Enda Brady: UK correspondent on the Vatican revealing Pope Francis is in 'critical condition'

The Vatican says Pope Francis is in a critical condition after suffering a long asthmatic respiratory crisis. The 88-year-old is being treated in hospital for double pneumonia and chronic bronchitis.  The Vatican has confirmed he is more unwell than he was yesterday - and has undergone a blood transfusion because of a low platelet count.  UK correspondent Enda Brady says the Vatican is still concerned about Francis' condition.  "The Vatican says the Holy Father continues to be alert and spent the day in an armchair, although in more pain than yesterday.
