Alright, let's get on with the show. Waiting down upon the underworld to smash gangland, come a friend of the unfortunate enemy of criminal. In a serious, powerful character, a problem to the police, but a good state of law. Hello, everyone, welcome off to Rackhamself.
That's Tiffany. So today we're gonna be talking about some books that came out this past week that we enjoyed or did enjoy. We're gonna review books that came out this past week. And then give you recommendations for books that come out this week.
We need to get you to pick up. Yeah. We already introduced ourselves. Yeah, we did.
Great. Listen, we're gonna snow, so I'm checked out. You got snow on the brain. You got snow on the brain.
No, I'm not checked out. I'm here. No, I'm checked into this. Yes.
I mean, non-stop comic-pop action, because your day job will be snowed out. That's right. Internet doesn't get snow days. What?
I want a snow day. Well, you're just gonna have to wait. Wow. Okay.
Alright, let's do it. Right? Let's do it. Yeah.
Can't make it happen. But yeah, so alright, some books came out this week. The one that I want to talk about that I was the cover for this book, but I don't think it's really that big. Okay.
People aren't really talking about it too much. Sure. Is Daredevil, got re-launched under Chips the Darski with art by Marco Chitato? That's a great name.
I've said it a lot over these several years, and I feel like, I don't know why. Like, every time I think, oh, Marco Chitato, I know that name. I go, what do I know what that name for? Like, why do I know him from something?
Yeah. I don't have any idea. I can't place it at all. That being said, getting into the art for this book before I get into what actually happens in it.
The art's really good. Chitato does a nice job with character and portraying a kind of like cinematic looking book, but it's not one of those kind of cinematic books where it's like, I know how to draw storyboards, but I don't know, comics or shit. No, it actually looks like a comic book and everybody's really proportionate and everything. And it's pretty cool.
Matt looks weird. I guess. Like he looks too ruggedly handsome. Well, isn't he?
I guess, but I never pictured him being this ruggedly handsome. Well, he is. I don't know. He ever does, just awakens something in me.
I didn't expect to be so attracted to Daredevil. I don't know what it is now, but it's got to be the artist, right? Because it's not me. I thought the art is beautiful in this book.
It was great. It was really, really beautiful. And it's like this really great moment in the book with Young Matt, which is like a tight on his face, and it's up, and it's just the shading's really excellent. Just really, really good.
You are correct on that assessment, or at least that I agree with you, I should say. Thank you. It's not correct. It's about criticism.
But I do like it. And as far as the writing is concerned, Chipps, it already won me over. He pushed me away with his Howard the Duck, which by the way, engendered him to a lot of people because his work on Howard the Duck is celebrated as one of the best runs in Howard the Duck in history, which will be put to the test when the Howard the Duck Hulu animated series written by Kevin Smith comes out. I don't know if you knew about that.
But Hulu is rolling out with a whole bunch of different Hulu centric animated shows, which includes Dazzler and Tigra. Is that going to be together? They're going to be together. Moduck.
Howard the Duck and something else. I don't remember what, but they will all team up in a combined show called The Offenders. At least it's Moduck and not Mojo. That's true, but I would love a Mojo show.
I would not. That's coming. I think the reality is that Dazzler and Tigra, the reason why it's Dazzler is because I'll bet Marvel had a deal with Disney purchase Fox. I think the idea is that that's why you're not getting X-Men shows and why it's not Mojo.
It is Moduck. My hope is that Moduck is a show that is like Space Coast Coast Coast, where it's like a talk show. Moduck's or Moduck's? Moduck's.
Moduck's should be a show like The Muppet Show, but for the Marvel Universe. It's just a production out of control. All right, so is the show right now. Why don't we talk about Daredevil?
All right, so Jeff Starsky and Jennifer Seltier, a lot of people with his incredible work. By the way, he's a great artist as well. Did the art on sex criminals, didn't he? Yes.
And I always forget that because I like his work in the writing. Yes. And this was fine. I thought it was cool.
It didn't blow the doors off for me. I thought it was a very fine Daredevil book. I know this was really excellent. And it seems to be coming up with that little like in-betweenies series that they did.
But you enjoyed very much. Yeah. Well, the idea being that Charles Sol broke Daredevil and then the interim series, I think it was a man with no fear, fixed hymns. Yeah, to some degree.
