Santos will be holding elections and there has already been criticism on the political and social conditions before the elections. Kenya is another country which will hold elections in a few weeks and already international watchdogs have criticised the treatment of journalists and an open media environment in the country.
