Alright, let's get on with the show. Weeding down upon the underworld to smash gangland, come a friend of the unfortunate enemy of criminal. In a serious, all powerful character, a problem to the police, but a good state of law. Hello everybody and welcome to the Rackham Sound.
We're not doing anything. So we just started, it's kind of like hit the ground running kind of thing, so we're gonna vamp a little bit as we wait for the chat to populate. But the first thing I want to mention is of course that if you want to support this show and you're watching it live, you encourage you to use the Super Chats because that's a great way to participate in the actual content of the show, because we'll read your question and answer it during the show in an organic fashion. It's not gonna hit the breaks as hard as possible, and then immediately address questions not related to the show.
But we will try and address every single one of the Super Chats in question for the episode. And we also want to take this moment to also promote our Patreon, patreon.com slash comic-pop.com. You can find a link in the description below to catch that, and you can also get access to behind the scenes updates. I gave a big old update about what we're working on on this channel just this Monday.
I tried to make it every Monday. So I guess that's it. I guess I did it last night. We're very tired.
It's true. Let me get through the Patreon plugin. We'll talk about what we're tired. So, yeah, patreon.com slash comic-pop.com to get behind the scenes video access, and also of course behind the scenes updates and stuff like that.
Early access, that sort of thing. By the way, let me address the Elton room because a couple of people already have more glasses. And that is because we're exhausted. And there's nothing to do with our lives in a really dramatic way.
No, we planned this. It was stupid. I made a joke about how we should have stayed someplace else. I knew you were like, nah.
Nah. But I was actually really serious about it. Totally right. And honestly, we should just pick a different day.
Yeah. Yeah. So this morning, we took our little flurkin wash to the vet for a possible tooth extraction. Turns out when they got in there, they didn't have to extract anything, which is great for us.
It's great even though it costs the same amount, by the way. What the hell? Same price. Get in there, take it out, and sew them up.
It's because same as now, whenever. But anyway, because of that, the cats, with three of them, Washkin have food, I forget PM. They always get an evening drive who'd pick me up. When they go to bed so they can leave us the hell alone.
So they didn't get that. And then at midnight they can have water. So. One of them in particular was just like, every hour on the hour I woke up, and done with her.
I know that you had to deal with her a couple times as well. Oh, yeah. But literally, every hour on the hour from 2 AM until 8 AM, when we finally got up. Which of course, because they like saving time, for those of you who are not American.
Like 7 AM. It was 7 AM, 7 AM, 7 AM and. Yeah, that being said, by the way, I told him, why not wash? Why don't you step to this face and wet to bed.
Yeah. The one is the good boy. Good boy. He's the one who has the problems, and he's a good boy.
Good boy. By the way, not really that much problems at all. Like when he gets sick. Yeah.
He gets expensive sick. They all like it's all very good but he's good. He's recovering at home so high. Exactly.
Like his eyes are just dilated and like he's really very slowly going around the house. But he's handling his his his his post experience very well very recently. Like I'll catch you. And I appreciate the hair compliments everybody.
Yeah, yeah, I like it too. It was nothing but the most important. It was a rough it was a rough morning. It was a rough morning but that being said we're excited to talk about things and yeah we've bam for you now.
Yeah, so yeah we're gonna talk about at least one major book and one major movie. Normally I did an entire episode of Althurak to a movie but we figured you know what? Doomsday Clock and it's so rare that the issue of Doomsday Clock comes out. Yeah, we have to celebrate.
We don't get to talk about it very much. It's true and I don't think anyone's got the patience to wait another week to talk about a book that's six months late. So yeah, we're gonna be. We're gonna talk about that a little.
Yeah, so we thought we'd front load it with some movie talk. Obviously the movie on every mine's right now, the last week was got the Marvel of Drought just blew this past week. Not this past week. We can't even before that, right?
No, I was supposed to be. Yeah, it feels like two days ago was really long ago. Well yeah, because we didn't. Yeah, not sleeping will do that again.
Yeah, but we did see it's Thursday night which was awesome. And we got to see it that early. So yeah, Captain Marvel which was directed of course by Anna Bowden and Ryan Fleck, two directors. Which I noticed that a couple of criticisms and I saw a lot of criticisms.
But one of them was like, I fell into two different movies. Like the first part I was like, yeah, that might be because of two directors. But it might also be because we look for something. So let's jump into our thoughts on some of the castings, some of the decisions, some of the movie opinions and then jump into more comic talk.
