Entering Holy Week - Fr. Gregory - April 5, 2026
from Holy Trinity + Holy Cross - Sermons · host Holy Trinity + Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral
As we enter into Holy Week on this Palm Sunday, Fr. Gregory reminds us that the Orthodox faith isn’t something we simply study, but it’s something we enter. Holy Week is not a reenactment of the past, but an entrance into liturgical time. The church gives us not only something to hear, but to live and experience service by service. Fr. Gregory explains the order of Holy Week, which we follow as they unfolded two thousand years ago, because we are entering into a reality that has its own existence in God.Continuing on, Fr. Gregory explains that, as we transition from the 40 days of Lent into Holy Week, we are transitioning from ascetical preparation to participation. He then turns to today’s Gospel reading, which presents us with two scenes that both prepare us to understand Holy Week and enter it rightly. Finally, Fr. Gregory encourages us to come as often as we can to the Holy Week services, not remaining at a distance, but entering in.
