Ep #056 Their Finest, with Sara Mae and Ruby from The Sugar Baby Confessionals

from Flixwatcher: A Netflix Film Review Podcast · host Stripped Media

Episode 56 sees The Sugar Baby Confessionals Sara Mae and Ruby join Flixwatcher to review Their Finest, the choice of Sara Mae. Their Finest (and occasionally Their Finest Hour) is a 2016 film from Lone Scherfig (One Day, An Education) starring the wonderfully on form Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy. Based on the 2009 novel ‘Their Finest Hour and a Half’ it tells the story of the making a moral boosting Ministry of Information film about Dunkirk during The Blitz. You wait until 2016 for a film about Dunkirk and then you get three at once, except only one of them really pays any attention to the role women played during the war. Despite feeling at times very much like a made for TV film and suffering from some heavy-handed moments in the plot, Their Finest is an inoffensive, very charming and well-acted film looking at the (often) hidden roles women played during the war. Scores [supsystic-tables id='58'] Unsurprisingly Their Finest scores high on the small screen score but low on repeat viewing, overall (despite Sara Mae’s enthusiasm and Kobi’s post Easter chocolate coma!) scores a fair 3.4.
