Empowerment Zone - A TBI Survivors Convention - Les Paul

from Z Z Archive 2014 · host Brain Injury Radio

I am a long time survivor and work for a center for Independent Living. If I practice what I teach and that we have a need for services, community, and a life worth living after TBI and related disabilities then I say now is the time to come together more than ever!!! The Empowerment Zone - A Brain Injury Survivors Convention!!! I have a vision and a real life dream. I see a mission and a need for a brain injury survivors convention on a Nationa level ran by survivors, led by survivors, operated by survivors, and profited by survivors! Throughout history gone through great  suffrering and they were movements that changed the world for survivors of opression not professionals, not attorneys, not medical professionals or the medical model. I mean a meat and potatoes Convention lead and organized by survivors that will bring us all together and empower Brain Injury Survivors to lead the way and have our own Convention. I wear the scars but do I have a voice. Do we have a voice? Yes but only if we use it! Too many lives have been lost, and too much profit has been gained in our name as we sit on the sidelines watching the world go round and round. I say no more to any of that our time is now. We must break the chains that bind us find like-minded people willing to support us and bridge the gap that divides us. So let’s have a very serious discussion tonight on the empowerment zone about this. Why is it so many people talking all about us, but without inviting us to the table? I say a survivor led ran and operated to convention is the answer. We have got to reclaim our dignity and pride as human beings living with traumatic brain injury without others profiting off of us. While millions live in desperate poverty with traumatic brain injury!
