What does the Holy Spirit do in our lives? In this Pentecost sermon, we look at John 20, Acts 2, and 1 Corinthians 12 to see how the Holy Spirit fills the people of God for the work of the kingdom. Many of us know what it feels like to be unequipped for what life requires of us—and following Jesus can feel that way too. We are called to love, forgive, serve, proclaim the gospel, and live as the people of God, but we cannot do that work in our own strength. The good news of Pentecost is that Jesus does not leave his people alone. He gives the Holy Spirit to empower us to continue his work, proclaim the good news, and live together as one body with many gifts. The Spirit fills us not just for private faith, but for the shared work of God’s kingdom in the world.
