Alright, let's get on with the show. Weeding down upon the underworld to smash gangland, come a friend of the unfortunate enemy of criminal. In mysterious, all powerful characters, a problem to the police, but a crusade of a law. Hey, what's up, what's up, it's James and Sal.
And I'm Ethan. Yeah, welcome to the show. Oh, I'm here. We had to shoot today, so we're doing this.
Everyone's here, actually, but no, it's just us today. We can only fit too in the camera. Yeah, maybe the walk around on the back is on the shot. It's kind of cool, wouldn't it?
Let's say, ladies and gentlemen, today we're going to talk about Star Trek, because I'm meeting the talk about Star Trek on the show forever, and there's never anyone to talk about it with. Just like we've never done Ninja Turtles on it, because Joel knows nothing about Ninja Turtles. Right. At all.
I'm like, every generation has Ninja Turtles. Right. I don't care how you... He just opted out.
Yeah, you're all into past. You're all into past. But you don't know anything about a commercial. I didn't care.
Yeah, I was like, Ninja Turtles. Yeah. There's no blame. Like, a pass.
It's literally crafted for little boys. For little boys. Yeah. It should be actually taught in sociology and child psychology classes.
Like it looks like Sonic the Hedgehog. Well, Sonic the Hedgehog is an achievement of a... Is it called social engineering? I think it's definitely like...
It's manipulation of every kind. Yeah, but yeah, but Ethan here, the biggest Star Trek fan to make, certainly, I'm a noob in the checker world. I don't think they call it that. No?
What is Star Trek fans called, new Star Trek fans? I don't know. I'm not a big enough fan. Here's the question.
a trecky or are you a trekker? I heard if I was to use that word to describe myself, which I wouldn't probably, I would say a trecky. Right, because that's the classic term. That's the one that everyone knows.
I remember people talking about it in the early 90s. I can't even say mid 90s. I don't remember. I was a kid and I found Star Trek to be the most boring thing that was trying to get my attention.
Right. You know, because there were a lot of boring things. Right, but there's a lot of commercials for Star Trek at that time. There were so many shows.
So many, so many, there were literally three to four shows at one time. Somebody called me a red shirt. I like that for a new person Star Trek. I mean, a red shirt is a person but you already have that term to mean someone who is inevitably going to die.
Yes, it was expendable. Yeah. Although I do like how TNG turned on its ear. The captain's got the red shirt now.
Now what are you going to do? But yeah, as a kid, I was like Star Trek boring, get it out of here. And I remember being referred to as Trekkies. And Trekkies, of course, were very definitively represented in mock culture, particularly the Simpsons.
Definitely portrayed Trekkies with the almost respect. Oh my gosh. They definitely didn't have like Spock ears. And like, nah, it was just, it was like Conan Bryan had the complete cornerstone of making fun of Star Trek fans.
And immortalizing them in like the most condescending light I could possibly imagine. But I remember they were formulating it in terms of like, we're going to call ourselves Trekkers. It's more active. It sounds a little more aggressive.
And I'm like, that sucks. Just go with the thing. Just own it. Just don't be like that.
It's just me. That would just be cool. And also like Star Trek. I bet there's like this split.
There is. It's all about whether it should be Trekkies or Trekkies. I can imagine like every like at the yearly meeting in Las Vegas, they'll bring it to the table. All right.
It's like when we panic to state. Or like, you know, when Puerto Rico has to have that vote every year, like they go to Las Vegas, they go to the Star Trek experience. And they go, OK, here we're going to bring the table. This is all a show trial.
Like if every kind is no way. We're going to get like in Star Trek 6. Oh, yeah. Show trial.
I was literally just watching that two days ago. Why is bones on trial? Oh, because he they've been failing to save Chancellor Gorgon. Like, yes.
It wasn't Malper. I mean, well, no, because Chang does accuse him of Malper. Yeah, he does. He accuses him of being drunk.
Oh, that's right. But we were all drinking. Yes. That's your excuse, McCoy.
For God's sake, I know you three weeks retirement. Yeah. Like for God's sake, you've never been in a show trial. This is just speak as little as possible.
Let Worf defend you. Yeah, they called him Worf. I believe he's like a grandfather. He's a grandfather.