Of course, do you have any recommendations for the comic this week? No. Okay, because I might. Okay, I should have.
I want to dedicate a section of the show to recommend books that we think you should pick up this week since we talked about things like in the last week. So Captain Marvel, one of the things that stood out to me the most. Yeah, I don't really know if that's even accurate. I was going to say like I was so impressed with Nick Fury.
But I'll talk about the movie. Opinions on the movie. I dug it. Yeah, I dug it too.
It's fun. Yeah. And there's no like asterisk after it. No.
Because like every time I see anyone talking about it online or in person, usually they go with a caveat. Like I didn't dig Iron Man 3, right? But I still had a good time watching it. Like I'm in the theater.
There are a couple of man thing references on Iron Man 3. I'm like, whoa, it's kind of cool. Like, okay. We're in the kids garage for too long.
Okay. You know, Killian sucks. And I'm like, that's really boring. I don't really care for that.
But I'm still enjoying the movie as it's going. So when people say like, what do you think of Iron Man 3? I'm like, oh, you know, it's not for me. You're like, oh, you know, it's okay.
That's fine. But if they're like, what do you like about Iron Man 3? I'm like, oh man, I like this, this, this, this. But I never say like, oh, I like this.
It's too bad this, this, this, this happened. Like that's like a different question. And every positive review that I've seen, a grudgingly positive review of Captain Marvel I've seen is it was okay. But I got to say, you got a couple of rights.
I'm like, oh, yeah, no, the door, the door, the other day. I'm like, whoof. Rather watch that. Rather watch that.
Rather watch Captain Marvel. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I think a lot of the negative stuff, I mean, there's a ton of reasons. But like, a lot of people, like, especially like actual reviewers, they're just done with superhero movies.
And so like regardless of the movie, they're going to ding it. You know what I mean? They're just like, it's so funny to be them when reviewers talk about the superhero genre and have it done with it. And I'm like, you know, I'm kind of done with rom-com.
Yeah, exactly. We're the westerners really played out. Like, we'd ever stop those. So how about the Oscar grab?
You know what I mean? Like, it's just like- Do we have another sleepy World War II era movie about a guy who's the old? Yeah, they have to stop with that, in my opinion. Yeah.
They got to stop being down on the superhero genre just in general. Just accept the fact that this is a thing that exists now. And like, a lot of people like it. And regardless of how many times you say how tired you are of them, they're going to- They're not going to stop making me.
Yeah, they're still making me- Yeah. Get over it. And both camps, comic book fans, non-com book fans, everyone loves these movies and enjoys them for different reasons and we're all going to see them. So get over it.
Yeah. Yeah. This film, I thought, did a really good job of trying to make all of that work. All of what?
Her history. Yes. And like, just everything about it worked in a way that was digestible and also I think did a very good job of retconning her into the M.C.A. Right.
Like, how do you explain where she was? How are we going to make this film when you already have all this long history of like, you know, movies that have been going on? You do a period piece. Like a period of- A period of- A period that isn't really that.
Chronicles, except when they were making them? Well, I was going to say, not all that long ago, but like, still completely works and yeah, I just thought they did a nice job overall. Like, I really, really enjoyed it. Just in terms of pure opinion about the movie.
Yeah. And that's it. Like, I didn't love it. I'm not like going to go buy Captain Marvel sweater.
I have one. I know what you do. I do, and I would have worn it today, but I'm too hired. I was like, this is already on my body.
I was not enough people know how awesome the Bronx Zoo is and how much I love the Bronx Zoo. It's true. I have to work there. But you would be like, you'd be there for like a week and be like, oh no.
I'm too sad. Yeah. Someone died. Someone.
A creature had to be euthanized and you'd be like, that's it. Yeah. But yeah. So just off the cuff, dubbed the movie.
I think it's cool. And I think she will be a welcome addition to the MCU. Yes. The, there was a, by the way, spoilers in this review.
So if you haven't seen anything else, and you want to, you know, see it without any blinders on or whatever, like, you know, stay tuned for more. Right. So yeah, by the way, I also want to take this opportunity to fix an error. I think I said in an episode of Back Issues that I thought that Jugla was going to play Mar-Vell.
