Elise Jones: Choosing joy while living with heart failure, emotional health and resilience, and living by the mantra ”share your heart”

from Beautiful Shifts · host Lindsay & Shantil

Elise was diagnosed with atrial septal defect in 2009, had open heart surgery in 2016, and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2021. She also had lung resection surgery this past November. As she shares her story we learn that although her ongoing heart health difficulties have brought about many ups and downs and physical and emotional challenges, Elise has chosen to focus on joy, gratitude, and doing the things she loves. We discuss learning to trust yourself and listen to your intuition when it comes to health and other areas of life, building friendships and serving others through disaster, and how beautiful things can manifest from hard things. We also get to hear how Elise and her family fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams of hiking to the base camp of Mount Everest in 2017!   Elise is a married mother of two daughters in college. She is a yoga therapist, yoga alliance teacher and trainer, certified in several genres in yoga and fitness, and has been teaching fitness classes for 19 years. She's also a roller skating fitness certified instructor and teaches it in different locations around Utah (so fun!). She is the founder of Utah Yoga and Wellness where she hosts wellness retreats, and is a semi-retired river guide.   Elise is a delightful and inspiring person and is truly living by her mantra "share your heart." Thank you so much to Elise for being on our podcast, we absolutely loved talking and connecting and can't wait to go to one of her skating classes!   Find Elise on Instagram @elisejonesyoga where she shares about emotional health and resilience, choosing joy, and is such an uplifting account to follow. My Messy, Human Life Sheena Grund A new adventure of being alive in this messy, difficult, and beautiful human life... topics to be discussed at different times: life, unlearning, disability, faith, love, Spirit... really all the things! It'll be messy (as in all over the place), but that literally in the title of the podcast, so hopefully it's not a surprise! Also, life is unpredictable and beautiful, which I hope this podcast will be, too. Wherever Life Takes Us whereverlifetakesuss Join three best friend as they explore this beautiful world! Half Ties kwamenabrace Half-ties is a conversation series on the funny, beautiful and sometimes challenging moments that interracial couples experience being with somebody who’s culturally different from them.Hosted by creative couple Olivia & Kwamena, we listen to stories about growing up with racism and prejudice; falling in love and meeting the in-laws; navigating difficult conversations within the family and in society, and how these couples make their relationship work and what they actively choose to pass down to the next generation. C.S. Lewis's The Last Battle St. Philip's Church: Charleston, SC Come join us on Wednesday nights as we explore the riches of C.S. Lewis’s marvelous book The Last Battle, which is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is a remarkable book on multiple levels and was awarded the Carnegie Medal back in the 1950s when it was first published. The Last Battle has some themes in common with The Great Divorce and That Hideous Strength that will make it an excellent follow-up to those two books, and like them, it has some remarkable resonance with things going on in today’s culture. It is a book that is both theologically rich and poignantly beautiful in its writing, and it can help equip us to live boldly for Christ in a culture that has lost its way. (Although this book is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia, it can stand on its own and it is not necessary to have read the other books for this class.)
