The adoption process is a lifelong process, it doesn’t end the day a child is adopted by a family. This is an important point that is all too often missed. Especially in unique cases where a child is placed into split custody with their biological family and interracial and LGBTQ headed family. Our guest on today’s episode lived this reality, and found many of the struggles he went through were not understood or acknowledged. Tony Hynes, author of The Son With Two Moms, and training specialist at The Center for Adoption Support and Education, also known as C.A.S.E, joins us to share his story of growing up with two white moms as a Black child, while being in split custody with his biological family. Tony’s mission is to spread awareness around adoption to change people’s perceptions regarding adoption, and to shed light on the unique unseen issues that arise throughout an adoptee’s lifespan. Issues such as interracial adoption situations, as well as being adopted by LGBTQ parents and split adoption with biological families.
