Alright, let's get on with the show. Weeding down upon the underworld to smash gangland, from a friend of the unfortunate, enemy of criminal, in a serious, whole powerful character, a problem to the police, but a true state of law. Hello, Keystone Comic-Cime! And welcome to the official Comic-Pop panel.
I am Sal. I'm Ethan. I'm Ben. I'm Tiffany.
So we're gonna be talking to you guys a little bit about Batman's costumes, because Ben, the winner of our Keystone Comic-Con passes... Ben, Mario, not me. It's Ben here. Yay!
Whoo! You submitted a great suggestion. It's Batman's best costumes across the spectrum. That's video games, comics, TV, movies, etc.
So we're gonna share some of our favorites, some of the best. And that's gonna be like half slash the first fourth of the panel, and then the rest is gonna be all comic-pop all the time. Come on, actually. Come on, actually.
3D. Can you wait a while not on the video, but like certainly in real life, at least that's the plan. But when we talk about the channel, your favorite stuff, we'll be answering questions in there. We'll take half an hour to answer each one.
Yeah. Did you guys prepare yours? A little bit. Yeah.
I did a little research frantically last night. You should go first then. Well, I look up some costumes real quick. Yeah.
I'm totally prepared. I have a bunch, and I can just throw them out. But I wanna hear that you guys first. Yeah, you go last night.
Because you might take one of mine. That's true. I mean, I only have one. Wow, what is it?
I'm champing at the bid here. Yeah. George Clooney. Bad nipples.
Nice. Now. No. It's a joke.
So when you're a microphone, you're off the team. They almost turn on you. They're like, is this a joke? It better be a joke.
We have to go. I looked at it online. Yeah. There's the one at the end where it's got all the silver.
Yeah. That one's horrible. But the one at the beginning where it's almost like Batman? Yeah.
It's just pretty normal for the movies. Yeah. So man, remember in Batman Forever when he welcomed a war, like a Batman suit? Like in the very first hit two minutes.
And then it's like, oh, and then he's like, oh, how about it sucks? Yeah. No, my real one is actually Batman V Superman, the like power suit. Oh.
Oh, it's Superman. Like I'm not a huge fan of that movie, but I love that suit. It's just a rip off of dark night returns. Power suit, but it actually like came out really good.
Yeah. The glowing like blue eyes. Yeah. Yeah.
That's awesome. I don't blame you there. When it comes to movies, I'm sure I'm going to have the same as Ben. But my favorite bat suit from the movies is Bert 89.
I think it's- I had to get out of the way for the high five. You knew it. I'm coming. Even if you couldn't hear it because it sucked.
I like that suit a lot. Not only just because it was the first time you saw Batman for real on a screen. As opposed to like, a West Batman. You're like, no.
I remember even as a kid at a West suit. I'm like, why did he like etch eyebrows into the costume? That sucks. Bert and suit, it's like, it's head to toe black.
There's one or there's actually two slashes called it as a belt. Which I think is also like, it's never been more iconic. Even though it makes no sense. Like that weird buckle in the front that like has no logo, no nothing.
It's just a weird odd, like slitted belt. Like this is a cool- it's just a great solid distillation of like Batman. Especially fitting into the Bert universe. It's dark.
It's scary. I had to wear it when I used to do costumes and kill into kids' birthday parties. And then also I have a special affinity for it. And there were sticks that like, like wooden dowels on the edge of the cape.
So when you like went like that, the cape like furr rolled out. So it actually got like straight out. That was pretty cool. Yeah.
There were a couple of things that helped me with that. I was tall for my age. I think I was like 13 when I did that party. And it's the suit.
It had that terrible weird logo where it's like that weird like, it's a bat-loops and then another loop. Because we're Hollywood. We got a little stamp on it. Can't just be Batman.
Even though by the way, a logo with all of the Batman movie is the regular Batman logo. And then he has a different logo on his chest. I like how you're like slowly nicking away. And also you can see his eyes and he has a raccoon and it's stupid.
Actually if the worst one, actually it's the worst one. All of them it's probably the worst. It's a big job. Wait, what's the most important?
