Hi and welcome to la vie attache change your thoughts change your life I'm Peggy McKnight and I'm continuing on from yesterday's episode about employment observations Now I just want to say that yesterday it might have sounded like or perhaps come across as a bit of a rant on my part And to some extent, yes, I suppose it was but it's also out of sheer frustration And just bewilderment as to how the employment process works over here in this country put some context behind all of this I've been away from the United States for 30 years I've been living in the UK. I've also lived in Canada and Hong Kong. So I've lived on three different continents So I should have a pretty good handle on how the employment process works Especially moving around so often because of my husband being in the British Army that has given me the opportunity to go through a number of Interviews and the employment process itself So I consider myself to be pretty much a specialist in this area So for me to advise my husband and do everything that I can within my power to make sure that he is you know Putting his best foot forward in interviews is really all we can do now It is just literally left up to fate chance luck. Who knows but it really does give me a strong impression when you see our ultimate federal government and how they are behaving and responding that you cannot help but feel that things are trickling down into The state level and local level I mean one of the things that I am just floored by is how the Senate leader would ever consider putting a law in place that protects the employer should someone catch a coronavirus for example that if something happens to that member of Staff that the employer is protected and the employee won't come after them I find that just utterly fascinating and also say what I just really do not get that whatsoever how it really gives me the strong impression that employment laws are put in place to protect the employer and You know to be fair that is also the case in the UK as well And what I'm discovering is it really doesn't matter where you live in this world on this planet It really is all about figuring out how to play the game because that's ultimately what it is at the end of the day Is it just a big game now whether it's checkers or chess is debatable depending on the organization and how cunning and crafty and nefarious they may be but ultimately it is just a game at the end of the Day and all people want you know basic human needs are I want a job or a career in order to bring money in and pay for my bills Once the bills are paid and you have some excess cash Result fantastic.

You can actually start to feel like you're living your life rather than just going through the motion day in and day out to Earn a crust if you like and so with regards to employment. Those are my other tapes on how things work With regards to simple things like holidays Ultimately, I think the United States is certainly a lot harsher when it comes to time off and you're lucky if you get one Maybe two weeks vacation or holiday a year and that's in addition to the designated holidays that are given by law I again I have a bit of a question mark there because again It depends on the nature of the job and the employer and how they build that into the company package So yeah, some interesting observations and they will continue most definitely from my end because I find this whole journey that we're on of Relocating and settling back in the United States just a fascinating journey to be on We have been here now nearly six months and we are still trying to figure out where we're going to live and what type of jobs stroke careers We are going to be carving out for ourselves. So it's still relatively early days How do you maintain that momentum when you know this really could get you down and to some extent, you know It is a human nature to feel really quite down about you know going through the motion of several job interviews and nobody saying Yes, we want you, you know, it really does chip away at somebody's self-esteem confidence And just overall well-being but first and foremost I would say find some hobbies and some other things to give you a healthy distraction So whether that be, you know, make sure that you've got some exercise built into your day or like I said a hobby You know that will really give you that creative outlet to just let off some steam and just forget about the whole process of finding a job And where that job will come will help tremendously I know that when we relocated back to the UK after living in Canada a couple of years It took me eight months to find work and that really had a Knock-on effect with my confidence because that had never happened to me before so there we are my friends That's for the thoughts for today until tomorrow. Bye for now
