Emotional Sobriety

from The Sober Fix Podcast · host Drew M.

My emotional maturity and growth started to slow down when I started drinking and getting high. I spent years using alcohol and drugs to cope with my emotions. As I got sober, those emotions and feelings started to flood in and it was difficult to cope. For me, recovery has been more than just physically getting sober. It’s been all about learning to cope with my emotions and not turning to a substance to help with that. Emotional sobriety for me is the ability to cope with life no matter what emotions I am experiencing at the time. I try to look for signs that my emotional sobriety is in a good place and make adjustments to my life wherever possible. The great thing about recovery is it is always evolving and there is always more to learn. Many of us find solace in working with others and getting out of our own head.