Yeah, he is a relative. Yeah, well, he asked me. It's Michael freakin' Dorn. I remember being like, OK, now I'm very confused.
Worf is he a save or? Because he's like chewy where he's like 300 years old? No. I was like, oh, Dukling on just there's really old.
OK, cool. I like that idea. No, no, no. It's just that like, Worf got all the Worf genes.
Yeah, apparently Worf's were always interested in helping humans. Yeah. Well, I think it was just that he, you know what it is? It's just like that Worf is so interested in preserving the integrity of the Empire.
Especially when it was on the verge of collapse. Right. They're only 50 years of like, left it. According to, yeah, that's Star Trek reports.
But anyway, the point I'm making is that I'm not a Trekkie, nor Trek-er. And I'm new to it in terms of like, I guess like I got in when, long after any show had relevancy, I liked the Whales one. That's what I called it. Yeah.
I like the way everyone else. Everybody. Nobody doesn't like, just like, I like the one with the Bears in terms of Star Wars. Not me.
That's like, I'll tell you what, I tell you identify somebody in Star Wars and understand it. You're like, I'll go with the Bears. Yeah. Other Ewoks.
Those Bears are savage and they were cannibals. They were E humans. Are you kidding me? You think there are?
Yeah. There are man-eaters. Yeah. There are skulls in those drums.
So, no, they're just helmets. They just took the helmets off of the day. The dead corpses. And then they arrested those men and kept them as POWs.
In the Ewok camp. You know what I didn't see? Any prisoners were in that camp. You know, I did see a banquet.
A bountiful meets. Yeah. Where'd all that food come from? We don't see any prey animals.
They're all like, no, no, no, no, no. They're like, this is good. And we're freaking Luke and Han. And she we were like, no.
Don't, I'm, I'm, I ain't on the way old. There were no bodies left. There were no bodies. We don't know what happened to the bodies.
I think we know. That's what happened to the bodies. Consumed by hapless rebels and Ewoks. But yeah, so I like the whales one.
And I loved the camaraderie that was showcased in that movie. It was like hanging out with friends. And I felt like a sham, like a phony. And she was, I don't even know why they're friends.
I don't see them become friends. No. But I really, but it was so, like the chemistry is like, you could so palpable and like rich it was, the pored over syrup. I loved the chemistry between those characters and those actors.
Spike and Thakau hated each other. They were very chatener. There were survival reasons and some, yeah. I understand it like great feelings.
Because Star Trek 6 is the impetus behind this episode entirely. Yeah, I understand it. Like the reason, part of the reason why Captain Sewell even has a ship is because T'K and Chatener had enough. Like the very least T'K has enough of Chatener.
I was like, I don't even want to be the same. Yeah. I've heard that that he does not care for Chatener. I do like that they gave Kirk the line to explain where where Sewell is.
Where's Captain Sewell? On assignment. But I liked the camaraderie between those characters. And I was like, I guess I have to get into it.
So I was like, well, I guess I'll watch Star Trek Motion Picture. About 20 minutes in. I'm like, oh no. About 20 minutes in.
I'm like, that's the worst. I'm never going to see this movie. I guess I won't ever find out. I will never watch it.
And then thankfully, I don't know if you've seen it. The Red Letter Media did a full review episode. Really? On the motion picture.
I'm like, wow. Exactly what I needed. They gave me a point by point rundown of what it's all about, what works, what doesn't. I get to see it.
And I'm like, yeah, no, I'm never going to see that. Just watch that episode. I've seen it twice. The second time I watched it, I was just like, people say it looks really good.
And I got the blue rays. Oh, yeah. All of them. So I was like, let's take a look.
And like, you know what? It does look really good. Well, because they were like, I think it does are like magic did the movies. Or the very they did many movies.
The first two. They didn't do, I know they didn't do five. Well, because there was no money for five. Man, they had such plans for chakaree.
It was going to look so amazing. There was going to be rock monsters. One of them to fight demons. Right.
That wasn't really cool. Instead, everything falls on them. Yeah. What I read is that he wanted there to be a bunch of demons, and they like paired it back, like you could have like one demon, and then it was like no demons.