To some degree. Right. And now we've got Daredevil and he's back, but he's not quite 100%. He's got to get himself back together.
We do get a couple of cool Daredevil trappings. We get mad as a boy connecting with a priest. That's always very fun. We've got Matt being a player.
Sleeping with chicks. That actually happens and it's pretty fun. And it's actually really soberingly real. Yes.
Which was really interesting to see. Matt is kind of a jerk, which I really enjoy. And of course we get Matt being Daredevil and the world where the kingpin is mayor and he's cracking down on costume superheroes. Which is honestly a phenomenon that I hadn't really felt in the Marvel Universe.
I remember when Jonah was mayor for a while. And that you could feel Jonah Jameson being the mayor. In this, kingpin has been mayor and I have not really noticed outside of what soul was doing in his wrap up for Daredevil. And this now, it's also in Spencer's Spider-Man.
I'm going to say you can talk about that like that stuff. Well it's in that run, but who cares. The plot point about kingpin being Daredevil or kingpin being the mayor in Spider-Man is that he's using it trying to piss Spider-Man against his fellow superheroes. Again, not feeling that anywhere else though.
Okay. But it's great to see all the major key players being used properly. Okay. And like I said, I enjoyed the issue.
I didn't think it was going to be like as table flipping as I expected. Like you see images of Daredevil with fire and you have the implication of Daredevil dying in the last series and you're like, what's going to happen? Like is Daredevil going to get cosmic? Is he going to go like, you know, ghost rider?
Like what's going to happen with Daredevil? Or we're going to do something that's just so unexpected. And it's more like a total return to form. Which by the way, if you're like a hardcore Daredevil fan, you're like, thank you.
Or at least you must be because it is straight up true to form. Daredevil stuff. Right. I mean here's the thing that every time they don't have to do the character, they can't just become a ghost rider.
I'm just saying, you know, it's a dope looking image. It is. And then you have to be like, whatever, if you're bereft of ideas, turn them into a ghost rider. And it will sell like hotcakes or flaming hellfire hotcakes.
So. Not as good as Amaze Weekcakes, but fine. Certainly not. But you know, they're their own charm.
Right. I enjoyed this a lot. I read it right before. I was like, we started.
Yeah. I know, I like that I dug it. I like Zardzki's pacing. Right.
Storytelling and the way he weaves in flashback sequences. Definitely. It's just, it's very, I don't know, it's charming. Yeah.
When you see Daredevil for the first time, his boots are different. Yeah. Okay. He stuffs his pants into his boots.
Yes. And you get some flaring. Yeah. I've never seen that with a Darrynal cop.
I noticed that when he was like, yeah, when he was leaving and his legs extended. I was like, oh, look at that. That's neat. And then I noticed it for the rest of the book.
I'm like, this is interesting. Perhaps it's a trend. Maybe it's a new boot Marvel Renaissance. Remember when Captain America got the fucking ear boots and then Cyclops had the fucking ears?
Then they've rolled it back because John Bird didn't like the fucking ear boots. Maybe it's a whole new boot thing for Marvel. I don't know. Mhm.
That's right. I'm so glad they tuned and keep your eyes glued to Zadarski's Daredevil. That's right. To see the future of Marvel bootology in the superhero community.
I'm excited. You sound it. It's very cool. It's very cool.
So would you recommend this book? Yeah, totally. If you are on the fence by Daredevil, check it out. If you love Daredevil, check it out.
You really love it. Yeah. But if you are like, I don't like Daredevil, but I like Daredevil enough, but I want to see him become something totally different. Don't pick this up.
That's not the same thing. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Daredevil book. But in a good way, you know, it's for me, Marvel 2-in-ONE. That was a great book.
I never. I want to be though. I'm just saying, because I love Daredevil. I just want to be excited.
Yeah, I understand. By the way, as we transition to the next thing, I wanted to point out, we are going to be delving into the super chats a little bit, answering some questions and addressing some of the amazing people in the chat on this live version of the show. If you want to participate yourself, just use the super chats and you'll hit your question and you'll get your answer here on the show live. The reason why we do it and we don't just answer every question is one, Jack goes like a mile a minute, two, the super chats help us keep a roof over our heads and pay the bills.
