I'm Joel, and it is Valentine's Day, and we were just talking before we started. We had a Valentine's Day related episode for three years running now. And you believe it? Out of all of the holidays to gravitate on and make dedicated episodes for, it's one of the oft-forgotten ones from popular culture, particularly cartoons.
I think of whatever I think of the legitimate holidays, I think of if cartoons dedicated a whole episode to that idea. All the best specials, yeah. And all the best ones do. Simpson's has a great one, even in Vader's Zoom has a Valentine's Day episode.
I chew chew chew chew chew. You can pinpoint the exact moment that it's hard to break some hands. But Mr. Wig, I don't think that story is alright for children.
Really I keep my pants on in this one. That's true. So today, because we talked about some of the best or iconic comic book couples and we talked about some of the most toxic, we thought we played matchmaker and see which superheroes belong together or should be together. Yeah.
You know what's funny, I thought about looking up some lists and seeing if we could really talk about what other people have suggested. But to the life of me, I don't really see this as a very popular topic that people have. It's not. I looked before we started, I didn't find any.
I made a little list of just ones I threw together. Yeah. I'm literally going to be free-balling it, ladies and gentlemen. So let's see how we go.
But I'm excited because this is a neat idea. I'm just like, who needs to be together? Who are some lonely people who are perpetually never together or who belong together? I also am going to be instating a rule right off the bat.
I think they have to stay in their own universe. Yeah. It's not like, oh, you know who'd be great? Like Catwoman and Captain America.
Like, no, we're not going to do that. We're not going to play. We're going to be easier to widen the pool and then point like, oh, you know what would be cool if I doubled the amount of superiors I can play with? But?
You mean to tell me you wouldn't want to see the atom in the wasp get together even though the atom is just a nicer version of Hank Pym? Yeah, exactly. Like, sure, I'd like to see that. Like, I found a better man, Hank.
This guy shrank and he's not a monster. Yeah, and he's not a horrible, horrible monster. What was my other joke when I had? Oh, you mean you don't want to see Banshee of the X-Men and Silver Banshee the villain of DC Universe together?
As neat as that is, it does not help us. No. So I thought what we do is we just, we stay. And also it allows for the universe of them.
So it creates a situation for writers to be able to be like, oh, you know what? That's not bad. Those guys and they also exchange really know what they're talking about. Indeed.
I can't argue. So we're going to do that. So, like, we're also going to get it out of the way. You know, Parker and Mary Jane belong together.
We all know this. Let's just hope that eventually the Red Goblin situation will change everything. But if it doesn't work out, sorry, past us, we are, we have dated ourselves and we've been on the wrong side of history. But that said, it would be nice to see Spider-Man and Mary Jane together.
But hey, since he's not with anybody, he's open season and we're going to play with him. And so many relationships. Like, remember when they were trying to, like, make him in carol a thing for a little bit, where it's like, yeah, because these two haven't had messed up love lives on their own. Maybe put it together and see what happens.
Yeah, let's talk about that a minute because, like, if you've never watched it, by the way, we did over here on Comic Pop at least, we did a big Spider-Man romance episode. It was just kind of like a self-contained video. We're talking about the many loves of Spider-Man. Very well done.

