Elise Boulanger (Singer/Songwriter, Climate Activist)

from the Radical Fabulatorium · host John Adam Ian

Elise Boulanger is a singer/songwriter and climate activist based on Vancouver Island, in the province of British Columbia. https://www.eliseboulanger.com/ Elise Boulanger is a sweet darkness wrapped in orchestral instrumentation. Hailing from the West Coast of Canada, this Chamber-Pop artist completely captivates audiences with her haunting avalanche of a voice. Boulanger is a bilingual environmental advocate that creates cinematic dreamscapes atop cello, violin, piano, drums and ukulele. Deemed by the Times Colonist as "definitely one to watch" and "a captivating performer whose sonic amalgam hints at chamber music and indie folk in equal parts," Boulanger is influenced by nature and is sonically reminiscent of Kate Bush. ‘The Blooming,’ EP (2022) is Boulanger’s newest release and bursts with unforgettable melodies. Her music video, “It Started in the Garden” (2021), bestows a growing awareness about the importance of biodiversity and contrasts the jubilant, “Cigarettes et rosé” (2020) which launched her onto CBC radio. She continues to be played by national community/college radio, CBC Radio Canada and has made TV appearances on CKPG’s Today Show (2022). Boulanger's passion for the environment has brought her around the world to speak on how we can adapt and live more harmoniously in the face of climate change. She has spoken to schools in Germany, at Sunday church services and has guided action-oriented workshops inspired by her original compositions. Performing for over 15 years, Boulanger is at home on any stage and has twice toured Western Canada. Notable performances include opening for Tanika Charles (2023) and Carmanah (2022), the JUNO celebrations (2018) and many festivals and theatres in BC including Arts Wells (2022), Robson Valley (2022), Woodstove (2022), The Port Theatre (2021), and The Tidemark Theatre (2021). Beyond Canada, she has performed in Mexico (2022), France, Germany, the Republic of Georgia (2019) and Belize (2017).
