Waiting down upon the underworld to smash gangland comes a friend of the unfortunate enemy of criminal. In this area, our powerful character, a problem to the police, but a crusade of all-off. Hey everybody and welcome to Author Rack, a show where we normally talk about a comic that came out last week, but this week, last week Deadpool two came out. We're doing a real time thing right now, and that's right after all considering what happens in Deadpool two.

Of course, we're going to be getting into some spoiler territory, but we'll give you a heads up when we get there. I'm Tiffany. Let's get into it. Deadpool two came out last week.

We saw it. We have some feelings on it. We're going to jump into them before we do that. If you're just running out of the theater, you're on the fence, it's whether or not you should see it.

I say go check it out. You? Yeah, look, if you saw the first Deadpool, go and see it. If you didn't and you have interest, you can still go and see it.

One of the folks we went with revealed to us after we saw a Deadpool two. They hadn't seen the first Deadpool. Yeah. And they were fine.

I'm amazed we found someone who had not seen it. I'm so like illustrated like sort of like a boat break. Yeah, style of poster that was up there. That's not what this movie is, but I still appreciate the sentiment.

This is kind of where we're probably going to get this spoiler territory. It'll probably just happen. Yeah, so I wouldn't charge very, very good. I'd add it to your watch later list and catch us afterwards.

We'll see you guys later. I'm sorry. Don't forget to put that here. Please.

So Deadpool two, directed by David Leitch, who's gone. New dude who actually directed like a Deadpool shorts between Deadpool one and Deadpool two, and also was a stunt coordinator and he most notably directed Atomic Blonde. Yeah. And I definitely had a different feel.

Yes. Very much so. I'm going to take the cast as all back, except for those who died. And so yeah, right off the bat, I kind of like knew they were going to kill off Vanessa.

Yeah, I knew it was spoilers. But yeah, it's just kind of that feeling because it's like, Deadpool, like the reason the first Deadpool was so successful was because he had that goal. Now he's a cheap that goal. And now he's just going to be like, I'm hurt, which is fine.

That's what he is. Right. But they showed you in the first like five minutes how cool but repetitive it would be to just watch a Deadpool movie where he does the things that where everything's working out fine for Deadpool. And that's not an interesting movie.

Well, for me, it's also like there are other superheroes who could be married and still make it work. And then Deadpool makes himself a target not only with what he does but his attitude. Yes. So it's like, of course someone's going to try to find out if you have like a home life.

And of course they're going to take advantage of that because like you're pretty verbose Deadpool. You kind of. Yeah, you really stick it to them and you don't just kill them. You like make them feel bad about themselves.

Yeah, they're going to know what was you. That's the other thing. So you have Vanessa guys and that's like the linchpin for everything. I guess that's the inciting incident.

It makes him achieve a better goal. But interestingly enough, which I was very happy to see because I'm a big fan of her in a career like her career like rapping and I was sad to kind of know in the back of my mind she was not going to be in the movie and that's really good because she's good actor and deserves to be in more movies and I didn't want her to get girlfriend. No, it's true. It's funny because like that convention I both liked and was just kind of like, all right, like it was too hard.

It was like real movie. No, it was just too real movie. It was just very like, yeah, right? Like, I can't.

Like, if you need that for him, go for it, I guess. But at the same time, I like that convention because it definitely harden back to the first movie in its storytelling. Right. We start like he was part of the movie.

Now we're going to flashback back. Now we're going to the rest of the movie. And like I kind of like that because it was like, hey, we're paying attention to the work last time. Right.

Yeah. So they do kind of fulfill the formula of original Deadpool. But I also like they didn't Austin Powers it. Where it's like, who cares about that character?

Oh, I appreciate that. No, absolutely. But I guess I'm talking about the structure of this movie. Really, really explosive intro.

You can tell money was spent. You can tell that they learned from the previous experience of Deadpool 1 where they're like, give them more Deadpool. Give them a bunch of Deadpool's again, really amp up the humor with, well, also achieving that R rating. And then it kind of, for me, I don't know, the amount of time between the beginning of the first Deadpool movie where he's on the overpass leading up to the overpass.