I paid some sweet even bills today because it's a tax time. And let me tell you, your contributions helped significantly. The tax man come back. Yeah, he does.
Well, we're going to keep him away. I'm going to mail him shit. He doesn't come to my house. But I price 80, 40, for example.
So something awoke inside Sal to attract him to Daredevil. No, don't become a lecturer. No, yes, exactly. If you want to know what he's talking about, watch back issues, Marlman like Spider-Man.
You'll see that you'll get the joke. Mr. Roboto isn't Murdoch living in San Francisco? No, he's back in Hell's Kitchen.
And he is setting down roots, man. So no, that was a very small period of time in Daredevil history. We went to San Fran. And Kevin Kruger, so Sal, you're my hero when I grow up, I want to be like you.
I told your horse and my friends. But I don't want to watch Gilmore Girls. Fuck that. And also, how about getting Tiffany Smith on the show?
Well, there's a lot on pack. First of all, I appreciate your support. But I must say, you don't want to be like me. Be your own man.
Because I appreciate it, but no. There's only one me. And you don't want to do this. You don't want to watch Gilmore Girls.
That's too bad, man. Because you've watched the first six seasons or four seasons of Gilmore Girls. You can skip the revival. And Tiffany Smith would never touch the show with a 10-foot pole.
But regardless of that, we got 100% enough Tiffany's as it is. Thanks. So thank you very much for being our resident Tiffany. Oh, please.
I've got to check a box. No, no, no. You created the box. Because you predate Tiffany Smith, like quite a bit.
Do I? I think so. I think you do in technical internet points. But in terms of being a comic book personality.
There you go. And two months, one takes a six-hour sentence to $75,000. We did get $75,000. $75,000 is just around the corner question.
Do you think heroes and crimes will have a happy ending? As much as Tom King is capable of writing, I think so. I think it will have a, no, I don't think it's going to have a happy ending. It's going to be miserable.
But it's also going to set up more things. Like it won't have an ending. I think it's going to be like, oh, look at the future of these universe. Isn't it fun?
So no, I don't. But yeah, by the way, we had a thing out there when we did our 75K live show. We were like, hey, if we had 100,000 subscribers by the 20th of February, me, Ben, and Ethan, or Ben, Ethan, and I will jump into a lake on the 23rd of February. Because Deunville is doing a polar plunge.
That's a town nearby us. It's our P.O. That's our P.O. Boxes.
That's why it's related. But they're doing a polar plunge. And so if we inexplicably make 25,000 subscribers in the next two weeks, I don't see happening. But even if it did, we're a man of our word, we will jump in.
The reason why it's going to be men of our word is because Tiffany's not going to do it. But she will film it. Yeah. So what would be...
But Tiffany's not going to do it. I think I legitimately would have a problem. Like a medical problem. You have a problem when we're like, hey, the Jersey Shore is 70 degrees.
Oh my God. This is amazing. It never gets to be. I know.
You literally looked at me and I'm like, I'm going to find you. You're blue. I'm like, I'm okay. It's insane.
But yeah, so that's your charge out there. Get as many people as you can. And you'll see me and Ben and Ethan get really sick and really, really cold. You're ditching the braid?
Yeah. Does it hurt? No. It's a tired feeling of hat on my head.
You think it would just be ignored. But no. Rusky 9-1-1-0 says, hey guys, which creators do you think of blood into their own hype the most? I think we talked about a couple already.
So I'll just leave it at that. But moving on from Daredevil, there's a couple other books that came out that we read. What's one that you read? Oh, I read.
I'm not going to go super in-depth into it, but I just want to mention Die continues to go on. And I said that in a way where I might because it's not good. No, it's very, very excellent. I really like this book.
I'm like here in dealing with Arvers Stephanie Hans. It's just a really cool, like, story, like, Jumanji style story, but focusing on D&D. And instead of it has like this sort of feel to it to get started off as an adventure as they were kids and they were stuck to this world and they came back out and like so much time had passed and now their adults have it again. Yeah, I'm already telling this to you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So very cool. Very cool, but for real. For what?
But actually really cool. This issue is still just a school. They talk about the idea of being an adventurer in one of these games. If you ever play D&D, they have been dozens of dragons.
