End The Drug War, with Special Guest, Elizabeth Nolan Brown

from Commonwealth Classical Liberal Podcast · host Classical Liberal Party of Virginia

Episode 16: End The Drug War. Chris, Brian and Andy welcome special guest, Elizabeth Nolan Brown, to discuss drug policy reform in Virginia, emphasizing the need to end the drug war and promoting the Classical Liberal Party of Virginia platform and recommendations including: A full and unconditional legalization of the personal use and commercial sales of Marijuana and related products, with no special or additional burden of taxation or regulation. Decriminalization on a state level for all other “hard drugs”, and an official policy of non-cooperation with Federal Drug Enforcement operations. Pardons and clemency for state prisoners serving time for non-violent drug-related crimes, and official sealing/expungement of records of any drug-related convictions.  They also encouraged more thoughtful approaches to harm reductions and highlighted the negative effects and unintended consequences of the drug war, including the explosion of incarceration, police militarization, seizure and forfeiture laws, and other numerous ill effects – all without curbing the use of drugs and the social ills of addiction and overdose rates.   Relevant links from this episode include: Reason Magazine’s Sex & Tech.