There's a lot more time between those two. Oh, yeah. As opposed to this time, it felt like they were more just trying to achieve the same structure than actually being like, no, no, it's an earned experience where we need to flash back to this moment. It felt like it was more manufactured.

Yeah. The like the stages or like the acts of this movie were more like, I could feel them as opposed to them being so cohesive that I didn't even notice when we in transition necessarily like this, I could feel like we're in this park for an hour in this park. Yes. And that's not bad necessarily.

It's just, I don't know. Noticable. It was very noticeable. And I think that was actually because I remember I heard a lot of stuff about how like the this movie was chopped.

Yeah, I can see that. And they fixed it up. And I think that's the editing that they managed to save the movie because it is a fun movie. I did enjoy the hell out of it.

Oh, yeah. But it does feel very put together. You know, I don't mean like, oh, it was a well structured film and therefore I shouldn't have anything to complain about. It's more that I just felt like I felt the work put into it.

Then it felt like it was an effortless experience. Yeah. Yeah. Act one felt great.

Act three felt great. But act two. It felt rushed and a little out of place. Yes.

There's a lot of things like that. Which is bizarre because act two really sets up where the movie's going. And for me, that felt the most like what? And I don't know why.

I didn't put my finger on what the issue was with that at the time. Yeah. A couple of things we did like. I really want to focus on a lot more comic book stuff in this movie.

Right. Comic book references, comic book, homages and straight up characters from the comic appearing in the book. Oh, absolutely. It's funny.

Like the big like the monster in the ice box. Yes. You just you didn't see coming necessarily? No, and I was funny because you know, I knew it was going to be a character.

Yeah. And I knew it was going to be a fan favorite character that like they either hadn't shown or hadn't done properly. Right. And I still was surprised it was.

See now I was not especially because of the man the ugly we've just done as soon as things used black on Cassidy and the monster there. And I was like, it has to be juggernaut, right? Yeah. And they nailed it.

Right. I can't believe how well executed juggernaut was. Yeah. And you know what it is?

Less is more. Here's juggernaut. What does he do? He doesn't stop and he wrecks stuff up.

Yep. Otherwise that's all you really need. Yeah. I mean a few words and those words are the things he's about to do.

Right. Now that being said, he does drop a little bit of like comic book trivia or history that I just didn't see coming. No, the reference to him being Charles Xavier's stepbrother. Right.

We don't get the crystal of sight around. No. But it's there because it's juggernaut. Yeah.

So, but we knew it was just it was a really, really great addition and a great way to say like, you know, X and three sucks, right? Like let's just not do that. Yeah. Something else.

Let's do something better. I also appreciate them just using juggernaut because it wouldn't want to be one of those things where they pulled something random or it's just like, okay, that's a great. That's interesting. I don't make a red.

Right. And that would have been interesting especially with cost as being in the movie, but it was like, no, let's pull something especially from like one of the first Deadpool comics ever. Yeah. Like let's do that.

Like let's let them know that we understand comics and we understand where a Deadpool comes from and we'll just go forward. And maybe apologize a little bit for what we did last time because there's a moment that I didn't see coming that I couldn't believe they did. Okay. And that was a moment that we're never going to see another comic book movie ever again.

Okay. And it is the moment where Juggernaut says, I'm never going to get half now and then he pulls Deadpool and he rips him in half. Yeah. It is a straight up ultimate hulking Wolverine in half moment with all the gory goodness you would expect from a moment like that in real life.

Right. But it's also Deadpool so he doesn't die and it's just incredibly horrifying but satisfying. Right. It's something that Juggernaut would do and it's something that he does do in this movie and it's something that you would take for granted in comic book and it happened in the movie and wanted to take a moment just like that happened.

Yeah. It's funny. After that, it didn't go the way I thought it was. Then it really allowed for an amazing like section of humor because I assume he was just going to kind of pull himself back together especially because they took both parts.

