EP 07 Santa Marta: From the serene to the serious

In this edition, Brendan talks with Irishman Patrick Fleming, owner of Aluna – Casa y Café, a popular hostel in Santa Marta. In the early 2000s, before opening his hostel, Patrick bought land in the secluded foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta with a view to developing it into a retreat. Over the next few years he juggled his time between the hostel in the city and working on his farm-cum-rural retreat. Then, last year, just when he had the farm developed to the stage of being a sustainable venture, it was badly damaged in an arson attack by paramilitaries.
