Emma Cline and Mattis Øybø

In this episode, you can hear the American writer Emma Cline talking with the Norwegian writer and editor Mattis Øybø. The conversation took place on April 26th, 2017.   Emma Clines acclaimed debut novel The Girls struck a nerve in 2016 when it was published in the US. It has been praised by Richard Ford, Jennifer Egan and Lena Dunham – and embraced by readers and critics world wide. The novel takes us back to California 1969, to a young girl’s quite ordinary and dull life in a small place, and describes in a beautiful language how her life suddenly develops into something totally different, after she meets the girls. Inspired by the Charles Manson murders, Clines novel asks what forces can make regular teen girls into brutal murderers. Cline circles in on this question from the perspective of the girls themselves.