Right. And no. No, they just needed his pants. Yeah.

As you turn back. And by the way, this is another like non to them for like this really bizarre and you have to phenomenal attention to detail because after that happens for the rest of the movie that Deadpool is in his suit, let's do his duck take together. And I was like, that's really he's got the one. He's got the one suit.

So he just patches him up. They also don't like make it a big joke or ever running gag. It's just they don't want to see it. Like no, it's a visual gag.

You saw it. He didn't. You did. Yeah.

But I was like, that's great. I love that. Like I said, we should talk about cable. Yeah.

Let's talk about cable. I was worried about Josh. Well, I'm being cat. This cable and especially on the heels of Thanos.

Yeah. He does a great job with that version of cable. This movie cable is a really, really good visual representation of conflict cable and they really did their own version of cable and I've loved it. You know, I thought he was a decent visual.

Yeah. You know, it's funny because it's like, you have a movie like Deadpool and Deadpool's wearing like the Deadpool suit. And it's right. It's just under great.

I was missing some of the color. Yes. I agree. Yeah.

You should have been comic-able with an X on its belt and like all these different shoulder pads. I don't know if any of that much. Non-stop pouches for days. I wish, I wish it had been a little further to the comics.

I get it. He's the straight man. Like he is there simply to fulfill the role of having someone for Deadpool to just bounce things off. Like, yeah, say things to him and not have them react.

Right. I get it. And I understand that they probably wanted to then visualize that as well. So you had a surprise.

But he could have gone a little further. Yeah. The moment where there's an image of him in looking in the mirror and you see his like half metal body which you don't really get to see too often. Right.

And it looked really good. I thought they could have gone a little further with that too. Because it was a little organic. Yeah.

But it should. I wanted to look organic because it's from the techno organic body. When I say organic though, I mean like it looked like it was, yes it did look like it was. And I was like that's a little interesting visual.

Yes. Now I was missing a lot of stuff that was like comic book cable. I missed the future he came from. I wanted a dark future.

Yeah. I didn't want like a future that looks like it's probably pretty good if not for this new character we put in this movie. It was what we need to talk about in a minute. Yeah.

I don't know. I don't like, I get it. The cable needs to have a power-lelling goal. Yeah.

To Deadpool. And it needs to be a family. It can't be the future of humanity. I think that they, this was an instance in which they looked at the budget and they looked at where they, what buckets they had to put the money in.

And I think the cable future bucket. Did you? Show it. Right.

I think they felt like they needed to make you understand that he came from another future. So they just showed you the apartment. Right. And like kind of like.

A little in the background. Things going down. Yeah. It's not good.

Certainly not good. But I think that they decided to allocate money elsewhere. Especially when you have as Deadpool calls it like a big CG fight between Colossus and Juggernaut. That's where the money's going.

I think he needs to put some money over there. Yeah. But I did. You know, as a comic fan I missed the fact that if you're gonna redeem Juggernaut, maybe you could redeem Apocalypse.

Yeah. Because the whole idea of this plot was the Kid of Apocalypse story where Deadpool has to say Kid of Apocalypse. Yeah. And we missed that instead we got who we got and it was weird.

I don't know. That whole thing was a sight of contention for me. And the only reason why I say that is because Firefist. Yeah, Firefist.

Was so distractingly specific. For me, it is just that he was so larger than life. And you put him next to Deadpool who was already the largest compared to life that they're in. Yeah.

And so it just it felt like they were trying desperately to make sure that it was on that character. But I'm there to see Deadpool. Yeah. And a lot of my being distracted by this character came in that second act.

Yes. And in that, like I said, there's something up with that second act. And I'm wondering if they ended up going back and changing this and cutting something. Because it just seemed like there was a lot of character growth and emotion that he goes through in a short amount of time where it just seems like what?

You know, like it's too rapid. His goal is very weird. And it just ramps up in a very... Yeah.

And I think they just didn't quite hit the nail on the head because over time you start to understand his goal is really just acceptance. Right. And it just, it doesn't necessarily shine through all of the, you know, weird quirks that they gave him. Yes.

