Ellen Weaver Discusses Palmetto Civics Project & More

South Carolina just celebrated Carolina Day as part of SC 250. Today I have Superintendent of Education for our state Ellen Weaver to talk about all of the amazing history here along with ways to keep kids reading during the Summer with the America 250 reading list. Plus when they return SC is revamping our social studies standards so what will that look like. Ellen also talks about some of the incredible figures in our nations history who happen to be from South Carolina. People like Mary McLeod Bethune who founded the HBU Bethune Cookman University, William Jasper who led the patriots at Sullivans Island against the British and Major James Capers from Bishopville who was the 1st African American to receive a battlefield commission and lead a Marine Reconnaissance company, and who thanks to our SC delegation in DC lead by Ralph Norman, finally received his long overdue Medal of Honor from President Trump.