Okay, let's meet in the middle and say no demons. I wanted five demons. I wanted an army of demons. I don't understand.
It was like originally it was demons, and they're like it could be rock monsters, and then it could be like it could be one rock monster, and then it was, how about rocks fall down on you, and you run out of their way? I like five a little bit. Like yeah, it's funny, I like five, and then I like start watching it, and I'm like let's just get to the God needs to search. Everyone just likes that line.
It's so great, excuse me, he raises his hand. It's the God is sending. It's the conversation with every atheist you've ever met. Excuse me, something you've seen play any of this at all.
And you should go either and you're stupid for thinking. But that movie is frustrating because there's potential, there's so much potential, they go to a place. They go to Yosemite. And you see them outside.
Oh no, oh no, fantastic. And they got those awful rocket boots, and then it's called a new stream. Yeah, and he's climbing the mountain, and then suddenly they're on a sound stage. Just total sound stage, and it's like, and if the most static TV shot you've ever seen, the two shot of him being like, it's like they just turned the camera on its side.
He's just like, he's so easily scaling the mountain. And Spock is just like, I'm just standing here. I'm not even trying to pretend. It's not like they have me on a cable to at least give the illusion I'm hovering.
No, I'm just standing here because Shatner's directing. So no one's happy. They have no money. They have no money.
He's an idiot, so yeah, it's complete disaster. So anyway, I went back and I'm like, OK, I'll watch the motion picture pass. Then I was like, well, I guess I'll watch four again. And then six was on TV all the time.
So I saw six, which I enjoyed. I saw six of theaters, man. That movie blew my mind. I think that was the first one I saw in theaters.
I was like, it was awesome. It was awesome. Yeah, no. And made by the same guy to Rathicom.
Which makes sense. I think it's written by the same person too. Oh, he wrote. Oh, he wrote it.
Yeah. It's so funny when they were like, OK, we're making the last one. How about none of the actors can direct this one? We're just going to bring in somebody who knows it.
Bring back the guy from the one that everyone likes. The one that undisputedly everyone agrees is good. When we had integrity. It wasn't as well as this four by general audiences.
No, but every Star Trek fans and movie fans all love too. Which I'm not here to be like. And here's why they're all wrong. And good weather full of crap.
And by two, it's one of the worst one. Yeah, worst one. Undiscovered country. Best one.
It's great. It's very good. It's very good. Despite the fact that their chief communications officer can't speak Klingon.
Yeah. And needs books. And needs books. That's the best of the crew to help.
Yeah. Where do these books come from? Is there a library on the internet? Don't they have a computer?
What are they just asking? They just ask the computer to talk about it. We'll see. It's just so funny.
Yeah. And when he seems like, Nick Lismire doesn't know anything about Star Trek. And that's exactly what it is. Yeah.
OK. So he went back and watched it. And then he was like, OK, got it. The most interesting.
He was like, three up to the most interesting bad guy was Khan. So we're doing that. But he wasn't like a fan. No.
Which is exactly what you need for your franchise. That's why the Sime Peg movie from the Star Trek 2009 series was the worst received one. Because it had the most fan service. It was the most fun and trek feeling.
But also it doesn't work. It's on a conceivable level. I like it. I like it.
But I don't like it as much as the other two. Interesting. I don't think they're great. But I like Star Trek Into Darkness, because there's no colon.
It's a sentence. I like it because it actually has a theme. And it's not a theme, but a message. It's trying to talk.
It's basically Munich, but with Star Trek. And I really like that idea. And I don't know if I like it explored in a movie that is predicated on a utopian concept from an idealist. It's certainly not.
None of it works. I mean, like section 33, what's the clandestine organization from D-Space 9? Oh, section no, 31. 31, I think.
Oh, I almost had it. You were close. Section 31 is established in the new timeline. That's cool.
No, the original crew shouldn't be anywhere near section 31. Well, section 31 is when you're like, when you're on the other. It's all dark. There's no point.
It's like the Superman Batman thing. Where it's like, if they fight all the time, when were they friends for this to be tragic? Yeah. But anyway, so they just shouldn't.
Well, no. If you make a movie in that year that they made it, it's 2009. It's going to be a darker action movie. Well, it has to be.