And that was based on a lot of rumors that I'd heard at the time because they were really kind of keeping Yon Rock's secret. Right, right. And I always thought that Jugla was going to play Mar-Vell. Turns out no.
I was totally wrong about that. He plays Yon Rock. And so, you know, I'm wrong. Like, he would be, something like that.
Right, right, right. So yeah, from there, I guess we talk about like standout things, we just really dug. I, there were a couple things that I thought were like awesome inter-, okay, special effects. I thought the Nick Fury thing was like 99.9% flawless.
Right. I agree. Whereas Goose, when he was like going through- It's really hard. He looks not like a cat.
No. Sometimes. Sometimes a real cat looks awesome. And that's the issue.
You had nothing to compare Nick Fury to. He looked like a- I had my recollection of what- a recollection is a little different having it right next to it. I think for general it's difficult for them to render- It really is. Kind of this point.
I mean, especially when it's something you're not so- Yeah, but like to have a physical cat there in one frame in the next frame to have it not be there. It's a lot easier for your brain to remember what it just looked like. Yeah. So that's kind of hard.
But I still, I love Goose. Oh yeah, no, I thought Goose was great. I mean, of course, RIP Chewy, that was his original name. Ethan, I had a long conversation about how like, why don't they just name him Chewy?
If you have the Star Wars license, a lot of fun, you may go in space or her. But apparently they won't- What would it be? What would it be? What would it be?
Referencing, like does Star Wars- It's an existent movie, British show. Also, like there's no one in the base who would have named Goose that was- That seemed to me to be like a big or closeted Star Wars thing. So it worked in the context of the movie. But yeah, being said, special effects, everything looks pretty cool.
Like a lot of the space stuff looks great. The effects look really good in terms of her powers. I love her powers. The de-aging effect that Marvel has been pioneering in fixing over you over there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's really, really good. Yeah, I mean like Colson wasn't in very much, but when he was like, that's not what Clark Greg looks like right now. No, it looks like a very thin young Clark Greg.
It was really fun to see. For you, you click. Good for you to be back too. Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, man, that Nick Fury thing. And it doesn't hurt that the canvas is on Samuel Jackson who is 70 but looks 55. Right. So it's like, oh, I really only have to de-age him like 20 years.
Not too much. But if you just look at the poster for Shaft and the trailer for the new Shaft reboot, it's like, you- Yeah. Wow. Anyway.
Okay. I think we should talk actually about Captain Marvel. I think you're right. No, Brie Larson.
What do you think of Brie Larson's portrayal of the character? I love her portrayal of the character. I think she really solidified what the attitude that writers have been trying to put on paper for quite a while. Being from the East Coast.
I loved her sarcastic sense of humor. I was like, yeah, this is what I can get right behind this. Like, I love sarcasm. It doesn't matter who's saying it.
I love it as like a silent humor. So it really hit for me. Right. I was like, yeah, this is great.
Like, even like when she and Jan Ragh would have like a back and forth. Like, he was equally sarcastic. I loved it. It was just great.
No, I agree. I remember the trailer. There's a moment where I was like, really didn't like the delivery. It's exactly as it is in the movie.
It's when Fury and Carol are driving to a clandestine location. And he asks, he has to run down of Kree and she corrects him. He's like a race of noble warriors and she's a hero. It's a noble warrior hero.
It's an awkward sentence. It was horrible to say. I was like, oh, what is that? She seems very confident in that scene.
Of course, she's also, at least she thinks she's an alien. And so it was this interesting. I'm like, oh, I guess she's going to go through some kind of weird, like, metamorphosis or the very least. I don't know.
I know what the Kree are. They've never been heroes. They're dickshits. She's going through some experience.
And I was like, that's going to be interesting to see her growth from that. And it really does happen. And I've done it. And it informs the character in that moment.
But it was a moment where I'm like, oh, shut up. And then I'm like, oh, okay, I see. And then it went on to something else. I'm like, okay, cool.
Carol comes alive for me when she's Kree, when she's pure like, I am this. Yes. It was hard to really connect. And I thought with her.
It was only until we see her friendship with Maria Rimble that she came alive as a character. Yeah. But I think that that is intentional. It really works well.
It's funny because the Kree are supposed to be portrayed in the movie as being kind of like emotional and very kind of stoic people, even though they all have very distinct personalities. And they're all kind of fun, especially the characters we've seen, of course, in the cards. But for whatever reason, they're like, no. It's almost like Carol is the Kree that we've warfficed the Klingons.