No, I didn't know that was part of the criteria. I guess. I did all of them. I did all of them.
I did one for you. I just kicked things and I thought look cool. Okay, well let's hear them then. You want me to just finish the rest?
I'll just jump on that. No, no, no. We'll go through. Everyone gets one and then we'll keep going on that.
I'm going to go into this kind of like, I'm going to wait into this because it was kind of already mentioned. But like the armor from Dark Knight Returns. I love that suit and what it stands for. I love it standing for him being like, I have to fight a god.
I can't fight a god. I need a helmet. Yeah, like the helmet the whole thing. It's just so iconic, especially with the redesign.
Frankly, I was a version of him being so broad. I'm like, with the shorter bat ears. It's just everything about him is he's just a wall of a man and then you put him in this armor and I'm just like, that doesn't mean stopable force. Yeah.
Meaning in a movie. I guess he's a movie object. He's a movie object. And he's a movie.
Yeah. I just really like that suit a lot. Yeah, I love that suit. Continue with this theme apparently because this is actually really cool.
I also love the armor but it's from Corvalles when the Talons are attacking the Wayne Manor and they're in the Batcave and he seals himself inside and he comes out in that battle armor to take him on because he was absolutely ripped apart by just one Talon. And then all of them are attacking is like, okay, well it's fight for my life or die. And then he comes out and that thing is just like red and smoking. He's like, all right.
That line of my house. That line of my house. That's so dope. So that is my favorite armor that I've seen.
Nice. As far as the video games go, do you guys have any favorite video games costumes? I mean, the Arkham one in general, the original. It's pretty cool.
It's just cool. Yeah. For me, in the Arkham games it's the Neil Adams skin because it's so weird to see it against the Arkham universe. What are you talking about?
It totally fits in the Arkham universe. That's blue and grey. I love the Neil Adams suit but I love it the most. But it's like, everything's dark and distressed and wet and then Neil Adams bat and then he flies and it's blue and you're like, that's kind of cool.
I just see it like in real, like how he's like, it's a real man inside of it. That's really cool. So how do you feel about the hush one? In the game?
No, not like just in general. The suit he wore in hush? Yeah, it's kind of like, I like it but I miss the yellow in the distance. I mean, you're going to say that because I put that on my list because I don't, I got to tell you, like the yellow just doesn't do it for me.
Yeah. So like, I liked that version of it without it. Yeah, it's basically the blue suit. Yeah.
But with a black patch. Yeah. Yeah. No, that's, it's sweet.
Yeah. What is wrong with the hush batman suit? There's no yellow in it. Ah, what's hush?
It's his. Exactly. Oh, it's my laundry suit. But in the comics, I got to say like one of my favorite bat suits slash armors is Batman's suit from Kingdom Come.
The like kind of exo suit that he needs to wear because his body's all like kind of mangled and broken and then I'm going back to like that moment when it's Bruce flying in to rescue, like to red to back up Superman and it's like him, you know, flying to the valkyries is playing and it's just like this is awesome. Like, and you see that look at his face and it's like old Batman, they're smiling. He's like, I'm finally out. I'm finally myself again.
Like that's so cool. It's just perfection. You didn't put the Azeralee suit on there? No, I'm not.
But the Azerale suit on there, believe it or not. Of course, if you ask about the nightfall suit, you got to be like, which one? Is it the one with the sharp jub-gauntlets and then the regular Jim-a-paro suit? Is it the like, joke-as-a-designed blue?
I wish I were spawned suit? Or is it the like, Azerale adds more things to him every day and now he's red and he's got big golden bells on his shoulders? Well, obviously, it's just anything he finds. Yeah, just stop.
Oh, that's going on the suit. Bam, done. It's not raining. It's just, it's a muffin.
It's a muffin. That's a muffin. That's a muffin. That's a muffin.
That's a muffin. That's a muffin. That's a muffin. That's a muffin.
That's a muffin. That's a muffin. That's a muffin. That's going to rot.
That's fine. It's actually cool. I'm like, rot. I'm like, rot.
Why is that? Eventually, it's funny that's to evolve to the point where he couldn't find room for the bat symbol. It was like, you're a batman. He's like, you know who I am?
