Encountering the Stations of the Cross with Mary (The Inner Life with Patrick Conley)

from The Best of the Week · host Relevant Radio

Patrick Conley and Fr. Kris Stubna bring you a beautiful commentary on the Stations of the Cross. 💔👣.     🙏 The Roots: Where Did the Stations Come From?   Fr. Kris Stubna takes us way back to the early Church:    Pilgrims in the 4th century were already retracing Jesus’ steps in Jerusalem after Constantine legalized Christianity.   Mary herself is believed to have revisited the places of Jesus’ Passion. Imagine that. Our Blessed Mother quietly, faithfully walking those paths of suffering again.   This was a pilgrimage... a way to embody what Jesus went through, to let His Passion move from head knowledge into heart transformation.   The Franciscans brought it to life in Europe when travel to the Holy Land wasn’t an option anymore. They made it real, everywhere, so the Church could keep walking with Jesus.     It's Not Just a Devotion... It’s an Encounter   Like Jesus said: “Follow me.”   We follow with our feet, with our hearts, and with our tears.   Meditation opens us up to not just thinking about the Passion... but letting the Holy Spirit speak into our own stories.   -"Where is God directing me right now through this?"   -📖 "What does Jesus’ fall say about my own?"     💙 Mary’s Way of the Cross    One caller, Frank from NJ, shared about doing Mary’s Way of the Cross with his parish… and how even the guys were crying.   Mary doesn’t just watch... she walks.    “When I fall, Mary comes to me.”— Thomas, the producer, reflecting on how his favorite station is Jesus meeting Mary. Because after he sins, she meets him.     💭 So Why Do the Stations Still Matter Today?   They are:   -A call to walk with Jesus    -A way to see your own life in His Passion   -A reminder that you don’t suffer alone: Mary, Simon, Veronica... they’re still showing up     Final Takeaway:    The Stations of the Cross are a spiritual rescue mission. Every fall, every wound, every act of love along the way speaks into your life today.   Whether you're walking around your parish on a Lenten Friday, sitting in your living room with a booklet, or crying in your car listening to Mary’s reflections... you are not alone. Jesus walked that road for you, and He invites you to walk it with Him.   👣🔥 “If you want to be my disciple, take up your cross and follow me.” 💜 Let’s walk with Him... again and again.     The best way to listen to the Best of the Week is on our #1 Free Catholic App. It’s free and always will be!
