Encounters With Jesus: The Children and the Rich Young Ruler with Dr. Jeff Warren

This message from Mark 10:13–31 explores two contrasting encounters with Jesus that reveal what it means to enter the kingdom of God. While children came to Jesus with nothing to offer but trust and dependence, the rich young ruler approached with an impressive record of morality and achievement.Together, these stories challenge our instinct to measure worthiness by accomplishments, status, or good behavior. Jesus shows that the kingdom cannot be earned through our own righteousness. Instead, it is received with the humility and dependence of a child. The rich young ruler’s response also reveals how the things we value most can become barriers to fully surrendering our lives to Christ.This message challenges us to consider what we may still be holding onto. We are reminded that following Jesus is not about proving ourselves worthy or doing more to earn God's favor, but trusting his grace, releasing whatever stands between us and him, and following him with wholehearted surrender.