No, I actually am like a Kree supposed to be. I don't make funny jokes. She's kind of like strong-willed and singularly purposed. I want to do this one thing and get it done.
Yeah, but she does make jokes. She does make jokes, but it's in a more like, it's in a more- But she even gets like chest eyes for making too many jokes. For me, what I liked was that like, for anyone who didn't know going into this, that like she wasn't meant to be a Kree. They're just watching the movie and she doesn't seem to fit into this world.
I really liked that. I like that. I like that. Like the movie's like, no, she's Kree.
And yet amongst the Kree she doesn't even fit in. But like she's alien in an alien world. And we of course, later on, learn that she's not in fact Kree. That's most of us now.
And that would make sense because there's something within her that can't help itself. She doesn't fit into the world because she's not into being that Kree. Exactly. But I like to be larsens per trail of the character.
There was I think growth, because she has to go through this interesting... It's not like she needs to learn humility in this movie. She doesn't need to learn how to play well with others. It's actually kind of more of a subtle growth and change to go through.
And I kind of dug it. And I was like, it took me a minute to learn and to go through it. But I'm like, no, no, no, there's something in there. And I really dug it.
I'm really excited to see her in this version, especially after 20 years of her journey. And where she's ended up. Yeah, no, I agree. And I'm actually really glad that we started with this period piece because it allows her character to have a fun heroic adventure to begin with.
And then transition into something more serious. Kind of like the web-heavy tree to Ant-Man. And even the Guardians to some degree. The Guardians had a good old time.
Even though he loses his mom and dad. Right. He had some laughs and now it's serious. And then of course the Guardians' future is a little uncertain at this point.
But where they'd move on past Infinity War, it could be whatever they wanted. They could return back to these happier times, but they could not. But their option is there because we've shown them happy prior to this. Right, exactly.
So I really did think that they gave the opportunity for us to have a good old time. Also, between Ant-Man 2 and this kind of that palette cleanser that like, Hey, we're having a good time in the MCU before we dive back into Endgame. Oh, Endgame. Yeah, which at the very least the teaser and trailers seem to indicate is going to be a much more grounded...
Yeah. Kind of thoughtful. Yeah, I don't want to call it like a palette cleanser, but it gives us an opportunity to feel that dourness again. Yeah, because without feeling like needing to extend it.
Right, right. Because if there's too much seriousness, it makes you numb to it and then they have to go above and beyond and do ridiculous things to make you feel that again. Or you do something like that where it's like, Hey, we give you two fun movies. And wait, was it me and two or was it Ragnarok?
It was a Ragnarok and gay or an Infinity War and Ant-Man 2 I think. Whatever it is. Whatever it is. What I'm saying though is that like, coming into this though, we've had a nice time.
Right. I think we're just at the end of this film, but going into it, it's like, Oh yeah, okay, here we go. Like I'm prepared and not prepared all the same time. No, that's true.
Because of this. But yeah, overall I think Ritz did a nice job. I think she handled the role well. I think her portrayal of the character and it's like sort of an infancy of, you know, it's an origin story.
It really is at the heart of it. It's an origin story and it's not an origin story at the same time. No, yeah. Because we get the flashback.
We get all that stuff. We get all that stuff. But then like, she's had her powers for a while. She's been training for a while, but she hasn't become Captain Marvel until the end of this film.
Exactly. So, you know, she'll be able to have that growth and they don't have to show it to us necessarily. We'll be able to just get it and we can move on or not. If they want to do a period movie, fine, don't care.
Right. It wouldn't make any sense necessarily. No. But, you know, we've seen what the kickoff is and we understand what would have taken her or gotten her to the next step in her journey.
So that's cool. Let's turn it into super-chast really quick. Oh, sure. We should be transitioning between points about this movie.
Yeah. Because there have been quite a few. Look at that. I've just been chattering on.
Everything Greg says MCU Carol's funnier and likable, unlike the comic. It's tough to get into her character because she has the baggage that MCU Carol doesn't have to carry. Yeah. Also, because I don't think anybody's really had a, you know, this is where it's going to go and then an expert picks up with that necessarily.
And so it's kind of muddy. A lot of characters in Marvel continuity have certain character beats that they need to hit in order to beat themselves and when they're not, it's foreign. But for characters who don't have that, it's more difficult to write them consistently. Great.
