Energy suppliers are posting massive profits yet families are the ones paying the price.That's the view of Sligo People Before Profit Councillor, Gino O'Boyle, who was reacting to suppliers latest price changes.Electric Ireland is set to reduce gas unit prices by 4% in November equating to an average household saving of €57.56 annually.The ESB owned company will not change it's electricty prices for 1.1 million customers heading into the winter months.The news follows Energia announcing an increase of it's electricity price by up to 12.1% from the 9th of October which will add around €200 to customers bills in the North West.Last month Flogas increased it's prices by an average of 7%.Increased network charges or grid fees are being cited as the reason for the rises according to suppliers.The Commission for Regulation of Utilities said the number of customers in arrears "could spike" without Government energy credits.Paschal Donohue, The Minister for Finance, has previously stated energy credits cannot become the norm and will not be part of budget 2026.Speaking to OceanFM News Councillor Gino O'Boyle says families across the region are under enormous pressure.
