In this week’s episode I speak to Emma Gardner, Co Founder: Born Equal Consults | With Not For | NYM Mag.

Join the conversation to hear us chat about how we better understand and address exclusion and discrimination, and how we can approach it from both a creative and a human aspect.

Emma also shares her thoughts about the power of storytelling and why representation matters in the journey to create a more inclusive workplace.

Key takeaways include:

  • The importance of practising a questioning mindset
  • Why lived experience is as important as qualifications in being able to create impact
  • The prevalence of hidden disabilities that people may not be disclosing
  • Why good intentions don’t always result in good impact
  • The value of building a good network and connections

Emma is an entrepreneur, parent & carer of her Disabled daughter, who has been the catalyst for her work in recent years.

She’s worked in the creative industries for 20+ years collaborating with charities, agencies & clients on the importance of inclusion, & how to approach it within businesses.

She is now co-founder of Born Equal Consults, a human-centric Equity & Inclusion Consultancy that leads with lived experience, as well as co-founder of With Not For, a talent agency representing Disabled creatives.

Last year she also co-founded NYM magazine, working with Disabled people & their allies to set new benchmarks for representation within media & society.

It will examine the impact on those who use that courage to put themselves out there in a relentless news cycle where cancel culture dictates and where the online space can be toxic and pervasive.   What’s the downside? What’s the payback? What’s the outcome they want?  Are they capable of getting the results?  These people are leaders but they may not be in charge of anyone. They’re leading people with their conviction, courage and ‘cojones’ to make a better world. Who are these people? Choosing Leadership with Sumit Gupta Sumit Gupta As a leader, you are always making choices. Even when you think you have no choice. And if you are unable to make a decision, you are choosing to stay in a state of indecision. The only question is - are your choices taking you where you want to go?I am Sumit Gupta, and this is "Choosing Leadership" - a podcast for high performers with big dreams - who know deep inside that there is more. This is a podcast for people who know they are more powerful than the level they are currently playing.I have spent a long time feeling powerless, and that is why I see where you are powerful even when you cannot. I dare to say what most people would not. I dare to speak to the "tremendous power" which you already have rather than what you believe are your strengths and limitations. This podcast is called "choosing leadership" - because that is what leadership is - a choice. The choice to step into the unknown. The choice to see fear as a friend.
