Encanto

It’s the last round of our annual Dealer’s Choice picks where we take a (much needed?) break from straight to video Disney sequels to watch real movies. This time around we watched the very popular, very earwormy, and very copyrighted movie, Encanto. Listen as an audibly frustrated Jimmy stans for Lin Manuel Miranda and musicals in general while Audrey and Dan remain fairly unimpressed for an amount of time that will not be disclosed here so as to build suspense. Cliffhanger! Speaking of cliffhangers, we also get to find out this show’s unexpected connection to the Dark Lord himself: the very thumblike Bob Chapek. Will Jimmy’s love of the musical genre break through the icy coldness of the hearts of his cohosts? Can we create a rivalry with a content creator with more clout than us? Will Disney sue us for this episode even though we tried very hard to not include any of the music or other content from this movie? This episode features music from Columbian artists to illustrate some of the different musical styles which inspired the songs of Encanto. La Combinación Vallenata, Manigua Rock Mestizo, Rakim & Ken-y, Afro Cuban All Stars, and the mayor of Barranquilla’s YouTube channel, please don’t sue us either. Learn more about your ad choices.
