In a show of power and influence, Elon Musk whispered his dismay over a bipartisan government funding deal into Donald Trump's ear and the pair worked to threaten and pressure Republicans to support a different last minute Trump/Musk approved deal. Even so, dozens of Republicans joined Democrats in voting down the revised bill - which included a two-year suspension of the debt limit. House Speaker Mike Johnson says Republicans will "come up with another solution" but the deadline to avoid a government shutdown is today.