Who would go into a dungeon? It's a dungeon. Yeah. So it's to track people in the dungeon and then the other time, this whole world is the dungeon.
And then it's talking about dragons and dragons and shows up. And this world building is really neat because it's done in this meta kind of way where the person who created this world is someone who would make references because they're supposedly from reality. You know what I mean? So they can make all these references.
So in this we see a fantasy crossover with World War I or II kind of thing where they have these hobbit individuals. They're like one of them. And they're being used to like, they're a small squadron in the words. They hate me.
The thing, foxhole kind of thing. Yeah, the French. Yes. The French is.
That they would sneak in after like a larger attack had happened and clear the way and nobody actually clears the way in social disaster. Right. There's like, like, mustard gas style. It's very safe and private Ryan, but with the full of folks.
Okay. It's just kind of neat. It's like a sad, sobering world, even though it's fantasy and magic. Fantastic, a little magic.
So kind of cool. So check out the eye. Yeah. Only four issues, four or three?
Great. So I just really like really cool art. Totally. We haven't talked about this book in a while.
And I would really like to, because I was recommended this issue by quite people. It is uncanny X-Men number 11. Yeah, but we recommended it. Yes, I did from Rosenberg and the Raka.
This is a post. All the X-Men are dead world, but Cyclops made it. Spoilers for extermination. Well, he's on the cover.
He's on the cover. But Cyclops made it from the underworld or where the hell he came from. The idea is that like we're seeing Cyclops is now back, but everybody else is dead. So we watch how Cyclops like navigates this world and how in the wake of there being no more X-Men.
The US government basically or the world's, we see it through the lens of the US government. But I think the idea is that like everybody, everybody jumps on the like, okay, well, there's no more defenders of mutant kind. So let's fast track some mutant vaccines and everything possible. And it's very X-Men in terms of plot where it's like the world sucks and everyone is a jerk.
And the mutants have become even more second-class citizens than ever before. Ever since House of End. Okay. So it's interesting to see that.
The story is basically watching Cyclops react to that. Even though we've been watching Cyclops do that since Cyclops finally was right according to the Internet. And so it was kind of like, I've seen this already. But it was interesting because Cyclops is not trying to be the next Magneto in this.
He's like trying to chill out. He wants to get to the bottom of it. It's like, okay, hang on, let's just take a minute here. I'm not distracted by Jean and I'm just wolverine taking Jean away from me.
That's great. I don't feel the pressure of Professor X or leading. No, because I killed him and he's still dead. No, I mean, I'm just gonna have a coffee and he's still mad and he's still like, he tries to get his bearings and get the gang back together because a couple of mutants haven't died.
This would include like Jamie Madrox and several other key components who are not like fan favorite members, but definitely characters that are necessary to advance the plot to the point where X-Men can try and achieve Jim Lee's status of like X-Men prominence in the moment. The story meanders, but it is an epic story where like Cyclops basically reacts to the worlds like, oh, they're like mom and dad are watching. Let's see what we do. And it sucks.
And it's sad. It doesn't suck. The book is good. It's a sad view.
There's a big anti-Newton rally. Cyclops is there. Just to like kind of get it. You go, the counterpoint.
What about you guys being total douchebags? Captain America shows up and he's like, I had a feeling you were gonna be here. And like, it's like, well, I mean, come on. But you get the whole like Avengers vs.
X-Men thing again and completely throw out the whole like mutant squad that Cap tried to form in the wake of ABX. So that Captain America looked like a dick in X-Men book. Ultimately Cyclops issues a challenge that any remaining mutants should meet him where it all began, which is of course is the smoking crater of the Exeter School. Mutants are X-Men.
Well, if you're a New York X-Men, that's according to Cyclops. And like all of the anti-Newton organizations that have ever existed show up to kill him. And then Wolverine shows up. And Cyclops and Wolverine team up and thinks.
Well, that's fun. And it is fun. And it's kind of like, oh, look at the team it up. I was mentioning the challenge where it's like, there's a lot of heat in the show up and it's awesome.
And I'd be like, if I were in the view and so I'd be like, damn it. It's paper cuts and beef. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, where was that? Yeah.
Where they all began? I don't know. How would I know? Yeah.