It's like a little story. It is. He pushed Batman completely out of. Exactly.
It would be amazing if Bruce had not cured himself and then actually beaten him. The one in Kingdom Come. The one in Justice. Oh, yeah.
And this is the interesting thing because if anyone has not read Justice, I'm about to spoil it for you. The one in Justice. So we didn't put a warning on this panel. I know.
The metallic armor that everyone wears going into battle. You see these amazing costumes that were designed and the bat one in Superman suit. They're all wearing different people. So it's a trick as to who they are.
So technically, Batman is in Superman's armor. Superman is in Batman's armor. Did you say they're all wearing different people? Yeah.
I did. Well, you know. I meant it. I meant it.
I just want to circle back around to that one. But the one that is designed that looks like Batman in the armor. Oh, it's so cool. That's how it's Ross too.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good old Alteras.
You can't see it. That's cool. For another comic book one. Red Sun Superman Batman.
Yay. I love Batman cough. I love Batman cough. We're all this with the fact that the gun is there and all that stuff.
I love the look of that suit. It's like undeniably Batman. But like, yeah. Like a little Russian.
Like a little Russian. Like a little Russian. Yeah. It's like a little Russian.
Yeah. It's like a little Russian. Yeah. It's like a little Russian.
Yeah. That's hilarious. It's like so stupid for me to have a Batman cusp. That's like yes.
You're like the proletariat. Like at the same time, like it's just so cool looking. That's so like like I can't be like, oh, it's just cool. I don't agree with anything he is but cool looking.
But that's fine. Yeah. It's why we have anything. Although that being said, like Red Sun Superman, you know, he's like yes.
He becomes a superman and it's like that kind of cool. He still works. He comes around. This dude for me.
That's fine. You're honoring him whatever. Yes. Alright.
Also, this is just basically on looks alone, right? Right. The hell tonight. I like the wings, personally.
I think that's awesome. I like the red because I think of Batman Beyond. It's just a good color combination, and I just like the look of it. That's it.
I just like how it looks. It's just cool. It's a totally dope suit. I love when it comes back in Superman Rebirth.
With Lois puts it on. To protect her son. That's totally awesome. It's awesome.
It's really cool. Yeah. Speaking of Batman Beyond, this was actually one of my distillights, from the video game in the Arkham City, where you've had that skin. Oh, the Batman Beyond Skin and the Arkham Eye.
It broke the fourth wall of like, this is a cartoon in a real world. It doesn't translate quite as well as it does in the cartoon. Wait, the Batman Beyond Skin? No, it does, because he sees butt.
It's a little less scary in a series about Batman. If you see his well sculpted butties. No, you're terrified of that. You're like, he must have done all the swatches.
Don't you walk or already prove that if you see Batman's butt, it is detrimental to the character. No, I'm pretty sure it just means that he can kick your heart into stopping. Oh, I see. He's like, it's just no.
There's so much power behind that. He's not just trying to win over, you know, damsels. He's also trying to kick ass. Yeah, well, he could do both.
I meant like, stop your heart not like in a romantic way. I mean, like in a, you're dead way. I guess. The limit stands for butt kicking is not like the best sculpted one.
For me. All right, well. Yeah, I also agree. The Batman Beyond Skin works when it's just like, it's just one color.
No, you're going to talk about wall breaking in those games when you put the animated skin on. Yeah, that's bizarre. Because that's what is great until you see it three dimensionally against the backdrop of Gotham and you're like, oh, this is weird. Yeah, I see his chin.
Yeah, I still have lost some dimensions to my body, but I've gained them. I don't know. Yeah, I do love the Batman and the series. The first out of all of the animated series from Batman TAS from 92 to, like I guess, Justice League when they completely revamped him.
Yeah, long years in purple. Batman and the only series that I do, like the first time you see him, is the, is toppers. Yeah, everything about it works. It's just like, and they have, they work in the blue, but they can make him work in shadow.
It's just, it's just a perfect depiction. Oh yeah. And the cape is ridiculously long in a way that couldn't possibly function the right, like without him tripping over at every five, for like, frickin seconds. But no, it works.