And I remember what was a Chris Pine saying things like, he was basically doing the Zack Snyder thing. He's like, if you think they're ever going to make a Star Trek movie that's anything like Star Trek. You live in a fucking dream world. And I'm like, you know, you could if the movie cost $25 million.
Right. It wouldn't cost making a sleepy, franchise fandom-driven action, not even actually, but a movie, just made for a target demographic. As long as you tailor it financially for that demographic, you'll never be disappointed. Well, we can't make a sleepy, talky, like intellectual drama for $150 million.
They'll never make a money back. Well, then why are you spending $100 million on that? It shouldn't cost that much. Yeah.
What are they going to do? The problem was Nemesis was such a disaster. Yes. And the crew was so visibly old at that point.
OK, well, we're not doing any more movies with those guys. Isn't it ironic that the second to last one was the one where there's a host of Feeling Look Younger? It's like the card looks, because there's that moment where the card Patrick Stewart crosses his threshold where he looks like Patrick Stewart from this period. And now he looks like Patrick Stewart from this period.
And insurrection is that tipping point where he's like, oh, you look like Xavier now. You're old, Patrick Stewart now. You are old. You could be 60 or a hard 45.
But either way, you've got 20 years to work with. I don't know. Anyway, but it's funny that they made that movie. Yeah, they can't, so they're visibly old.
Yeah, so it's just like, what were you going to do? Yeah. You're going to do something totally different. They weren't going to do a D-Space 9 movie.
That was never going to happen. Never. Yeah. Unless the TNG movies had ended after first contact when the first time was still on TV and in front of people's face, maybe you could have done it and it wouldn't have worked.
And then it isn't ironic that there was a show, Star Trek. There were three shows, TNG, Voyager, and D-Space 9. They were all in front of people's faces. And the movie executives were like, well, these things have an established audience.
So naturally, we make a movie. Like naturally, we're going to make a TNG movie. Yeah. And they've been making the original series Star Trek movies.
So there's precedent for like, people watch Star Trek movies at some time. Kevin Feige, when he's making Endgame, is like, I'm not going to assume that people have seen Daredevil and put him in these movies. Sure. It's like, F.U., they assumed people saw Voyager and put Admiral Janeway in the beginning of Nemesis.
Well, who cares? But yeah, well, that's my point. There's 1,000 portals. One of them could have the defenders act.
We can confuse one that argument is so crappy, because it's like, there's characters all the time in movies that people have never seen before. Yeah. In most movies, I've never seen any of the characters before. And especially because like you, most movies I've now have seen every character.
That's true. But in the old days, there were original concepts that were created in the movies. Endgame is predicated on a character and his technology that like half of you saw, which is Ant-Man. Yeah.
Right. I'm not going to get hinges on a character that like didn't do nearly as well as the rest of them. By the way, and it is great. I really like it.
It's not even really yesterday to me to watch the whole thing from being an end with commercials, which is good to do that. I don't know if I'm blue, right? But good movie solid fun. Yeah.
Feels like a different movie. That's the only thing is it feels like a different movie. Yeah. But anyway, back to Star Trek Trek.
Right. So, so six, and then I was like, well, I think I'm out of it. Clearly I'm not, I'm not on this. I didn't appreciate the Cold War allegory that.
No, I didn't. Not at the moment. Not at the moment. It's predicated on, because if you don't, that movie is weird.
And it's like, what are they doing? Why are they talking about, why is it called Kit-Kittimer? What's your name? Well, there's, what are all these quotes?
What are they, what is happening? Yeah. No, it's true. Why are the Klingons and the Federation like suddenly going through this, weren't they already at peace kind of?
Yeah. From the original, because if you saw the original series, you know, they were forced to have peace by, I think it was the Orcanians. I like to mix them up with another. There's some like super powerful race that like makes it the world a little bit, but they can't fight anymore.
Because they're just like, why are you fighting? It's stupid. I'm done. Oh, yeah.
Yes. OK. They were on, like they were on their planet. And like, it's like the border between Federation Klingons face and like the Klingons are there, and the Earthlings are there.
And that whole thing is a metaphor for the Cold War happening at that time. Yeah, just that there was no more superior being in our reality. Just like, what's not going to happen? It's like, look how stupid this is.