That's like the end of Shawshank. You remember the name of the town, don't you? Oh. I was gonna say that Patreon is showing giving total deja vu to that good bad ugly Cyclops comic that we read.
Completely. Like, I was like, holy crap I've seen this before. It's Cyclops in a bed and breakfast. In the snow talking to a cute chick.
Ultimately, this is a quintessential X-Men book. This is an X-Men book for X-Men fans. And it's also like really long. There's a lot more.
There's extra pages and shit. It does kill a few characters but ultimately it is setting the X-Men on the path that I was expecting since Uncanny X-Men number one. But haven't quite seen yet. The art leaves me in the cold a little bit.
It's not great. Yeah, it was fine. It seemed fine. If it was great or if it was Pepe Larraz or Imanin or anybody, it would be like, oh, I feel excited because here's the thing.
It's not necessarily a hot take so much that it's just like an opinion from a 90s X-Men fan. The X-Men is 70% message, 30% art. And 30% is very heavy. Like, if you don't have that 30%, it topples over and doesn't work.
And if the X-Men don't have a message and they don't have a point, then it's going to be boring. But if the art isn't great, it's not quite there. The X-Men don't work. The X-Men need to have excellent art on them at all times.
But it doesn't. You get books that are like, eh, excellent. It's true though. So anyway, I recommend if you're an X-Men fan, but I would also like come to expect better art in an X-book.
Okay, that's fair. So you gotta get back going. I'm hoping that this is all kind of like just a stepping stone for the true new Renaissance of the X-Men. So I see this is kind of like transitional period.
Okay, sorry. They're getting there. They're getting there. Exactly.
Did you read Justice League number 17? I didn't. You did not. It's by Scott Snyder and Jim Chung.
It's a big retcon flashback. I mean, I also didn't even see it. You didn't? No.
I grabbed Daredevil. I was like, oh, he's been talking about Daredevil. I already daredevil. You would have loved it.
It's all Jean Jones. The two of them have a clandestine meeting of the minds. Jean invites him. The next is Jean.
Jean knows he's gonna do that. Jean basically reveals his history and how a brilliant yet terrible mad scientist plucked Jean as a child from the past and brought him to Earth and kept him as a prisoner. They were planning on experimenting on him. There's a little boy who is part of the experiment family, part of the scientist's family, who is able to communicate with Jean using hidden messages in his clothes and ultimately through telepathy.
He doesn't have telepathy. He doesn't have telepathy. The powers, they know Jean does. The two of them go on little missions together and they play and they play and they play and they play.
Basically the only thing each other has in the whole world. And then ultimately the little boy finds out that Jean is going to be executed and so he encourages Jean to go. And he threw fun Shikari in the story which you should read. So once he doesn't do the thing where he's like, get out of here.
I hate you. Like you would a dog trying to get it to. Yeah, no, that does not happen. Save himself.
But anyway, the idea is that Jean is sent back to where he was so that he can grow up on Mars and have a life in it. Apparently the stream died. Give it a minute. Give it a minute.
It might be okay. Give it a second. Oh, no, we're good. See?
Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I'm looking right at it. But in any case, so Jean reveals to Lex that the little boy was him.
The next Luther is Jean Jones's childhood friend. Didn't they do that in a Superman story? Yeah. It's an alternate one.
Yeah. Okay. But they did it in this. Okay.
And so Jean and Lex are friends and they like fight some like. How would when he always like. No, because something erased their memories. And like it may have impacted Luther's father to have lost his ability to like have agency and that's why you're coming to alcoholic and a bastard.
And like Lex lost his youth in his sense because it was erased from him. Yeah. Anyway, so it's a total retcon of Lex Luther's history in past. And if you like that kind of thing, you're going to love this.
If you don't, you're going to be like, what? How does this fit? Doesn't work? It doesn't make any sense.
Oh, okay. That's kind of weird. I think that's some super justice. Yeah, we did.
But it's a retcon to make it so that Jean is really important and also totally connected to Luther. Probably because Bendis has lots of Superman plans and Snyder can't use him. It's my meta reading of this. Oh, interesting.
But that being said, it's a really fun story and it's very like heartfelt. Chung's art is great and it's a cute little story and I really didn't care. Like I wasn't like in terms of I didn't have a problem with it. I enjoyed it and I was like, that's right.