Yeah. No. The other one was from Michael Lowe. What happened to Badish yesterday?
It's next week? Yeah, it's every two weeks. Yeah, it's every two weeks. It's gonna be back issues between them.
Or something like that? Yeah. It's not every two weeks. Yeah, it's every two weeks.
It's gonna be there. Mr. Roboto says, how was Ms. Marvel and not dead cat Marvell?
I don't know what you're asking? Yeah. Ms. Marvel's not in the movie.
Not dead, Captain Marvel was in the movie and was dead and was fine. Nigel Red says the movie was surprisingly pretty anti-war and anti-militarism, despite the air force promotion. Love the movie and very interested in Monica's future. Yeah, I love the young lady who played Monica.
She was. Love Marie as well. Yeah, I loved, like, they were fantastic, honestly. And really a promotion for the air force at all because I think it was more like, she's an air force pilot.
Right, but we're not, I guess, like, the air force is being present. Right, they're there. But like, just because someone drinks a Coke doesn't mean they're endorsing it. Certainly not a promotion.
Yeah. We're gonna use it, by the way. I'm not drinking one right now. But yeah, but I liked the message as well.
We'll get into that hopefully soon. Forging views, I kind of cool how they subvert expectations by making the original Marvel woman. Yeah, I'm fine with that too. I was like, actually surprised it was even a Marvel movie.
Yeah. Like, I thought that the Marvel thing, because I was so certain that Juleau was Marvel, I was kind of like, oh cool, I just want to have one. And like, no, no, no, it's not anything. It's like, okay.
I love it, that thing. I think she, I know you love her as an actor. I think she was really cool in the movie. I thought she was really great in the movie.
I thought she showed, like, for the, like. For the 12 lines she had. But we've been playing a time that we had with her. I think she showed a lot of range.
I do love her as an actress. I just think she's just, I just, I don't know, she plays two very different characters. Very different characters. And like, I love her as Marvell, I love her even more as...
The Supreme of Tel Aviv. Yes, like she's just so just like, mhm. Yeah, I'm very disappointed in you to see the big green tentacle. I get it, I get it, but like- I get why they didn't do it, and I was very not surprised they didn't do it.
Right, right, right. But I was also very- They're not surprised that they didn't do it. Like, you know what I mean? I was like, oh, they're not gonna do it.
They're not gonna do it. They're gonna storm cloud galactus again. And then like, they don't show them like, of course they're not gonna do it. Cause it looks stupid.
Yeah. Every time I talk about the green super intelligence on the couch, like Ben Ethan and you were like, what is this? Why is he like that? That's so stupid.
Yeah. But like, hey, like you got an event, you might as well use an event to be the Supreme Intelligence. Yeah, but there's no more she goes like, no, no, no, no, which I'm glad. And then she's always going to be the Supreme Intelligence necessarily.
This might actually, I mean- Oh, no, yeah. Well, I guess in theory, if- Well, they kept the whole thing. Goes back in, then yes. Well, and they did the whole thing where it's like, you don't know what it looks like.
Right, right, right, right. It's just fine. But I thought she was so great. But I thought she was so great.
Like, she's just like, ooh, love the music. I got really- Oh, yeah, no, she's very- It's such a real thing. She's clearly doing it. She doesn't need to know.
She gets the motivation behind it. She's just like, no dress her down. Yeah, right. Like make it comfortable, but also like make sure- That she knows her place.
How confident in your role that you are. Like that's- That's actually really cool. She's very good. Jack O'Connell, the fact that Nova Corps fought the Cree in Guardians shows, everyone in the Cree were going to be wankers.
The Skril twist was great. I agree. I don't think it was like- I was like, bravo! No!
I was like, ah, you got me movie? I was like, this is refreshing. Yeah, we'll get into that in a minute. Polish GMR says, hey, I heard quite mixed things about the movie as someone who isn't hugely into the MCA who I enjoy some of the films.
I find a lot of them to be overrated. Could you recommend this movie to someone like me? Sure. I mean, here's the thing.
It's- It's an AC movie. Like, you know, like, it's an origin story. You're not going to need to watch all the other ones. Like if you did- If you did Grounded Earth Stuff and Space Stuff, you're probably going to do it.