You made your weapons hot so you can't use them. And they go mad, like, no, who are you to tell us we can't fight? It's like, but like, isn't it better? Yeah, but isn't it better now that you're not?
Yeah. So like, after that, they couldn't fight anymore. Yeah. And then the movies are just like, oh, no.
But they were like at war the whole time. Because like, again, Nickle's Meyer doesn't care. No. Like Star Trek Wars is like, no, the Klingons are bad guys, right?
What if they were the Soviet Union? Yeah. And the Federation is the US, and they have a, you know, there's a Chernobyl which like wrecks the economy of the Klingons and so whatever. And whatever.
You know what I'll use control after place, and I'll just change the names later. Yeah. But like, if you don't get any of that, and it's harder to now because it's so far away, you know, it's like really strange. It is strange.
But it is fun. And like, what, and the more adult you become, the more like you learn about history presumably. Sure. Hopefully.
And so you find you're like, oh, this is kind of an evil thing. It's being made during the time or it's right after. So you're feeling idealistic about it. Yeah.
But yeah, like, so I abandoned that. And then I wanted to speak Trek because I was, I made friends with a guy named Jason who was in our episode, Star Trek, Star Wars, Vader's Quest, which you can watch any time on this channel to check that's a lot of fun. That's the inspiration for you doing a lot of that, that's the faculty stuff. That's the thing we got with that stuff.
But yeah, Jason was really into Star Wars and Star Trek. I could speak Star Wars like big time. Like we were really into Star Wars and he was really into Star Trek. And a lot of references and he was speaking, and he was really into TNG.
And he was speaking my language by like doing using a lot of Picard quotes. And so I was like, oh, I kind of dig this by card guy. Keep dropping. So I watched some of TNG and of course, but I thought the show had been dead for a long time.
I think we're coming out. I think that how did you watch it? We're on TV. Oh, and I think it was cool.
Yeah. Yeah. And I only caught it when I was in college when it was on. It was during those times and like they were just like when cable was just playing with marathons of anything.
I got the rights show everything from beginning to end until it's over and then do it again. Yeah, like I don't know why they would do that. But like comment essentially that a lot of TV, CNT. Law and Order.
Not here's a 19 hour marathon. Yeah. Here's 19 hours of the same thing. Oh, the same thing.
So it's like, oh man, I love McCoy. Hang on, I'm McCoy. But not Bones McCoy. No, it's a lot of order.
But anyway, so I got into Star Trek TNG and that's really that was my show. And like the more I got into TNG, the more I got away from the original series, it became more and more. It was already like it's a very different show. I was different enough.
I read comic books. I didn't need to also be like, and you know, mother and father. I did work last at that time. The last thing they needed was for me to also be into the original series Star Trek.
Right. And it was a game like the nerdiest one. The nerdiest one. Oh, it's so old.
It's like why would you watch this? Look at the sets. Look at it. It looks like Flash Gordon bullshit.
Like and listen, it's I appreciate for what it is. But like, you know, and then of course there's the whole trapping of like, you know, yeah, is Star Trek TNG like is the first season largely avoidable and garbage. Like sure. Although there's a couple of gems in there.
There's a couple of really cool things in there. But then and equally in the original series, like, yeah, do they go to gangster planets and not see planets? Like, yeah, clearly there are ideas that they we have all these costumes from this Nazi movie we go to over here. That doesn't go to Nazi plan.
Like, why not just make a time travel. Why not go to a planet for that thing? So but gun CNG as that as that and because they were clearly like aching off of those movies, which are like for me an idealized version of the show. Yeah, because the movies are like everything's better in the movies.
Everything's better in the movies and the acting is better. Yeah, the writing is better. Yeah, the special things are way better. Even in five, the worst special things are better than five.
It's better than anything. Anything. In terms of look right. Yeah, but then what would happen is I was like, okay, I'm a TNG guy.
That's it. You got me. Lots of that. I'm a TNG guy.
The car is my favorite captain will move on. I, you know, and I'll just I'll just say it's easy to do that with Star Wars. It's a Star Wars kid. Yeah.