He makes it work. I agree. I love that suit. Yeah, definitely.
And you got the white eyes. Oh yeah, no. It works because he's a cartoon character. Yeah, he only works with white eyes.
He doesn't have to see. Well, if you do, then you know it's Bruce Wayne. Yeah, exactly. I know he's the most beautiful blue eyes.
Right. It's a fact. What? It's a fact.
Yeah. Why do we know that? Hang on. Hang on.
Don't be surprised what he just yet. Actually, I think sometimes it's brown eyes. It doesn't matter. Right?
Okay. Now I have blue eyes. Let me say sheet. Right?
Do you have any others? Uh, did I, I think not. Because I had one that I know most people are not going to be behind and I think I'm like, I feel like, I might be totally wrong, but I feel like I'm one of like three people who enjoyed this suit. No.
No, wait. Do you have any other? I feel like I've mentioned a lot. I've mentioned a lot.
Yeah. I've mentioned a lot. Ethan? No, that's it.
I actually, it's funny. The animated series. I didn't want to say that because like I knew you guys. You can jump in.
I never actually watched the animated series because like I didn't get that channel. You mean Fox? Yeah. I was too far nowhere in Maine.
You get famous. Not get Fox. It's very weird. Until the Super Bowl came around on Fox.
First year was on Fox. Suddenly our cable company was like, oh yeah, we got Fox now. Oh, yeah. Thanks.
Oh, really? I feel like you could have always maybe gotten it. I didn't get a chance to see it in action, but I could see ads for it because there were ads for it on other channels. And I remember like that for me was like other than the movie Batman, which I was less familiar with.
That was the version of Batman that I thought of as iconic. And I didn't even see the show, but like the look of it was just like perfect for me. And then like having read some of the comic and stuff, I could see how it's like a distillation of like multiple sermons from before it. And it's like better than all of a thing.
Yeah. My favorite aspect of the animated series costume was the fact that the cape pretty much connected right beneath the neck and then just kind of split open so that it could be as wide or as closed off as he needed. It was entirely shrouded in it and he would just like come out of the shadows or he could have it separated and be fighting and you could see like all of him. It was a great dynamic.
I worked well in the animation too. He'd kick his shoulders back and then either like shoot off of a grappler or...? Yeah. I like the belt too.
The belt's great because it like couldn't possibly function. Nope, it's streamlined. It's just like literally no way you'd have anything in there. It's like, each swears this thin, and he's just like hang on.
Okay, right? Absolutely. So the one I have that I don't think, I just look at, I don't know, it's the project Batman. Project Batman?
Yeah, the Batman. Oh. DCU is Batman. Yeah.
but only because it makes me think of mech suits and other anime, weirdly makes me think of like a vangalian in a weird way. But I liked that suit and I liked having someone who didn't know how to use that suit in that suit. And I know that Super Heavy is like nobody's favorite arc, but I kind of enjoyed it. I had fun with Jim.
Yeah, I wish that it had been given the opportunity to either be explored by another writer or at the very least, like, been not happening when everyone else was also being treated. Yes, no, I agree. I think it was a good idea. It's poor timing, but I kind of enjoy that suit because it's just, we're not building Batman here.
We need to, but we're going to pay homage. I thought that's good. I got a Gordon suit inside the mech. Yeah, yeah, but I thought it was an interesting way to do something that was supposed to be heroic but intimidating.
So again, I know. I'm always going to give it some props. Yeah, that's fair. Nice.
It's all subjectives anyway. Yeah, right. What does it matter how wrong we are? It's very.
It's infinitely wrong. True. The only wrong thing about it is the fact that Gordon does have a mustache. Yeah, you had to shave it.
Well, it's for, you know, you gotta shave it too. It wasn't very weird to see Batman with a mustache, like, poking out of the cowl. It's happened more. By Joe, by think that's Jim Gordon in there.
Like, yeah. At one point in the 1966 Batman show. It's Alfred. Alfred is in the Batman show.
But he's really far away and pretending to be sick. He's pretending to be sick. He has this little thing in front of them to change his voice, but you see the mustache and you're like, come on. Yeah.