Yeah. You know, like it's just, you kind of lose that in a contemporary muddy. That's, yeah. And that might have been my major gripe with the character.

Right. And like, again, that, I don't think that that's the actor's fault necessarily. No. No.

And I don't know if anything. It's a huge problem with the movie. I think editing would have taken that up a little bit more. So I have to make it a little more streamlined.

Yeah. So if your character's going to back class as a fun arc and I really don't want to dwell too much on it but I really liked what they did with Colossus. Yeah. But to contrast, I really didn't like what they did with Megasonic Tange Warhead.

Well, they had to get rid of her because then I had to kick. Yeah. Which isn't quite as much. And I liked her, especially in the last one as a, like, as a foil.

As a millennial foil for Deadpool. I really enjoyed that. Yes. And she was just really lacking.

But, you know, the fact is they put her in because they knew she was a fan favorite. And they had everything for her to do. And they had so many other characters to deal with in this film, especially introducing the character. Right.

No, yeah. I agree. It was a shame to see her go. We did a Yukio out of the mix but not the Yukio from the Wolverine.

So that's confusing. And we were like, you know what, there's two dead pools, there's two juggernauts, whatever. Right. I did kind of appreciate that to some degree because they're at the beginning.

Dead pool, like, you know Logan, yeah, you go and you do this whole thing, you get the right arm, you copy me, and then you do that. I'm just gonna do what you did. And like, so there was something, I don't know if it was subtext, they're not necessarily where they're all gonna do a Yukio. Yeah, we're gonna take Yukio too.

Right. But like, I don't know what it was, I don't know if some people thought it was annoying, but I really enjoyed that running. Oh, hi Wade, hi Yukio. I loved it.

I loved it. That was perfect. Yeah, I had a great time. They didn't miss a beat with that one.

No, yeah, every time they didn't miss it. It was great. I guess we could talk about X-Force. We had to talk about X-Force.

We established it with X-Force. Right. And again, that's where for me, like, we go from the second back to the third act and then I was like, it's so back into it. Yes.

Like, so back into it. Yeah. We see a bunch of fan favorite characters, some of them in the X-Box and with them on X-Force. Oh, that was straight on the waffler.

Yeah, I completely said that coming. Right. I was like, this is great. I'm having a good time right now.

Yeah. The Shatter Star was the breakout success from that, just establishing what a douchee is and then completely... It's obliterating. ...relurating him and every other subsequent member except for one.

Except for one. Well, except for two inevitably. Except for one. So in that we, of course, get Bedlam, play by Terry Crews.

Yeah, I was sad to see him go. Me too, because I love Terry Crews. Yes. We get Shatter Star.

We have Domino. We have... The Vomit guy. Yeah, Zeitgeist.

Yes. He's a real ex man. Right. Okay.

Wait, there was a moment when we finally see the Vanisher, right? As he inevitably dies. And I was like, is that my pick? Yes, he is.

Yes, it was. We have Peter. Yeah. And Goodl here, who was just a fan favorite from the moment he appeared in the trailer.

Yes. I knew he was going to be a great guy success. Yeah. He was a favorite.

Yeah. I mean, he had very few lines. Of course, there are very few lines except for Domino. And I think we should just...

He just told Domino. He was just talking about Domino. This is another instance of the character, who was established as one. Like ethnicity, she changed up.

I guess. I guess. I just liked this table. Right, but I thought that Zazee or Zazee I just straight up called them by the most ridiculous version of Miss Beast Yes, Miss Beast they're a really good job with it.

I love the attitude I love the banter between the two of them She's not quite the straight person I'm a great guy that cable is but she's not quite as ridiculous as Deadpool like she kind of has this like look I got powers. She's a little more grounded in reality. She accepts her power She also accepts her responsibilities kind of with those powers to some degree Yeah, but she also isn't taking any of what Deadpool has to say without some sort of retort that whole conversation about having luck base powers And what about their real? Yeah, I loved it.