And let me tell you something, being a quasi-Spider-Man expert, you know, we've never really seen Spider-Man date any superheroes unless you count Black Cat, which none of us do. Or Mockingburg, which he's had kind of an on again off against. Are you really dating her? You just friends with benefits and also broke up in the last issue.
I mean, traditionally, Peter Parker's always had relationships home old, but he's never really been created outside of the normie pool. Yeah. And so when you saw him with, when you saw him pushing the Carol Danvers thing, I was like, that's a neat idea. I guess Carol's damaged enough for Peter Parker.
Let's see where this goes. Goes nowhere because- No. And by the way, I think it went nowhere because Marvel doesn't know what kind of personality Carol Danvers has. No, it changes from book to book writer to writer.
The Kelly Sude to comic version is very different from that Avengers version is very different from the version that's being written right now. Like the Ryan Reed version, I guess, or whoever was writing that book at the time. I don't remember. Just let G.
Willow Wilson write Captain Marvel too. Yeah. Is that too much? Just let her do both.
I'm happy to handle the load. And I trust her to do it and it might actually start making more sense. Yeah. But that said, you know, we've seen, we saw that pairing.
It didn't work. I think it's because of the failing of their ability to handle Carol Danvers' relationship or her sense of identity. Well, she was with Rodey in the background and that became a big crux of Civil War II. I'm like, wait, these two were together?
When did that happen? Like, I'll go in the background of the Captain Marvel book if you've been reading, but you know, he never mentioned it anywhere. That's the thing that really confused me. I was like, they're dating.
I mean, I wasn't reading either of their books, but I feel like that would have come up at some point and then they didn't. Yeah. Hey, not a bad idea. They're both disciplined military people.
Yeah, all right. Yeah. Unfortunately, Rodey's a little too dead for them to be able to carry a little relationship, but it makes a little more sense. I mean, it's the most superficial you can get, but I still get it.
But playing with that idea, you know, we never saw as Peter, like, date outside the superhero dating pool, it'd be interesting to see him pursue that, or at least it'd be cool if it wasn't with the worst possible pairings. Like, Mockingbird? What a horrible pair? I mean, like, because again, what's her character?
Like, what is that all about? What is the clash? What is the hitch? You know, she's a shield age.
I know they even joked in the last issue where like Bobby actually sat down and thought to herself, like, you know, I kind of like Peter when I was head of his security and we were touring around the world fighting crime and everything, but we have nothing to talk about when we're out of costume. Yeah, it's true. So at least slot realized that. He's like, yeah, what was I doing?
Yeah. I mean, I like the fact that he at least had the foresight to acknowledge what a bad idea that was, or at least what a like, what a superficially silly idea that was. Like, okay, you're going to go there. Like, anyway, yeah, I guess that was kind of dumb.
Too bad I had Alex Ross paint beautiful covers depicting their stupid. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think that's a waste of time.
But obviously, since we're going to mention Peter Parker's Spider-Man and who we would pair him up with if we if Mary James is not the picture or if it was like that was never a thing to begin with, my pitch, I think Jean Grey. Another woman who's had a lot of ups and downs and a lot of love triangles. You want to throw Peter into that mix? Yeah, I think she's she's, you know, I wouldn't even go so far say she's damaged.
I think that she is she has gone through trauma, but she is like, she's a fixer. You know, her interest in Wolverine kind of suggests that she likes to fix men. And Peter Parker is in essence a broken man in his own right. Oh boy.
It'd be fun to see her kind of like visiting his mind and like help sort some of the mess, you know, like where maybe she helps like, you know, you can actually investigate their relationship being almost like it falls apart because they all do it falls apart because it goes from like it being a mutual attraction to it being kind of like she is she's more like a therapist. Like she's helping him deal with his trauma or maybe your relationship strengthened because when he gets into her head, he helps her like find her footing and be like, no, like, not for nothing, but I've also been possessed by an alien power that abused my power. I know something about power and responsibility. We have a lot in common and he can make her laugh, which he can Wolverine make you laugh and Cyclops make you laugh.
Cyclops, I don't even think he has the ability to laugh much less make anybody laugh. It's another because he's a little furry jackass who's like, you know, yeah, I've always loved watching like watching spaz's freak out. That was very very delightful. I'm sure he's a little very inspiring myself.
Is Jean older than Peter? Are they about the same age you figure? Good question. Just because the ages are always up and down.
Well, to answer that question, we'll have to look at how old they were when they were first invented in 1960, what, three? Yeah. Spider-Man came out 1963, X-Men came out same year. And we first see them Peter Parker's 15 when he becomes Spider-Man and how old does Jean have to be in X-Men?
Because I always thought Jean was a little older. Maybe she just acted more mature in the way that you know, girls mature faster than boys. Yeah, yeah. I'm sure there is some kind of expert in the chat who will be able to tell us how old the X-Men were when it showed up.
I mean, you figure it was school age because it was a school but they also looked to be old enough to kind of have their own shit in the fair and orders and stuff. Yeah. I have to assume that she was at least 16 if not as old as 18. Right.
But I feel like I think she was around the same age. But I would say even if they were like peers, she's probably a little older. I kind of like the idea of Peter maybe dating an older woman for a change. Yeah.
Somebody's got a little more experience, a little more maturity and maybe can help guide him a little more because if nothing else, Peter is always going on a journey of discovery and learning. Always, always. That's why I think I would like a woman is like, I don't think Janet would make much sense but that would be kind of cute. It's like, hey, we're both kind of insect themed.
Yeah. You're in the lost. They're kind of fun. Yeah.
I would see that too. And it wouldn't be too far from the Mary Jane thing because like Janet Van Dyne is all about image and style and flash and she really likes what she's a costume designer. So you got a lot of potential there. Plus he wouldn't have to lie about his double life of Spider-Man.
She would understand. She's like, no, I get it. I've been an Avenger forever. You can't make it to our date tonight because you know friggin.

