Elliott Smith: Newstalk ZB's Lead Rugby Commentator on the NZ Rugby Summit looking at how to cut outgoing costs

The future of Super Rugby and the NPC are on the table today as New Zealand Rugby holds a critical summit.  The organisation needs to save $20 million a year, and options include merging teams or scrapping both competitions in favour of a new eight to ten team format.   Newstalk ZB's Lead Rugby Commentator Elliott Smith told Mike Hosking the issue for NZR is not revenue, as they're making enough money, they just need to trim some of the outgoing costs.  He says they've developed professional game over the last thirty years, but they haven't taken away any elements or reshaped the game.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