The first of all really great community time between both Ronald and Miss Beast Honestly, I thought they did such a good job and I loved every time that they had interaction with one another Yeah, I like their interaction better in the trailer than I did in the movie. I went on a little too long Oh, I liked it. I sometimes I don't mind when they just kind of just keep it going with the chut-a-towel It, yeah, I'm kind of okay with that. You know really great visuals.

Yes I was very sad that I'm like with that Yes, but I love like I love that kind of Device like where like someone's driving something or like saying what the problems are something as it's either like occurring Yes, and thus like you know proving them incorrect I really enjoyed that of course I'm talking about when like she parachutes in and like she's gonna stop the convoy Yes, and like he's just like what place for a time is automatic It's like yeah, he's running commentary is how she's not gonna be able to do anything as she's totally handling every Yeah, exactly. I just really great and really allowed for a lot of phenomenal like action sequences Yes, and like it's funny cuz like in my head I'm like well, I know she's gonna win and yet they still create attention Not really because of the death of everyone else next for so I was like they might just kill Domino for a laugh And I was really worried about I see now I was pretty sure they wouldn't because of the fact that I felt like they really wanted to prove way to wrong right like No, wait, she's cool Hard to make this character work. Yeah, and she did but for me like it just came down to like this, you know crazy final destination So I was she gonna make this work. Oh, yeah, no, it's nice to see our first destination We're saying elaborate way someone doesn't die or how our enemies We get to like the is an orphanage or like the school.

Yeah, it's like an inverted XA your school Yeah, just the bad school. Yeah, but when we're there particularly Oh, yeah, I mean they're jerks so I don't know Overall it was just a straight up like it was fun. It was not too It dragged into places, but you feel like a long movie. No, no, it didn't It's funny this movie had a lot more in terms of serious moments.

Yes, like a lot more so I think they felt like they earned them with a good favor from the first movie They're like we can get away with having like real acting from Ryan Reynolds and Marnavac or yeah We can have a real scenes with like with cable where he's actually a moto. Yeah, and I gotta give him credit Like I know Ryan was way into being Deadpool But I they did a really nice job of finding a legitimate way to show his face Yes in this film even though we're beyond the point where we should be seeing it Yes, but like it worked finally when you talk about the post credits or the credit sequence Which might have been my favorite moment from the movie and it was they you know cable sacrifices ability to go back in time See Hang around the way quick aside fire fist blows up Deadpool and then in versus costume to make it look like his exports costume Yes, super cool Night way gets a uquio and negative time to get a warhead to negative sonic teenage warhead to fix the time slider Yes, and so he uses it immediately to benefit himself I was just opening for a second. I was like, oh, he's gonna actually give it's table. Why would I think that?

Well, maybe I give it to a woman who's done with it. I really think that Wade Wilson would be like yeah Well, it's funny because even when he gets it I'm like, oh, what's he gonna like what are we gonna do? What's the what's gonna be the joke how long is it gonna be any immediate first thing that stays Vanessa and the producers are saying it's canon so no full movies undone or at least the part where she dies cool fine, okay? I mean, that's great.

Yeah, I'm okay with that. But that was great and then of course when he goes back and Rescues the Wolverine franchise from so yes, I also enjoyed that out of exports. You only say Peter yeah What a bedlam do no, yeah, you're not returning to you know Terry Cruz would love to be in these movies I'm sure you could save bedlam. I got letting Shatterstar go.

Oh, that's just kind of weird. So I get it You killed Peter, but like come on yeah, they go say they save But then he saves the X-Men or just Wolverine yeah kind of well he saves himself from yeah Yeah, and that is that was spectacular. I know we know for a fact is what's the things I come back no Shatterstar no Oh, bedlam. No, I'm sure no zeitgeist.

Yeah, yeah, no sorry TJ. You know what I'm not Forget it anyway, so there you go everybody. Thanks so much for watching and checking out our review of Deadpool 2 And what is not the comment section? I'm low what you think it did pull to before to continue the chat down there We'll see you guys next time.

Don't do it. So rock on sale. Thanks watching