But they say they want to take him there because that's a road not traveled. Parr came up with Green Arrow's little sister, Imiko Queen, who was also raised by Shadow and Assassin. So they actually have a lot in common. The only difference is Imiko is not a dick.
I think you're on to something there. I think that's something they might actually even do. I think Ben Percy has been teasing that because he writes both the Teen Titans book and the Green Arrow book. Oh shit, yeah.

How what go wrong? Until they will be critiquing each other on their stances in form. Also, like what's great about relationships when it's early on is how amped up they are, how horribly, overly melodramatic they are and how fleeting they can be. They always inform how the next relationship is going to go because they're a foundation upon which you build your context on that relationship.
So like Damien not being in one and then building it off of like dating basically a ninja assassin with himself would be great to inform the next relationship. It might also make Damien seem more human and more approachable where he's like on a mission with the Super Boins like why didn't she text me back I text her 15 minutes ago. Why is she not writing me back? Like I imagine he'd be like a really possessive dick.
Yeah, I could see that absolutely. I mean there's no question to me that Damien is definitely a kind of guy who would send like 10 or 11 texts with an 10 minutes man. They're really not big on boundaries. If his experience with the Titans as any indicator.

That would be really cool to see basically have Batman go like I've recreated this Apocalypse like scenario for you that shows you how much I dig you.

But I would say it'd be cool to see Tony and Carol get together.

Absolutely. I mean obviously like Pepper be great and like all the other characters they created for either of those relationships or either of those characters. We're just talking about superhero pairing. We're just like mixing matching like you know watching these characters trade kisses on the battlefield while they're punching Kang.

Okay here's another no brainer one in fact these two characters didn't meet for the longest time so I'm surprised they never tried to do anything romantic with them she all can Matt Murdock.
Yeah right two lawyers I mean like I've never even seen them try cases against each other. They only did in the last couple years in the Charles Souls book which is like you know when Marvel was bereft of ideas that would have been like the first thing they did the fact that we had to wait this long to see anything like that is unbelievable. Since every time anybody needed a lawyer in the Marvel universe since 1965 it was Matt Murdock or General Motors. One of the two.
The reason is because it fixes so many of Matt Murdock's problem what's his big deal. Oh I can never fall in love I can never open my heart because you know Bullseye will come along and kill her. It's happened like three times and Jen Walters like no one's killing me motherfucker. I'll call if you didn't notice.
Yeah by the way we had a super chat while we were chatting with ourselves that was from Ryan Compton who would not only be dating material but marriage material for the tragic lover Colossus. I say Scarlet Witch. Interesting. I think that she is like she's sensitive and tragic and she understands the plight of like her people even though she is the cause and was direct result of the extermination of those people obviously we're gonna she's a mutants moving on but you know just that kind of pairing where it's like it's two sensitive souls that are coming together that like that would explore each other in that kind of sense.
I mean I can think of from similar parts of the world too. I can just see them both writing poetry about each other in a big bad way even though I think Colossus is an artist. But yeah a lot of different pairings for example I have one back in the Marvel universe by the way these are two characters they're both green and you never you never even see them in the same like planet much less in the same like potential dating pool Hulk and Gamora. Oh yeah alright yeah I can see it they're both big they're both tough both love to fight and everything Gamora could be a calming influence on the Hulk much like how Black Widow has been shown to be a calming influence on the Hulk in the movies like the old strong like just a feel is this this this tough badass warrior check who is able to reach the Hulk on multiple levels you know I'm going with Bruce Banner Hulk by the way I'm going with the Hulk that like you think of when you think of the Hulk I'm gonna deal with I'm gonna deal with Armada son of care but but is the Hulk really a dating guy though I imagine he would forget a lot of birthdays and anniversaries that's fair well it depends on which all you're going with I like the duck green one where I like that one too I think that's the one to go with it's too with them because because here's the thing the reason the reason why I pair them is because not only do you have this cool like a woman who can actually like physically be with the Hulk but you also need to consider the story potential of the Hulk is if you don't do anything interesting with him if you don't like if you don't reinvent the Hulk every couple of years you're gonna make him like a stagnant project property and it happened many times oh and that's the thing that's why people love um Planet Hulk and we're whole can shake it up just such a just a huge shake up and I think that pursuing that relationship you know put in the Hulk in space but not on the car you know making a regarding the galaxy perhaps and kind of idea there but like basically the things would feel bad drags me but I thought I was the big green guy who hit things you see it and while it does enter into like that my that problem that I had with redundant characters I think
