Entrevista a Gabriel Hernández Walta

Hace ya bastantes meses se publicó por EH Editores el segundo volumen dedicado a Ilustradores Andaluces (Cómic y animación). Dentro de ese elenco de artistas, entre los que se encuentran genios de la talla de Pacheco, el igualmente portentoso compañero Oscar Jiménez, o el siempre sorprendente MAZ!, estaba un , hasta el momento desconocido para mi, Gabriel Hernández Walta. La sorpresa fué mayúscula pues vi en su estilo reminiscencias de autores muy clásicos del cómic a los que ambos admiramos, y porque vi en su diseño de página y en su sinceridad narrativa una potencia absolutamente impactante. El caso es que pensé que quería conocer a aquella persona que había detrás de todo ese despliegue de maestría (porque Gabriel es indiscutiblemente un maestro del dibujo) y conocer un poco más de primera mano cuáles son sus inquietudes y pensamientos entorno al mundo del cómic, la historieta, la ilustración, el dibujo en general. Como no tenía otro medio de contacto, le dejé una nota en su blog para que me contactase. Tras algunos meses y avatares, pudimos tomarnos un café y debo admitir que conectamos inmediatamente. También ocurre que con Gabriel es muy sencillo tratar. Tras el grandísimo dibujante esta una aún mejor persona. Un tipo inteligente y afable. Que puede sorprender en un momento dado por la crudeza con que trata las terroríficas historias que le prepara El Torres. Pero que sin lugar a dudas, y lo mejor de todo, nos va a seguir dando gigantescas alegrías en lo que a su obra se refiere. Durante ese primer café concertamos el día para hacer la entrevista que a continuación vais a poder disfrutar. Un diálogo extenso e interesante, en el que tiene, además, la generosidad de descubrirnos un poco más de su proceso creativo. Una pieza única que no debe dejar pasar todo aquel al que le interese este apasionante mundo del dibujo y del cómic. Un regalo que espero que, además pronto, se pueda completar con las obras que va a realizar para esta web. Os he querido narrar esta presentación un poco a modo de romance, pero es que eso es lo que produce el dibujo de Hernández Walta en el que tiene la fortuna de descubrirlo, un flechazo emocional instantáneo. Within this group of artists, among geniuses like Pacheco, the equally portentous fellow Oscar Jimenez, or the always surprising MAZ!, there was, a complete unknown to me, Gabriel Hernandez Walta. The surprise was even greater when I saw that in his style there were reminds of classic comic book authors we both admire, and because I saw on his page layout and his narrative sincerity an absolute stunning power. Anyway, I thought I wanted to meet the person who was behind all this display of mastery (because Gabriel is truly a master of drawing) and learn a little bit more directly of what his concerns and thoughts are around the world of comics, cartoon, illustration, and drawing in general. Having no other way of contact, I left a note on his blog so we could get in touch. After some months and issues, we could have a coffee and I must admit that we connect immediately. It also happens that Gabriel is very easy to treat. After this great artist there is an even better person. A smart and friendly dude. This fact may surprise you in a given moment due to the harshness with which he treats the horrific stories he builds with El Torres. But undoubtedly, and best of all, we will continue enjoying with his work. During that first coffee we arranged the day to do the interview you are going to see next. An extensive and interesting dialogue, in which he also has the generosity of discovering to us a little more of his creative process. A unique piece of art that anyone who is interested this exciting world of drawing and comics should not miss at all. A gift that I hope soon will be completed with the comics he is going to draw for this website. I've wanted to tell you this presentation as a little romance, but that's what Hernandez Walta´s drawings makes in those who have the fortunate to discover them, an instant emotional crush.