Look, that's one of Batman's many powers. He can grow a mustache. He can grow a mustache. He can really cast.
Joker had a mustache too, and that's how he just painted over and he seemed to know that either. Yeah. Which is like what are you doing? No, you don't understand him.
He's a Romero. He's a must-dish. He's just like, like, get out of here. Well, at the moment you're the joker.
That one's a day. You're the joker. I guess the Batmobile. The Batplane.
Oh, the Bat Tank. What's that? Dark Knight. Well, I don't want to see the Batbose.
Boo. Fine. The Watchtower. He built it.
That's true. He did that in the comics. He takes over the watchtower and he's like, okay. He flips a switch.
They all the branding. The Bat's kind of like a fine. Especially the outside. Yeah.
And then a huge signal just projects onto the earth. Oh my God. Yeah. Let me slice it into it.
No. Oh my God. It's the whole moon. Yeah.
The whole moon. All the fur. Season. Yeah.
Can you have the logo come out of the sides of the Watchtower? Yeah. So that's not like itself. Yeah.
Well, yeah. It's not going to be. He knows it's his. He doesn't need to see the branding on the inside.
It's all on the outside. Yeah. I mean, he will. No, the steering wheel comes out.
It's in a bat shape. I know if I'm pulling up the steering wheel. It's mine. Right.
And then immediately Alfred just shows up at a nowhere. There's a hologram. Like an Alfred's AI on the watchtower. Yes.
That would be great. That's going to show up now. That's going to be the comic on it here too. That's it.
I'm out. Yeah. But yeah. So if you are here, you either don't know who we are but are very interested in panels.
We are very sorry. But hey, enjoy the free chair. Or if you do know who we are and you are interested in us and what we do. Thank you so much for coming out.
And so what we're going to do is we're just going to open the field to questions and just kind of go from there. And if there weren't any questions or questions Peter out, we will fill the void with Vakius bullshit. Watch like the show. Yeah.
Yes in the back. Magic. Yeah. The Magic Supernatural horror for me.
Any of those three of us, I'm like, okay, well that's going to take this. That's for me. Yeah. I love space.
If I book that space in it, I'm in. Space. Nice. I like deconstructions of superhero genre.
So Kingdom Come, Watchmen, those sorts of stories. Yeah. You're basically going to read the authority. Yeah.
There's a couple that have come up during the show that's out. Yeah, I'm like, this is for you. Yeah. So it goes out to Ethan.
Right. And I like the human element as long as like a person has actual stakes. Especially if they're said again something fantastic. But also has something grounded.
If it's just God's fighting for me, I'm like nah whatever. But if it's like God's fighting and there's someone in the balance or something. But what if they're supposed to get married half an hour? Like I'm more interested in the human element.
Relatable. Relatable. It has to be connected in order for me to be interested. I also like kind of similar to that when heroes get broken down to a more human level.
So Iron Man 3, Iron Man 3, Iron Man 3, but when he has to be Tony Stark fighting against the manor. The Mandarin. Well, the Mandarin or just yeah. When he's in that town and it'll know where.
Yeah. He's suits all destroyed and he has to figure out how to like fight. Yeah. Without all the things that make him Iron Man like that stuff.
That man without his gadgets. Yes. I like that. He seems like to see people just destroy it.
Like just take it off. Just like what can you do when everything that makes you super is taken away. Yeah. Superman when he loses his powers.
Right. I find that very interesting. Yeah. Building off that I also really dig when a hero is brought to its breaking point.
And then when it gets extreme and they change the costume and they have to like kill people. I mean like. Oh, when they're really broken in half because someone cracks their spine. Right.
No, not so much that as much as I like broken. Yeah. No. I don't think you got it.
When the Sentry to Carnage in Space and worked him into it. Yeah. I mean like that was entertaining but it wasn't a bad game. I was looking for it.
Oh. When someone put Sandman in turns into glass and then literally shatters it. Yeah. That's literal breaking.