Kind of doesn't seem to make any sense, but I don't care. Like I'm not going to argue with it. Whatever. Let yourself do it.
Have fun. Have fun. Just have a nice time. It worked for me.
So I enjoyed it and it's here's the deal. Snyder's given the keys. So if you don't like it, you're not going to like DC for a long time because like Snyder is repainting the cosmology of his life. He's going to be painting the cosmology of DC and he's going to give everybody, like everybody who's in this book has some crucial role to play for the foreseeable future.
So get into it. If you don't, you're going to be left in the cold from DC for a while. Alright. So there you have it.
That's fair. But like I said, it's a fun read. It feels like a filler. It feels like the kind of book that Snyder would have given to James time before.
But instead, Snyder wrote it. There you go. There you go. So you were right.
Some superchats did occur and we should address them. Mr. Are you from the Spider-Verse? Maybe.
Not sure. Not sure. They do go with them more likes. Oh no, Cyclops try to get clips though and she's like get the hell away from me.
We hate you. You're the worst. He's like ohh. ṣ !
okay, before I was doing a different opinion. probably. Yeah, she's here even more. She'll see you.
And Kevin Meyer says I heard there was another hero in Far From Home. That's by men's next movie. Popular idea is that it would be strange, but I think it may surprise us with Daredevil. Love you guys.
Dude, I would love it to be strange. For me it's strange. I love the Peter Parker Doctor Strange relationship in comics and I like what they started doing in Avengers. Yes.
Granted that we don't know, I mean like I assumed happens after Avengers or maybe have some four Avengers but it has four Avengers that can't be not strange because then he introduces himself. So. Yup. How does Doctor Strange be raised as a memory?
Seriously, I want Daredevil and the MCU so bad I don't care what movie he appears in. That's where I made a joke about how like Black Widow the movie got some delays so it will be filming until June. I was like maybe it's because they're working it out so that Charlie Cox can be there to win that movie because like who doesn't want Daredevil to win a Black Widow movie. Right.
But who doesn't want him to win anything? Let's get Charlie Cox, let's get Daredevil, let's get him out for you. Let's get this done. Yeah.
Yeah. But yeah. So yeah. So my theory is you won't see Doctor Strange in this.
Maybe it will be Spider-Man in Doctor Strange too. Okay. I would take that and I'll take it. I'll take it.
I'll take it. I'll take it. Either because I really like you. I really want to see Pete and Steve because they're both city boys.
Yep. Yep. They are. It's just they have very different charges and yes.
It's just I always like how much heart Spider-Man has and have strange can't help but like admire that. Look at you. Look at you go. How does your spider-man's work?
I don't think it's sense. It's like look was like anything you do make sense. I'm I'm magic. I don't have to explain it.
So yeah. What other books did you read on your own? I don't know. I'll buy myself.
I'll buy yourself. Gold Star. I read The Dreaming Number Six which came out this past week written by Simon Spurrier by Bill Kiss-Evely. I always hope I'm saying that correctly.
You know probably. No it's true. No one has argued. No one has argued.
No one has ever given us a hard time. This is seemingly sort of summing up what might be the first arc of the Dreaming series. A lot of questions are answered a lot more mysteries are revealed. We deal with Judge Gallows in a really fun way.
We get to know Dora a little bit more and find out that she's in fact not an endless as far as we know. That's right. You were like annoyed that that was gonna happen. Right.
And the thing that's born isn't endless either. It's like some sort of AI thing. Like a robot. It seems to think as an AI it doesn't know what it is.
Fair enough. And it creates an a form for itself. Okay. It tries to like it researches things that should look like and it's just like oh I said that lunar mods are adorable.
It makes us have a lunar month but it has like a chibi version of Dora's face. It's really messed up looking. And Dora's like there's nothing cute about anything that you're doing right now. This is not cute.
You should stop right now. Yeah. But it seems that the next issue they hinted at is going to be not following that story. We're gonna take a quick little breather and go talk about Dream a little more.
Totally. So I was like okay. Good because he left. So let's look at him.
Well he left but seemingly he's also dying. Oh yeah that's right. So I'm interested to see. And you're kind of like well dude get out of here.