It was like, oh, it was my favorite movie. No, it's all three issues for you know, you know, who I am. But you know why I'm like, you know, why I'm so that's my hill. Yeah, I was starting track.
I'll do the same thing. Okay. I'm a TNG guy. I'm actually washed the other one.
I never watched it, but I know I think I think I feel like I feel like I wouldn't be answering on the version. But but then TNG or OS characters would crop up. Yeah. Like when Spock was in a two-parter with a Romulans, which only after getting into the movies and appreciating the original series, do I think like, why do they ruin Spock and get him all well, stupid for the Romulans?
That sucks. Well, the Romulans were. We're both. Can I know that sucks?
Like, well, yeah, which cares though. Like, why is why is why? He was invented by TNG. What's the Romulans were never seen in the original series series, I think.
I think what was that the history of I remember they had had a war with Earth. Yes. They never saw each other. They just fired like.
Yeah. That was an allegory for nuclear weapons. Well, and I always heard that apparently Kirk was the first human to see it run. Yeah.
So maybe they did appear in the show in the show. Yeah. In any case, but Spock showed up and went, oh, Spock, Eric, you know, I like Spock. I like Spock in the Wales one.
Yeah. So like I'm familiar with Spock and then bones in the pilot for TNG. He's he's on the main voyage off the Enterprise. Yeah.
It's McCoy right before he died. Right before actually. I was dying till few years after that. But he died in the 90s, I think.
Yeah, that's right. TNG was 87. They made him look really old. They did well because he's 192 or something like that.
It's 70 years after the original series. And he was probably like 104 when the original series ended. At least those movies ended. I think he was at his 60s.
Dear God, man, I was trying to say these. But yeah, but bones is in it. And then the Scotty episode is the one where it's like, they might as well call it like nostalgia. Like that's the episode name.
Yeah, nostalgia trip. Yeah, nostalgia trip. Because like that'll call that. But like, but Scotty being on it was like, where I went, OK, I have to get into this three characters.
Well, and the affinity that the show had a reverence for Scotty. I'm like, OK, and what's your alleged? No, except for Jordan. He was like, screw you old bastard, get away from me.
You're just in the way you're a doorstop of a man. Well, leave it to your work, Mr. LaForge. It's so good.
He's better than that show. And he isn't anything else except for, of course, at the conference. He stayed in his boat. Yeah, they give him something to do there.
Is it a son or is it a nephew, I believe? Thank God. I remember thinking it was a son being like, this is really sad. That's the only, now that we have this man losing those important things.
Yeah, and he just stays there. He doesn't do OK. Oh, keyboard. Yeah, I think he said it's a sister's youngest.
Yeah. But then I'm like, all right, fine. And then I think I saw Rathicon two years ago. Two years ago?
Wow. Because you held that long time because I said it was like, you're like, you're like, you're like, I was like, con, yeah, what the hell was wrong with you? And I come from that. Yeah, no, it's so much like this.
You got the you got the five. You got the live time. Con, Spock dying. Like you need that movie.
You need it. Absolutely. No, it's yeah. It took forever for me to get to it.
And when I did, I'm like, oh, her. For me, you got a lot of other things that are like not so iconic. But it's the other things like where family got to make references. And I'm like, what the hell was doing?
What are you doing? Oh, it's just a shot for shot recreation of the cave scene on Genesis. Yeah, or on the moon. Yeah.
No, that was. Now, I want to say, Genesis moon. Yeah, it's Genesis moon. I want to say, Praxis.
But I'm like, that's a clean. No, it's clean. That's the hiding place. Yeah.
But anyway, I like those moments where like he's, you know, they're, they're, he, oh, tell me what you did to win the coffee. I should be real. Oh, yeah. You're looking at the only man to beat the no in scenario.
Yeah. Yeah, he cheated. Yeah. I don't like Luke.
Spock, you ready? And then, and then at the end, he's like, I never, I never faced death. I cheated my way out of it and had myself in the back for it. Yes.
And it's like, oh, no, yeah. It's great. And at the beginning of the movie, you've got him like feeling old. Oh, no, deal with that.
There, there, that's the best he's ever been in terms of acting. Yeah. You got two, two scenes where he's perfect. One is when, actually, okay, this three, but one is when he says, uh, when, when Marcus says, how are you feeling?
