Ep. 05 - How to Stand Out in Auditions & On Set: Interview with Director, Per Holmes

I recently had the chance to interview director and cinematographer, Per Holmes, from  @HollywoodCameraWork . If you're at all familiar with his channel then you know just how jam packed with value this interview is. Per created a 17 volume video masterclass for directors called, "Directing Actors", but I got so much value out of it myself, I just had to talk to him. He is truly an "actors' director" and knows exactly how to communicate to get what he needs but more importantly for us, he had several mind-blowing tips on how to really make yourself stand out at an audition or on set. His goal with the course was to create a comprehensive guide that would work for everyone, without preconceived trademark acting techniques. Per believes that even if an actor stands up and just reads the lines without putting anything into them, a character materializes because the logic of the story is creating that character. The casting process and the director's role during the pre-production and production of the video series were also hot topics during our conversation. Per's biggest takeaway is that actors should take risks during auditions and do their oddball versions of the character. Directors are never just casting for one movie, and actors should not be afraid to show their opinions about the character. We also discussed result-oriented directing and how it can be helpful to actors if done correctly. My favorite quote from our interview?
