Emotional : Dealing with Feeling // Anger

from Pacific Church · host Pacific Coast Church

Numbers 20:9-12 NLT 9 So Moses did as he was told. He took the staff from the place where it was kept before the Lord. 10 Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and gather at the rock. “Listen, you rebels!” he shouted. “Must we bring you water from this rock?” 11 Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So the entire community and their livestock drank their fill. 12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!” 3 Myths Related to Anger and How We Can Offset Them in Our Life 1. Anger is Automatic “You Can’t Control It” “Never in the history of calming down has anyone ever calmed down by being told to calm down.” - (Anonymous) Matthew 5:22 (NIV) 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. 2. Anger is Always Bad “Righteous anger is simply energy channeled to defending something good from something bad.” Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV) 26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 3. Anger Helps Me Get My Way Questions: 1. Have you ever experienced a time or maybe even an entire season in your life where you believed that you couldn’t control your anger? What were the factors? How did you navigate those experiences? 2. Not all anger is bad. Anger, if channeled correctly, can be used to bring about positive change. When you hear this idea, what thoughts or life experiences resonate with you? 3. If anger is an issue in your life, what are the steps you are currently taking to help manage it?