And he says, um, he says, uh, there's a man out there who I haven't seen in 10 years. And also watch Kili, and you show me son who would be happy to join him. How do I feel, warned, out? Yeah.
And then at the end, when he says, how to feel, I feel young, he says it. You're like, oh, yeah, I feel, Yeah. I believe it. Yeah.
Well, of course when he how he dammed himself. I have put on the glasses. Yeah. He's going through now.
Again. It's not really good. It's not really great. He's got a great delivery of that line that is memorable.
It's kind of good to come through now. That's not a idea. But those two, those two moments, I'm like, this is part of a movie. You got me.
You got me on like wholesale. Yeah. at the beginning after the Kobayashi Maru test disaster. Oh god, the door is open.
He comes, oh, well, no, I'll say he goes back to his quarters, he's just quarters, which are amazing. Oh, and then Bones comes in, and then he's celebrating his birthday. And he's like, oh, great, thanks. And like, McCoy's like, okay, what are you doing?
What are we doing here, man? Other people, everyone has birthdays. Why are we tweeting yours like a damn human role? Bones, I don't wanna be lectured.
It's like that exchange between them is so, like, I buy with their friends. Right, and like, that's the true friendship. Like, always like, Kirk is Bob, Kirk is Bob. I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And yeah, but like, no, Bones and Kirk are friends. Yeah, yeah, they like depend on each other, and they support each other. And they know each other, like, personally. Yeah, by the way, we do have a sequence in the show, we'll read your super chats, and I apologize, those who are in the super chats, we haven't gotten their question answered.
This is a collaborative show, normally in the case, we read them and answer questions, I'm gonna do that now. Yes, yes, I do apologize to everybody. Eric Grant says, Star Trek plus Kam, Bob, yes please, the only way to top this, is in North Saga coverage. I, you know, I'm sorry, I agree with you.
We'll see. Yeah, as if C.Ed, help it is happening very much. Thank you. I already had a little exposure to Star Trek, but for what little I had experienced, it seems really cool and should probably check it out.
I don't know if it's really cool, but it's very cool, but not that way. You seem cool to like it. You will feel cool when you're doing the least cool thing, which is quoted at someone and have them quote, the next line after it. It's really cool to experience it.
Yes. Not necessarily to be in it. Yeah, or enact it yourself. But listen, like, although some of it is really bad.
Yeah. Because it's an episodic, right, this is a serialized series, and some of the episodes are not gonna be good. No, there's a lot of them are real bad. You gotta take the good with the bad.
Yeah, like the song says. But you know what's funny about that is, when you get into it and you find your show, when you get to the bad ones, it's like hanging around with your friends who said something uncomfortable, or like your friend farted. So when you're a big fan of T&G, and then you get to a data episode where Prince Binder clearly hit through a hissy fit, and was like, I'm an actor, damn it. I'm gonna play four characters this episode, and then three of them are gonna sing, and two of them are gonna have different make-up changes.
And you can tell immediately that Prince Binder just like shit the fucking hallway. He was like, no, you're just like, oh, data. Will you ever learn humanity? Just because it's stupid.
I think it's in season one or two, where data just wants to be Sherlock Holmes, he just pretends to be Holmes. And he's doing it during really important briefings, and because Patrick Stewart's an actor, he's doing this thing where he's dealing with a child, where he's like, I can't yell at him, because that wouldn't be anything. But I also have no patience for his little pretend games right now. It's time to be an adult right now, data.
It's just, that's funny. So it's like that. You can get something out of the crappy episode. Exactly, there's some value.
Then you can be like, hey, remember that episode? When Dr. Crusher had sex with that ghost? And people were like, and it's supposed to going like, what?
I'm never gonna watch that show ever. And people going like, yeah, that was crazy. That was the worst thing ever. I loved it.
Why? So let me get this trait. There's two instances where the Federation picks up an entire cultural town and puts them, I'm just gonna grab a town like fucking Brainiac and pull it off of Ireland and drop it on a distant planet, and they just are gonna be Ireland over here. Because like, I'm gonna grab, like, okay, I wanna do an episode where it's an allegory for like when we put Native Americans into reservations.