Again, I'm just talking about the metaphorical breakdown of a person. You know like in quarter vowels when Batman is like lost in the labyrinth and he is brought to his breaking point and then he finds the deepest regions of his soul to find the strength to fight back. That in other words is like I know that I'm sick to death at owls. It's like so beautifully visceral and rewarding because of everything he went through to get there.
It's still like. And then the predator shows up. And then the predator shows up and it's infinitely different. I'll also add fantasy.
Fantasy is excellent genre. You said that right? No. It's a magic supernatural.
I'll say fantasy. Yes. So my well is running the drive. You have any only.
Have you watched Gravity Falls? Yeah. Okay. Good.
Gravity Falls. You can stay. Yeah. Check it out.
Yeah. I'm sorry. Amazing World of Gumball. Ben likes Amazing World of Gumball.
It's every episode is its own universe and it's just insane. Which is right up in Helly. Some of the jokes are great. Some of the jokes are dumb.
But every time I'm laughing pretty hard during the episode. So nice. Yeah. They're pretty big.
It's a big show. Yeah. That's all I got. I'm sorry.
It's like I don't watch Cartoon. A lot of DC animated movies coming out. Yeah. Really good.
I don't. No. No. Apparently that's going to be part one is really good.
It's cute to me. So it should be at least better than the last five. The second one isn't. So I'm like why did you do that?
Well we watched on the Red Hood didn't we? Yeah that was good. That was 10 years old. Oh yeah.
If you haven't seen it. Yeah then you dig it. Lots stuff. Oh yeah.
If we're going to things you haven't seen over the last I don't know 100 years or so. We probably could come up with a good conference for you. There's a favorite show of Tiffany's. It involves statues that come to life.
That's a Disney property. I believe it's all the gargoyles. I did not know statues that come to life. I can't deny that.
Technically they're not taking the statues. They're not taking the statues. They're like camouflage. Yes.
They started a stone. It's like a man sculpted them and then they breathed life. Yeah. I'm not going to steal the title of the show from her.
No that's true. Which I just did. That's fine. Yes in the front.
What's your favorite in the newspaper thing on DC? Oh man. DC is interesting because I think it's kind of like over now. And now they're trying to push the insistence on DC.
Don't call it that. It's over. We're doing something else now. The favorite and least favorite thing coming out of DC right now.
Rogo Zara is my least favorite thing coming out of DC. Or anything DC related. I can't for the wisem fathom. I can't bring anything to care.
I'm sorry. He's so over to about. He's like a kid wearing sunglasses and a backwards hat and baggy jeans on a skateboard and smoking and chewing gum. He's just trying too hard.
Also he's a stupid name. But it's also a really good one. I think Rogo Zara sucks. What's your favorite?
Favorite. The DC ceiling? Yeah. Oh.
Because they've been doing everything they could to discipline me over the last couple of years. Because everything was great. Like reverb. But it was like a cool band.
Snyder's Batman was going to cool the record. And it's like, let's stop that. I'm one of the two people who doesn't like Tom King's run a Batman. So I can't say Batman.
But we've done some fun things on reverb. Yes. I mean, the art's all really good. I don't know if it counts.
I want to say Mr. Miracle, but that's not really rebirth. It's just a character study. But then I guess I would say Justice League Dark.
Because I really like that combination of characters together. We're like on YouTube. Really fun. Have a good time with that.
Justice League. Like, Snyder's Justice League is pretty good. He's stuck planning for the first arc, which is hard to do. I'm really proud of him for it.
So I'm thinking it. What was the Wonder Woman story that had her fighting the little Hades kid with the candles on his head? That was the new 52 Wonder Woman. Damn it.
That was good. I pretty much adore your descriptions of things. That's what you remember is the fiction in my head. It's fiction in my head.
For a minute my brain is just like, what? I speak then. He's talking about Wonder Woman in blood. Thank you.
This is what it's like dealing with me. My brain is all over the place. And they don't really read rebirth. We can't because we want to do those stories on back issues.
Just like Aquaman. It's good. It was. It was.
Was that the one that Stape and Sage was working on? Stefan and Sage was. Yeah. Pat Stajak?
Was a TV host about 100 years ago. He still has a TV host. He's like 90 years old. He's spinning that wheel until he dies.