It's going to be- it's going to be both. And there's callbacks and references to those universes and all those things. Like, you know, there's characters that show up and you might go, who's that? I guess that's a thing.
Yeah. But otherwise, you won't need to worry about it. Right. Yeah, exactly.
You know me, guys. I'm a huge talk to Train Tran, but I was less a fan of his origin story. I think this is a good origin story for a character. Yes, I agree.
I found a story for you. Yeah, you know what I mean? So, like, each person is going to be very different in how they perceive this as a movie, a superhero movie and an origin story. Right, exactly.
So, and then Mr. Bovis, more and more movies need the Oscar speech. I don't know what that means. I'm sorry.
So, there's a brilliant casting move that I first thought was- they were going to- Michael Ironside this movie. I call it Michael Ironside and when the casting director goes, I need a character who's a military authority figure that has the presence but doesn't have any actual backstory in the script, but everyone in the audience will know who he is and what he's all about and will be surprised when he turns up. Oh, I guess I'll just cast Michael Ironside. Or I need his voice to voice a character.
Who is unvoicable? Unvoicable and unfeeling and a bad guy. Yeah. That, like, when you make your dark side movie, just make a maul CG and get Michael Ironside to maul cap him.
Just call me Michael Ironside. He's perfect. Don't even maul cap him. I don't care.
I just want his voice. Right. Well, I think he's going to be fine. I think he's going to be fine.
I'm going to be fine. But that's like an example of not lazily casting Michael Ironside. But anyway, they cast by Mendelssohn, who is the bad guy in the last five or six tentpole franchise movies? And what the hell?
I'm like, oh, Jesus, he's going to play Tylos, the friggin' troll, the scroll like bad guy. Sure. And then they flip the script on you. Yep.
And at first, because they're scrolls and your condition is a Marvel comp reader to not trust them. To have him, when the turn happens, when it turns out that the scrolls are actually on the receiving end of the crease ire and they are in their second lessons. I'm thinking, oh, he's playing at Heart Springs, it's going to be a double crawl. Right.
I thought the same thing. And there's going to be an outpost there and the scrolls have been here in the old time. I thought they were going to tease the crease scroll war, but actually it was going to be secret invasion. And it's like, no, there have been scrolls here the old time.
And so you've got a bigger problem on your hands. In fact, when it's revealed that he's in shield, it's been the whole time I did piece together that, yeah, I was like, oh, okay, cool, right on. Got it. Exactly.
No, it turns out that he really does meme it, he says. And it's great to see, okay, so it would be smart to be like, okay, we're going to get that middle sink is like his face is on all these things. He's direct a critic. So we've got to put his face on everything.
But obviously the guy who plays Talos won't be bad. That was bad medicine. I'm freaking scrolling. He looks great.
And he actually gets to act as opposed to like he's the bad guy. Right. What I did about this whole flipping the script kind of thing is it's like now that you're there and I'm like, oh, it's so obvious that you did all of this. Like you cast Jude Law.
Right. Which is like, oh, he's a good guy. Yeah, he's a lead to man. Of course, he's going to be fine.
And then like the little green men basically, they're the bad guys. Right. That's what I'm like American like, you know, average movie goers should think. What?
Like, yeah, it's so obvious now. It's just like, oh, yeah, you totally like did all these things to get me to that point. Yeah. Yeah.
And if you're a compo-gore, you're like, no, it's real bad. It's real bad. I'm told. It's real bad.
And I've been arguing against that whole concept forever. Whatever. They're like, hey, scrolls are sentient beings. They're capable of science and agriculture.
Like, why are we like letting you even eat them? We're supposed to cheer. This is horrifying. But then that medicine's like, no, we're screwed.
And yes, we do shape shift. And yes, we are like tricky, but we're not evil. Right. And like I like the idea that there's a potential that it's not all of them are.
And that there are. You could have that's right. Yes. Because they're people.
Right. And all people can be good or bad. Yeah. They're indifferent.
Yeah, exactly. And he, for him, he's just like, I just want to get my family and some of my people away from here. And I don't even want to deal with this. Yeah.
This is not for me. Does a great job. Does a great job. Even with the humorous moments, because I always go back to that moment where they're in Maria and Impo's house.
Yes. And the show's, no, they're in the house. No, they're in the house. And they're at the house.
They're in the house. I think they're in the kitchen. And they're like, oh, it's an orbit. Yeah.
