Encourage Yourself in the LORD - 4-18-21

Texts today are 1Sam 30.1-11, 18-19 and Matt 26.36-42 from the thought, "Encourage Yourself in the LORD!" Even modern pillars of faith such as Rev. Dr. MLK, Jr., Billy Graham, and Mother Teresa experienced discouragement. In this fallen world we will experience the ups and downs of life.Even David had to deal with his discouragement. He was an anointed popular warrior. Friends admired him while enemies feared him. King Saul pursued him because David was too much for him. David had to leave to survive. He went to the enemy's land. While there, David connects with Achish, a Philistine leader. He wins this leader’s trust. But the other leaders were still fearful of David and doubted his allegiance. They turned his men and him away. As they went back to Ziklag, they found their town was burned down, their families taken, and their possessions stolen. All of them were discouraged!If we are going to encourage ourselves in the Lord.. 1. We must realize that trouble will come. (vv 1-5) 2. We must allow our faith to overrule our feelings. (vv 6-8) 3. We must obey God and leave ALL the consequences to Him. (vv 9-10, 18-19)ASK the HOLY SPIRIT to REMIND YOU of the WORD of GOD to ENCOURAGE YOUR HEART! AMEN!
