Electricity Bills & Summer Economic Statement
from Clare FM · host Clare FM
Britain's new Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced one of his first major cost-of-living measures, scrapping VAT on household electricity bills from October until the end of the financial year. The move is aimed at giving families some breathing space as energy prices remain high, and it's already raising questions about whether Ireland should consider a similar step—particularly as Irish households continue to face some of the highest electricity prices in Europe. With the Government unveiled its Summer Economic Statement, could there be scope for a comparable measure here? To discuss that, Alan Morrissey was joined by Stephen McNena, economics lecturer at the School of Business and Economics at the University of Galway. Photo (c) Golib via Canva