And he gives a science officer this like, are you for real? I've been here for like how many years? It's just you jackass. Orbit?
Yeah. You're my science guy. It's really funny. It's very clever.
Yes. And it was a smart move because it made it so that we didn't play to the other concept of like, let's follow this humanoid looking white person and have them beat the bad guys. They're blue and they're green and whatever. And it's like, no, in this, no, like the truly alienated orders are people are the squirrels.
That's really cool. And it was a great way to pull the rug out from our hardcore comic book fans because like, we were expecting the opposite. Yeah. So that was really cool.
And does secret innovation better than secret innovation? Yes. For me. Because it's like, oh, you're actually tackling it.
Like you're actually dealing with them being with their humanity. Because I like to say, as Kirk said, everybody's team. Yeah. But like, yeah, I really dig that.
And he was a smart casting choice because it also played into the double standard early. Not the double standard, but the rug pulling. Because you're like, oh, that man knows that he plays the bad guy. Of course it plays the main bad guy.
Right. Because he played the main bad guy literally four or five of these movies. Which was weird for me. Like, the Cree just in general.
Like this was like, this was interesting because it was like, we've dealt with Roman so far. And like, I know Roman was like a little extreme. Right. But he is still a Cree.
He's still a Cree. And if you were not the thing, I mean, if you do it with each other, but if you want to get into the field, the Cree have not been the best. No. Honestly, there.
And so here we are with the Cree who are like portrayed early on to be like, we're just doing our thing. We're a little at least understood, but we have our reasons. The reasons it was scrolled. And it's like, no, I see the Cree are just consistent.
Yeah. No, you're great. They're just consistent. They're not the best in this world right now.
I mean, they're all bad, but like, you know, the one that's called something. The dead one. The dead one. The dead one.
Who knows? Yeah. I think in terms of making this like a 90s flick. Oh, yeah.
I enjoyed like without making it too obvious and like too like tongue in cheek. Some of the jokes and a little bit of the humor I felt really fit for that time period. But now making it like feel too dated. You know what I mean?
Like without like using too much like lingo or what have you. No, it didn't really feel. You know, the grunge look reference was like the most on the nose. Like we were in this time period yet.
Although the blockbuster also was a way to be like we're trying to acclimate the audience and what year it is, but also make it choke. And also it's like the most obvious thing you can possibly put her into this half of what year it is. But it works and I'm fine with it. The Stanley cameo was a great way to be like this is the year this movie takes place in.
Yeah. It also like solidifies that like the viewers universe I guess is real in the Marvel universe. Like well, like Kevin Smith movies. Yeah.
Kevin Smith, Claire small rats, at least small rats. It came out during time period and like that's Stanley. That's not Stanley as a character. No Stanley plays Stanley.
That's just Stan. Yeah. That was really cute. Yeah.
And honestly, I know like that opening the Marvel logo was like it was like it was a gut punch because initially it was like oh it's just like one image of him and then to have it be every guy he's had was just it was incredible. And it was really I think what tastefully done and I think an excellent idea for them to put the thank you to Stan at the beginning of the end because everybody saw it then. Yeah. You know, instead of waiting to the end where you know some people leave before the post credit scenes which was just like how?
Yeah. No, I love that. Yeah. That was a really nice touch.
Post credit scene. Oh, so that's kind of it. I'm done. I recommend it.
I think you should go check it out already. And I think she's going to be a welcome edition of the universe. I think so. I'm looking forward to her interacting with the other characters.
I'm excited the fact that they have introduced Monica Rambo. Yes. And she can be a appropriate now. It totally works.
Like this completely works. I love that she's in here. I know she was in the Netflix series. Oh no.
That was a. No, that was a. That was a mistake. That was a mistake.
Wow. I keep wanting to put Monica Rambo in here. I know. I have nothing with that.
Yeah. That's my wish fulfillment right there. They got everybody together. Yeah, well that would be nice.
But still, she's in there now. And that gives us another at least street level character. Yeah. Well, no.
Well, Monica could still be photon and get cosmic. She could. But I don't think they'll do that because that'll. Well, you know, who knows?
Or they'll never put her in. I mean, you know, scrolls are good. I bet she will have gotten snapped. Oh, yeah.
Right now, at least. Yeah, we got to make the stage. We got to give every stakes in this next movie. Yeah, I mean, like her stakes are already there.
