Emancipation Day Lecture

It's that time a year again when (some) people get thinking about Emancipation Day on August 1. This a lecture that I wrote and presented for the Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit at the City of Toronto in 2019. Over the years I've used this as a template in different writings or talks, but have deliberately omitted the key argument, which is my lengthy engagement with 'violence.' Give it a listen.