Bye. Bye Daniel. Goodbye. You know his his reign has been longer than Morpheus's.
Well yeah but he's done anything. Well that's true. Well then because nobody wants to do anything with him because he was really boring. Just like me.
Daniel Hall. No one finds me interesting. Overall though this issue has really started to win me over more so I have enjoyed it. I know you kind of dipped a little bit in your enthusiasm for it.
I did. I'm trying to shoot four or five. Yeah only because it's I don't know. It seemed like they were putting too much emphasis on Dora but I don't think he'd be shaving out a little differently.
Dora is still me character though right? Well yeah. Fair enough. Alright so it's a recommendation.
I mean this is not the book to start with. Well you can get seven and start. Yeah but I would start with one. Yeah probably.
Yeah. Maybe we have a tree at this point. Oh definitely. But it's silly.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm telling you something that says why can't I write Superboy?
That'd be a good book. Yeah. He doesn't want to. No.
And I don't mean that from like you know because he told me it's just more like it's not right any book he wants. So if he's not doing it it's because he doesn't want to. There you go. And music and other stuff.
I like that. It says just got my first job after college. Congratulations man. That is hard to do.
That's incredible. It was so hard for me. I just had to create a job. No but seriously congratulations.
That is no small accomplishment. No and he wanted to give his first paycheck to us. Well. Well.
Well it's first paycheck. Yeah. Well thank you very much. Yeah part of it.
Thank you. No no hang on to it. Don't give me the paycheck. Thank you very much.
I'll take a portion. Yeah why not. But thank you so much man. Yeah.
Yeah. So yeah. Your recommendation. What is that one?
Do you? I got one more book. Okay. Mine's awesome.
Oh cool. Mine's not. It's called Young Us Number Two. It's written by Brian McAlbany.
I thought by Patrick Gleason. This first issue I liken to the new Avengers because it was very similar in tone and execution. You watch the teams all get together and well the team form and watch Ben does play with character and dialogue and stuff and you basically do the same thing. Oh no.
Amethyst's reign over Gemworld may in fact be threatened by upstarts and usurpers but then Amethyst teams over the Robin because Robin got separated from the team and sent a Gemworld in the last issue and poor Patrick Gleason has to draw Tim Drake in the old school 90s Tim Drake Robin suit which is more or less been approximated to be Damien's suit. So throughout the book it looks like Damien but it's not Tim Drake. So I'm sorry that's very distracting. But I've been waiting to see Tim Drake in his old duds forever so I'm glad to see it.
Also Jenny Hex and Teen Lantern run into Wonder Girl. Okay. They're all stuck in general. Okay.
And oh no. Like Jenny is all root and tuten and six gun shooting very like abrasive. Will these girls get along? It's probably.
This book is aimed at a younger audience. It's a key fan in perspective. It is but like I need like okay the problem with the new Avengers versus this is like new Avengers right like oh no we'll lose Cage's Spider-Man get along. I know who both those characters are.
Jenny Hex nobody knows who they are because you just invented them. Teen Lantern nobody knows who that is you just invented her. Wonder Girl nobody knows who that is because her origins are complicated and nobody uses her anyway. Right well I mean then you got like a whole like the magical girl kind of meet up then where it's just like girl and girl and then all the personalities I love that idea.
If Young Justice was Sailor Moon in the DC universe that's a pitch. That's Gen World the book. That's not what this is. Then we get a big old flashback to Wonder Girl fighting Despero and then bumping into Zeus and Zeus wants to give her a special magical artifact and Wonder Girl's like no I'm tired of men giving me an magical object.
I'm gonna find agency and earn it myself. Zeus is like that doesn't make any goddamn sense but okay I'm gonna leave now. Sure. Wonder Girl pats up on the back and then the trio of girls bump into Amethyst and Robin just in time for Opal of Gen World to say he's gonna kick their ass.
He'll probably get punched in the nuts and then lose because that's how Benda's words. But like we it's all been carried on like Zippy Zappy Zippy and then like Opal of Gen World like hey I'm the bad guy of this book and you know it's like but Benda doesn't care about that shit. So you know it's gonna be like again like it's a cute idea that has merit and has been proven to work because Benda's has a career. Yeah I don't think this issue was nearly as good as the first one but there might be potential in the future.
